Compared to watching Formula One they may seem slow, but make no mistake, these cars are fast. I'm guessing you are a Ford fan? These Minis would spank most any mustang around a road course.
many people automatically assume i am a mustang fan for some reason. It seems like everybody and their brother has one and to most "gearheads" it's the only car they know anything about. Anyway, it's not the only car that had a 427 engine in it. I love the Shelby Cobra and no mini would ever beat that unless it was a figure 8 race lol.
Absolutely right, lame comment on my part... But my position on the speed of the Minis stands. They are incredibly fast in their element. Watch some old british touring car races. Minis killed many a larger "faster" car around the track. These Miglia racers are highly developed race cars that are extremely light, extremely stiff, and have a VERY respectable power to weight ratio. On a tight roadcourse they may very well keep up with a Cobra. Of course, they would be KILLED on the straits.
it'd be a pretty interesting race if a Cobra and a Mini faced off at Knockhill. And i guess i'm gonna have to believe u about the speed b/c apparently 3 people didn't like my first comment lol
Im no expert on Cobras, but Wikipedia says a 427 Cobra weighs 2300 pounds (damn that's light!) and makes about 425 HP. that's 5.4 pounds per HP. A race mini can make about 180 HP and they can weigh about 1400 LB. That works out to 7.8 Lb/HP. Both are astonishingly high power to weight ratios. These Minis will KILL a Cobra on handling with the modern sticky tires, and suspensions... I too would like to see these cars face some other competition... I have no doubt they would surprise folks.
425 hp is for the street legal cobra. Race tuned put out more around 475-500 hp. Only problem w/ all that power and low weight was they had problems keepin it on the track. It's oversteer was tremendous. So even back in the '60s w/ tire technology not as advanced as today the Mini would beat it on handling. But that's the beauty of road racing, two different strategies. Muscle to accelerate out of the corners and higher top end vs. go-karts that catch back up in the corners
@cobrafan427 sorry mate but a 1293 turbo with a KAD twin cam 16 v head stage 5 internals etc, around 220 240 hp, round a circuit atleast would spank it sorry
these look really slow, did u even break 100 mph? btw i know u guys run kph so either figure will do

going almost 120MPH, no the UK uses MPH not KPH....many a mustang and falcon has seen the backside of a racing Mini....

Has nothing to do with speed bro, look how close the racing is behind him. That's what it is all about!

@rocketpoweredkeith Like the cut of your jib. Richard Longman springs to mind, won what evolved into the BTCC in a 1275GT if I recall
