Im 18. I first learned how to drive a stick shift. I was about 13 yrs old and I got the hang of it easy and didnt struggle with it. Now I have a BMW 320d e46 (Stick Shift) and I love driving it! way more fun than an automatic!
Also turning 16 soon. I want to drive stick for the gas mileage, power, cheaper cars, and fun, but the problem is I cannot see myself getting used to it.
@nerdboy919503 Dude! I'm telling you there is nothing more fun than driving a stick. I'm 17.. Been driving for two years. Plus, the ladies love a dude who can drive a stick well!
I watched this video a couple times then I went to a car that had a stick shift an drove it and I knew how to drive it. This clip is recommended if you are new to watch it couple of times.
Wow Good video! I learned in the amount the video just ended then i went to pratice and i was shifting as if i have already done it! Wow best Stick shift video ever!
riding the clutch is when you don't have the clutch all the way down. not just having the clutch down a lot. it's actually better for the transmission to have the clutch all the way down instead of putting it into neutral at stops. but that is only true if you have the clutch disengaged completely (by pushing the clutch peddle down as far as it goes).
They always say to balance the clutch and gas simultaneously... Yeah, that's not completely right. You have to give it a little gas BEFORE you slowly let off the clutch. If you do this, you're guaranteed not to stall. You only stall when the clutch is engaged but the engine doesn't get enough gas. For smooth shifts after 1st, just give it gas while you're shifting gears, same principle. The order is what's important.
@Marshmallowrex yup it happens but what someone would want to do is to hold down the clutch and brake pedal while in first gear makes it harder for the car to go back and simply start giving it gas imediately dont matter if u burn tire as long as u dont roll back and hit someone!!!!!! but i'm sure u already new that this is for beginers only!!!!!!
@superwiicrazy It's always been called a stick shit you idiot. It's much easier to say "stick" than saying "manual transmission". Fuck you for having a dirty mind.
@DrQB0Y but NSX is very far from something like average car, by a lot of people is considered one of the best made(at least highly reliable) entry range sports car.
@MrLexington45 Those cars have either dual clutch automated manuals or just autos with manual shift option. Not trying to put you down, just kindfully correcting your mistake.
@axlplayer14 on the 2012 911, its not technically on sale yet, but its been confirmed that it does have 7 speed manual. (a proper, stickshift, three pedals on the floor one).
@freshdelly26 or u could tow it to the empty parking lot LOL!!!!!!!! but good question accually the best question i've seen so far in all these how to drive a stick on u tube
@freshdelly26 do u know how to drive a manual now? it took me only 4 days of practice driving my 5speed mach 1 on my driveway after that i took it to the streets the same day and i didn't stall or killed it!!!!!!!!!
LOL! I'm from england and I came across this because I was watching jersey shore and snooki had to drive stick?! I've now realised that it means manual. Hahahahaha I thought everyone learnt to drive with manual...
I only clutch it when I get it to move :D Floating gears on a standard is fun stuff. I don't know why :D:D Maybe it makes me feel somewhat superior to all the other drivers out there haha
@OfficialRenoUtube Oh yeah! Changing gears is a cake walk! :D My first car was a standard. 1981 Toyota Landcruiser haha. 4 speed. Top speed of 82 mph...observed haha. Now I drive a newer car. 2000 Honda Prelude...4 speed auto. Speedo goes to 150 lol but it's not near as fun to drive as that old truck...
@kcham35334 o yeah i was driving a 1998 Dodge Neon i only drove it till 3 gear didnt go 4 or 5th the hardest part was going to first gear after that shifting was easy
Thank goodness I learned how to drive in America! Automatics are simple and easy to drive. And yes I am European but still have to learn how to drive with a stick shift car =P
One question, Obviously if your trying to cut across to the other side of a 2-way road you have to shift up really fast (TO GET UP TO SPEED), but what if you have to stop in the middle/turning lane to wait for traffic to clear, do you have to shift all the way back down to first gear really quickly in order to stop completely? (Sounds dangerous)??
ive been driving stick since i was 8 years old, i drove my papaws old truck on the farm all the time, I also learned how to drive his rig when I was 15... I find it humorous when people dont know how, when i jump in automatics ill find myself reaching for the clutch and shifter lol
Not all people learn at a young age, since technically it -is- illegal. Also, many many people drive automatic cars, and never take the time to learn how to use a manual transmission.
@MONEYMAN101ish no, they do still make stick shift cars for the U.S. market, but the manual/automatic relationship is pretty much opposite of the european and other world market(s). I wish they would make more manuals, it's a heckuva lot more fun to drive than automatics.
P.S. my dad's vehicles that he's owned for himself (over 30+ years) have all been stick.
OK, I'm almost 21, and I'm just now learning how to drive. My best friend taught me in her boyfriend's car, which is an automatic, and I was like "Wow, this is easy. I'm actually driving!" She gave a 6 on a 1-10 scale. :)
Today, my mom was teaching me how to drive her car, which is manual, and I'm like "Oh, fuck, I have no clue what the fuck I'm doing!"
I'm only 16 but i can drive a manual transmission car... you have to have more practice and patience to drive.... but now I'm practicing to learn more...
fml my dad has a manual car -__- so i have to learn it too..sigh* for being a girl, stick shift would be a major accomplishment ;D Lol! but its fukn scary..and my legs are shaky Dx and learning in LA ..fml!
first driving lesson today, stick shift, first ever go in a car and didnt stall it once so im kinda happy bout that :P its crazy here in the uk though we have probably the hardest test in the western world, we're a nation of safety freaks, so crap.
Well I find it easier to slowly release the clutch until the car starts to roll on the clutch alone then just give it some gas and release the clutch completely
wait you need a car with a manual tranny? DAMMIT i was gonna learn how to drive a standard in my automatic! and shifting at 2500 is for GIRLS! redline all the time!
I am speaking because I want to let you guys know how Relaxing and Fresh Air it Feels to be Driving an Automatic after you've driven a Stick Shift for the rest of your life because somebody sold it to The Population as something Masculine and Cool to drive. From my experience, It's tiring and old technology.
@heartlessvietboy Well, it is actually fun to fool around with a manual car. But if you just drive to go somewhere an automatic would be the best choice.
While going at a speed of 10 mph, shifting gears with the windows down is pretty cool. You feel the the soft bone from the bottom of the gear. Because of Parking, traffic and stop signs you feel relaxing in an automatic. You just turn the wheel and go forward.
I Saw this video i was so confused until i was actually behind the wheel.
