As a french follower of the "Midsomer Murders" serie I think he was really the best character, I regret.

It will be difficult to change (in France "Inspecteur Barnaby"=John Nettles).

@inenglishwithseries As you may know, the new leading man played by Neil Dudgeon is also called Barnaby - a cousin. John Nettles is a hard act to follow but Neil is doing a good job.

Although sad that John has now finished work on the series, I have seen a preview DVD of Neil Dudgeon in the new series of Midsomer Murders and he is excellent. (Have also interviewed Neil and his new screen school headmistress wife Sarah, played by Fiona Dolman, for features to be published in 2011). John's final two episodes have yet to be broadcast in the UK with Neil taking the lead on screen (in the UK) prob from spring 2011.

It was out in our newspapers, so I doubt it. Considering the Midsumer Murders are a huge success (we have reruns constantly), i pretty much doubt it when the news arrives in the morning newspaper.

Elizebeth - not yet announced. The production company is still awaiting word from ITV on the commission for a new series to be filmed into 2011...the one after John leaves next summer.

Honestly, i doubt that it would be succesful. John Nettles has given so much of himself in the person of Tom Barnaby. You can't only replace that. Give a good series a good ending and please don't destroy it by forcing things.
