  • By the balls of Þórr!

I'm no grammarian by trade, but

    this YouTube argument

about whether or not there is an "e" in "art"

    has successfully outnerded me.

    Well done!

    Bitchin' song, though.

  • Well, I'd say the active participle of 'to be' is 'being' but the 'active' part of that description is redundant (being is inherently active in a grammatical sense) and anyway this is all a bit like talking about the wetness of water. In standard spelling it's definitely 'art thou', not 'arte thou', but I expect 'arte thou' cropped up here or there, because 'art(e?)' predates the standardisation of English spelling.

  • This is actually "Assassin" off of The Eye. "Hvar Ertu?" is just a lyric that means, if I'm not mistaken, "Where are you?" in Icelandic.

  • I believe "Hvar Ertu" is the lyrics that Bjork sings in the chorus. The guy who uploaded this clearly doesn't know the names of the songs, so he just put the first lyrics. For example, in Critical Mass he put "Enginn Heima", cause that's what Einar says. :)

  • or more properly "Where arte thou?"

  • There's no E in "art."

  • Maybe not that word however in a participle of "are" there is.

  • No there isn't. There's no active participle for "is," and the only form of the past participle is "been." This is true for the whole history of Modern English.

  • Early Modern English.XD
