Bravo. I really enjoyed this lil photo essay. I lived in Bethnal Green for a few years, and being an Aussie I guess I am an immigrant (although some might argue it was a homecoming merely delayed by a few generations. I'm not asian (we call ourselves australasian in this region of the world thankyou, and we love our geographical neighbours) and not very trendy so yay...I go against the grain. Cockney reminds me of WW2, times change, places evolve, relax and enjoy the process. I miss Bethnal!!

People who rate YouTube clips against their expectations from thousands of hours (and millions of dollars) of effort that go into mainstream cinema or TV productions are just plain idiots. Look at the videos from some of the people commenting... sorry, what videos? Yeah, social video network my arse, more like a bitch fest.
Another interesting and (hopefully) worthwhile comment... It's crazy to think that all we did was put up a silly and somewhat pointless video detailing photos of our trip home, and now we've entered into a debate over the state of the east end.
Please add more comments and opinions - as long as they're constructive I'd love to hear them!

Pretty much anything outside of many if not most people's subculture tends to be anywhere between uninteresting and abhorrent to the viewer. It is unfortunate that JW's daughter was bullied, but is it any less unfortunate that the first non-white(?) kids in the school were bullied when they were at school? And who are the non-trendies? What did they do at their typical east end pubs? What was good about them back in the day? What is it that you miss? Just that everyone spoke English?
Unfortunatley the people to be sold down the river have been the cockneys. A good 75% of people I know have moved out of the East End now sickened by what they have seen happen there. Last straw for me was my daughter being the only white girl left in her year at school and being bullied for being white. I say let the trendies and the asians keep it now. There is no East End anymore. Oh BTW, once you have walked under the arch in Brick Lane you are infact already in Bethnal Green.
Agree there Pienliquor77, though a little heavy on the swearing. I moved away from the East End too 5 years ago to Walthamstow. The Green has changed beyond recognition what with the influx of asian immigrants and the trendy types. 25 years ago the trendies wouldn't even think of coming for a drink in the Green let alone live there, tbh they still dont really frequent typical east end pubs. As for the asians they have completely taken over the Green as they freely and proudly admit.
