  • Effortless singing. And with such perfection.Just awesome.I happened to watch T balasarawati sing and dance for krishna nee beganee baro.It was Just amazing. So going by the lineage, these artists are grand children of Veena Dhanammal. They carried a natural "bent of mind" which made them absorb the niceties of it effortlessly.I am now wondering as to what a great vidwan Dhanammal must be.Thank you so much KS for this wonderful upload!!!

  • I log on this every day and sometimes more than once.No one has brought out Mayamalava gowla so wonderfully in just a few seconds of her alapana. What a gerat rendition

  • unfortunately T Ranganathan mama's son's didn't take to the art. An end to a glorious lineage!

  • blessed are those who listen to Brinda Amma singing...

  • The Tambura 'Vidwan' is more likely Douglas Knight, Lakshmi Knight's husband and Aniruddha's father.

  • Awesome. Looks like this is from an old Doordarshan recording. Is it available anywhere commercially? Perhaps a DVD or VCD?

  • hope it is ......

It was recorded by Robert Garfias a professor of Anthropology at UC Irvine for his documentary. On his webpage there are other videos from other cultures as well

  • amazing video guru! thanks.. i neever knew jon higgins had veerappan like mushy!! Brindamma's bani and elucidation are so clear! makesme wow! Is the one accompanyin her daughter? does she sing anymore?

  • I dont know if she sings anymore ....

  • Yes, Vegavahini occasionally sings in Chennai. Recently has been accompanying Aniruddha Knight's dance performances in the US.

  • Oho .... Thanks but where are all these great singers gone ? ?

  • It's sad that this kind of music can't be appreciated in the context of today's Karnatak music. There are several people from traditional communities who have unfortunately been sidelined in this manner.

  • Its really sad and shame on Us that we never care for OUR tradition and Culture mmmm

  • I agree. The Oduvars and the Devadasi communities in particular have been badly affected. All thanks to the side-effects of the Caste system, a double edged sword!

  • great video - thanks
