as for the rinses when i have a full load wash in my miele i always use water plus button and of course a third rinse !!! when we wash with powder detergent it is better to have a third rinse also that means that clothes absorb softener better with a third rinse and i believe that noone would like to smell more the detergent than the softener thats why i need the third rinse !!!

@JIMDP25 I use water plus for loads of towels and if the load has really thick/heavy cottons, e.g. hoodies in it, but otherwise the default rinses are fine for me :)

@jps1988 if only could now exactly what rinse sensor our miele's have !!! nowhere is written that miele washing machines have rinse sensor ( like bosch aquasensor hydrosensor ) and the only thing you can read on manuals is : if you choose spin speed less than 700 rpm a third rinse will be added

@JIMDP25 From a reliable source: Sensor-Controlled Rinse Cycle

During the rinse cycle, cold rinse water drenches the laundry and mixes with the

warm suds in the laundry; this increases the temperature of the rinse water.

The increase in temperature is monitored by the suds temperature sensor R30.

The temperature increase provides an indication of the rinse effectiveness.

Were there certain Miele machines that actually test the alkalinity of the water, and execute further rinses until the level is low? This is the problem with these new machines, they try to be too green and think they're doing us a saving favour. It's like flushing the toilet twice cos the first one was not enough, therefore using up even more water!

@tsangari The sensor rinse process measures the temperature difference in the water in the first rinse; basically as warm laundry warms up the cold rinse water, the temp of the cold rinse water rises - the theory being that once the temp of the water has evened out, as much detergent as possible has been rinsed out. Bosch used to do a hydrosensor model which sensed the cloudiness of the water and rinsed until it was clean. To be honest though 2 rinses is often enough for me :-)
