  • Fenomeno!

  • Yeah faithnoman Colin Moulding is one of the tastiest players from one of the all time greatest bands !

  • Seems to get better with age, cooler than cool ;-)

  • I love the Back Door album....love it!

  • if i end ever up half as good as this guy, i'll die happy

  • Absolute quality! Miles was blown away when he heard Back Door. Colin is still on it. I was lucky enough to see them play live a around Teeside in the 70's and the Lion was the 1st place.

  • I love his playing

  • STUNNING!!!! HE DESERVES ALL ACCOLADES AND HONORS!! LES CLAYPOOL: YOU KNOW YOU OWE COLIN!!!!

  • somewhere i've still got an old cassette-tape, with a concert from them when they played late 70's in bremen, germany. time to look for it, amazing drummer, whawha-sax and colin's highspeed chord-picking (while singing at same time!).

    THX very much for posting!

  • everyone has their own style of playing. i personally use a pick because it makes a clearer harsher sound, which i prefer. that song wouldn't work without a pick, cause he's playing chords.

  • best bass player of all time!

  • Great piece of Art !

  • Played with him last year, he's just so cool...

  • just like Sunday Lunchtimes at the Peterborough Key Bar in the 70's!!!

  • he plays with pick ??

  • No just fingers...

They supprted Return to Forever at Ronnie Scotts in the 1970's and left Chick Corea and the band open mouthed.

If you haven't already heard it check out their LP's Back Door and Another Fine Mess... the stuff will knock you Dick stiff.. it's THAT GOOD.

    RIP Ron Aspery

  • At first with his thumb, then - YES - he' s got a pick.......Colin himself says, it depends on the sound he wants for a tune.....

  • gabwooten,

He mixes thumb, fingering and pick. He should be the one and only bass player ever allowed to use a pick.

  • @wysiwyg248 I'd rather hear more pick playing than all the Seinfeld sounding bass solos on any given Saturday at Guitar Center

  • @faithnoman I am glad you favorited one of Colin's videos. I am not sure what you mean about the Guitar Center comment, but I also recommend you checking out Colin Moulding from XTC.

  • At the Antequera blues festival with maggie bell & the british quintet.....awesome !

  • Saw him tonight with spencer davis! Kicked ass!

  • absolute legend!

  • the song called:the san francisco bay blues! and i love it!!!

  • Is this bass playing....or guitar playing?

  • whatever it is it's GREAT!!!

  • looks & sounds like a bass to me, just as it did when i first heard the maestro back in '72!

  • both-its a BASS GUITAR

  • QUE ESTILO MAS GUAPO!!!!

  • Thanks so much for posting this - the man is a unique and much neglected treasure

  • Great to see Bomber Hodgkinson doing what he does best. The man is a gifted muso, a real jazz pro. It broke my heart to see him reduced to playing in Whitesnake in the early 80s. I know he didn't play with them for long but it was WRONG. To see Bomber with a perm, a moustache, tight girl jeans and leather jacket. It was DEMEANING. I actually left one gig when he did his solo. The music was SHIT. The band were POSERS. It was SHAMEFUL

  • Saw him last night backing Chris Rea..never seen a bass played like that!!

  • Excellent piece nigbou! More Back Door clips to follow from Cultural Foundation as precursor to fully fledged DVD release - an impressionist homage to the work of Colin Hodgkinson and the late greats: Ron Aspery and Tony Hicks.

  • Bring on that DVD. Tell Colin Jan Dekker (those Hole in the Wall Stamford gigs) says hello!

  • i remember those gigs my good m8 craig stallwood was playing keys for him at that time.

he can still be seen doing the odd stint around peterborough with mr loud watson (loyd)

  • Craig and Lloyd - now that's an interesting idea. In fact Lloyd and keys full stop is a bit unlikely. You don't know about Jem Watson as well do you?

  • And what ever happened to the launch DVD at the Lion?

    With Ron,Tony and Colin...

    It was recorded.

I'd give my kneecaps for that.

  • Stunning. Incomparable. Many thanks for posting, its so rare to find ANY clips or cd's of Colin. However, if you like this, then do get hold of a copy of The Bottom Line. Where can we get more of the gig?

  • This was a great night; someone filmed the entire performance - any clues what might have happened to the rest of the film?

  • awesome!!
