Russell, right, yeah, I saw him like 20 minutes ago, in my hs theater. He was in a show we put on called Broadway comes to Robbinsville. People sang this song, but not him, though. Still, besides Russell, we had Brett Colby, Amy Maude Helfer, and DIana Petras. This is a great song!
i dont brag, but i really know russell fischer. i knew him while he was jersey. my aunt beth(amory) had him in her choir. i remember seeing him as jimmy in modern millie in plays in the park, roosevelt park, woodbridge NJ.
Another impressive element: these singers have let the music itself convey all the drama of the piece. Too many singers overdramatize the music with exaggerated scoops and belting, as if the score itself does not contain the necessary theatricality and excitement. But these singers' strict adherence to the written music lets all the natural drama of the piece shine through brilliantly. That takes discipline. Bravo.
Everything is impressive. But one particular element stands out: the brisk tempo is delightful. Singers over-impressed with their own vibrato love to drag the tempo through the mud. But these two have overcome that temptation and provided us with an enthusiastic tempo that keep the listener excited and attentive. Just wonderful, in every way.
I think both the guys should have switch parts. Guy 1 has more of a tenor voice than the other one... its like too high for him or something. Also, homeboy needs to practice some dynamics.
Yeah he did. At 1:15 its those eyes that gave him life and hope he'd never known. Not those eyes i feel will never ever let me go. What he sang is part of the second verse not the first.
Haha cool. When I saw "first verse" that's what I listened to... but it's kind of hard to tell what verses/choruses are in music theatre songs. :) Thanks! Still, GORGEOUS performance, guys.
ouch. thank you? i feel the part i sang is more appropriate for a lyric baritone than a tenor such as myself. stearns has such gorgeous tone and resonance. we're pals - this was the only duet we could think of that we both knew! hehe
hahah sorry if i offended just very passionate about what i do :) re-reading my comment i realise that woah calm down ben but again passion! i agree that the part is more suited to a lyric bari but i think as tenors we cud both easily pull it off :P more duets!!!!!! :)
He's in Jersey Boys as Joe Peschi/Franki Valli (u/s).
SEE HIM! For most of our lives, we lived less than a mintue away from each other. LOL! It's amazing to know that I lived that close to Broadway star-to-be.
is it me, or does the guy singing the tenor part (russell fischer i think???) have a voice quite similar to Raul Esparza? (check him out on the "Company" revival recording - awesome!)
Sterns...wow is all we can say! and oh yea thanks for making us feel really, really old! You are amazing! Leader was a long time ago, uh :)~ hope all is well....
something is telling me that no one was talking about their attractiveness but their talent. and wow, that was incredibly ignorant. and mr. stearns i live in the princeton area, could you let me know if you have a performance anytime soon? you are fantastic.

I like the bass/baritone, whatever you are ... not too wild about the tenor though ... or the higher voice guy on the left.

So, when you are on Broadway, can we say that we saw the talent earlier? Amazing, as ever!
squelchyfrog 3 years ago
I must say that, though the characters are older people, I think the thinner texture of this song makes it better for younger voices.
Though I do think they could have taken it a little more leisurely; it feels rushed and not at all bittersweet.
