  • Philosophy degree is good with an Intelligence Studies degree where you can participate in a think tank...

  • If you're looking to be a professor in philosophy or planning on going to law or medical school, then yea go ahead and get a philosophy degree if that's what you're into, but if your going to get the degree to try and get a job elsewhere, please don't major in philosophy, you'll just fuck yourself over with debt and the degree won't help you find a job, so please just really think it over.

  • Very informative!! I am majoring in Physics and Astronomy and I have been thinking of a minor in Philosophy. I am not sure if it would be worth my while and I hope it would help me down the road when I go for my PhD in Astronomy. Any advice would help greatly!

  • I would not recommend a major in Philosophy. I have a B.A. in Philosophy and Ancient Languages. Major in something practical that can get you a good job then study philosophy over the course of your life. I eventually realized that my philosophy degree was worthless career wise and I went back and did a B.S. and became a software developer. I wish I had majored in Computer Science and only minored in philosophy. The market is terrible for lawyers so that route is poor.

  • Hi thanks for posting this video. It's certainly informative. I'm currently going to be transferring to UCR and I've decided to major in Philosophy. Originally I was a Psychology major, but after having taken Philosophy courses to fulfill my transfer requirements I switched fields. I'm planning to become a college professor in the future. I was wondering what advice you could offer me, since I will be immersed in Philosophy this fall.

  • hello. i am a pre-med major/bio, and i want to attend medical school because i really want to be a doctor. however, besides medicine, i love philosophy and i was wondering if i should do an extra year and minor in philosophy. is it worth it??? needed? helpful to mcat??? i love philosophy, but its completely opposite of what i am pursing. should or should i not??? thank you for you time.

  • Philosophy is a great major for law school, because it teaches you how to think. It seems like the majority of Congressmen and women along with most other politicians don't have much thinking ability.

  • This video was very helpful thank u for putting it up

  • thank you so much sir...you are a gentleman to put this out to help people like me...im 20 and im not looking for golds or riched im just looking to get my PHD in Philosophy so I can teach young minds to think for themselves and to not be afraid of life.

  • @24NerF Thanks 24Nerf! Your response has been most appreciated and I am glad that you are able to make the most out of my comment by sarcastically taking it as advice. All the best love to you, you crazy diamond!

  • Considering majoring in Philosophy, but I'm concerned about being able to find a job with this major since I have no desire to go to law school.

  • @GnosticQuasar Yea, but dont worry, just go into philosophy and do what you love. The worst thing to happen to anyone is going into a profession they do not enjoy, just because other people say so. People like you should do what feels comfortable and easy-going, so that the people who realize that life isn't easy-going, can go and get a degree in engineering or commerce. Life is competitive enough as it is, we need idiots like you to waste their lives. Keep it up!

  • @24NerF Thank you random insult. Now for my own slightly less random advice to you: if a simple choice of major is the difference between a wasted life and a worthwhile life to you, then you are way too high strung. Seriously, take it down a notch before you snap.

  • @GnosticQuasar You're welcome, thanks to your advice, I have realized that my endless success in life has definitely caused me to snap. I am right not considering a more toned-down approach to life, perhaps indulging in the pleasures of cannabis while debating the discrepancies between the mind-body dichotomy, while my rent is 3 months overdue and I am hopelessly in search of a steady job..., THAT would certainly be a less high strung life. Truly philosophical would you not say?

  • @24NerF If "endless success in life" means that I will spend part of my time spewing aggressive vitriol at random people on the Internet, then it seems to me that, ironically, endless success makes one a very miserable person.

  • @24NerF People putting down other people's perspectives with their own perspective with little to no reasoning, how progressive!

  • @insert6528 Hi, how are you doing, I've noticed that you've taken on the self-righteous campaign to ensure a better Youtube community by certifying every comment as 'progressive' or not. Thanks for the advice you have provided, I will certainly inspect every comment I make sure that it is 100% progressive for future sake.

  • i am from singapore and i had never heard of any friends taking philosophy. but i am interested in it, i really want to major in it but i am afraid of my parents will be disappointed...

  • If you can find Shelly kagan's lectures at Yale University for his 'Death' class, it's an excellent jumping off (or in) point to familiarize your self with the kinds of arguments appear in the canon of philosophy and how they're argued.

  • metaphysics and epistemology are my main interest and i plan on majoring in philosophy before going to medical school.

  • so then i do philosophy on my own time to learn or just to think about stuff and i know tons of valuable stuff etc etc so if i take a class in collage on this how does the class work?

  • philosophy classes are typically discussion based, where a large portion of the grade is based on participation, and another large portion on term papers that require critical analysis of the ideas of a well known philosopher such as Plato, St. Thomas Aquinas, or Descartes. Some instructors choose to make the class more topic based and others more on historical and biographical contexts. Regardless, plan to think critically on topics and possibly apply your own thoughts to the equation.

  • thanks :)
