  • Nice, can some one tell me how to download this, I've downloaded locos and cars, but never a route, I only got MLT routes.

    Thanks.

  • @nkproad777 Follow the instructions in the Readme file.

  • i know a good song for this: Amish pardise!

  • @kingelvis24 Ha! It was tempting to use that, but it didn't make the final cut.

  • Well, about this MSTS BIN you recommended, that is no longer necessary. I finally figured out what's wrong. So, thanks for the help, anyway.

  • Great review, and well put at 3:24; I felt a little "empty" while running the route.

  • have you tried installing the 1970 version? it has problems like loading the track database on the editor and tools.

  • i downloaded the railroad itself. i tried to open it on the editor so i can create consists but it says there's an error reading the activities so i'm not sure what to do

  • Just delete the activity files (the ACT files in the "Activities" folder, which is located in the "Strasburg" folder).

  • ah. i hope this works. after all this is a beautiful railroad and i won't want to miss this!

  • What MSTS BIN should I use to keep my computer operating normally.

  • lol every time i watch this review, i always think of Top Gear and their style of reviewing cars....idk why...

  • Interesting that you say that. The show was partially inspired by Top Gear.

  • Mr. Helfrick also added some passenger car packs along with another railbus and a pair of diesels. The second passenger car pack includes an Indian Valley coach that was used in the movie "Thomas and the Magic Railroad."

  • can u send me a link to the engines and map? i cant find it no matter what i type into the websit s search engine

  • ok i got the engine now how do i get it into my disk?

  • where can one download to get this on their pc ready to run?

  • As it says in the credits...train-sim. Same with the rolling stock.

  • can you upload the settle and carlisle route on trainsim or something. I accidnetly deleted it and now I cant download any other routes

  • And also, there is NO traffic at all, ever on ANY of the Strasburg's PUBLIC road crossings: Paradise Lane, Esbanshade, Cherry Hill, Black Horse Road!

I hope to fix this if I can get into the route editor. I also hope to make a few changes myself. It would've been nice if someone designed a buggy "car" that you could have occasionally run through Strasburg's 4 dirt road crossings.

  • For one thing, I would like to know how you got into the Route Editor for Strasburg. Whenever I try, it closes the route editor because it couldn't find a .ref file.

Traffic - Yes, I agree the traffic has a problem. After I return with the last train of the day and put the engine into the engine house, I find a huge line of traffic building up all the way from the top of Gap road.

I would like to know what utility that was that made shakes as the train was moving? I want that.

  • i live about a have hour away from this route

  • Even though the the route isn't the true Strasburg Railroad that was expected...

but you have to understand the limits of train simulator.

  • well said!

  • I've been there before and also that is where I liked trains as well because I liked trains ever since I was 14 months old because my dad go me into them

  • also "at the railyard" is very similar to the show Tracks Ahead

  • In some respects, I suppose it's similar, but "TA" is more focused on just showing places. I show 'em and review 'em.

  • I undertsand this and also I was just making an analogy

  • i love going there in the Fall

  • as you said in ur review that the pennsylvania mountains are not ther but they are really the but they are smaller then they are on the real tourist route

  • I just watched again and noticed the Land Rover towards the end was missing the wheels and tires on the passenger side of the vehicle like it was just floating up in the air and sitting on the drivers side tires WOW

  • It may have just been the perspective. I haven't noticed it in the sim.

  • I looked at it in the Sim, it's like that.

  • You're right. It has to do with the number of polys used on the model.

  • I am just curious are you some sort of computer train game critic cause most of the footage was great however I have never been to PA so it was nice and I did not notice the obscene amounts of traffic on the road till you mentioned it

  • I'm glad you liked the footage.

  • How to you get those camera views and would you like a more realistic consist. I can e-mail you one.

  • Honestly I wasn't too pleased with the way #90 looked. I mean, she looks the same in many ways, but the headlight at the middle of the smokebox just takes the escence away. Still a nice route, and a great revew.

  • Thanks! Yeah, it's true that it's unrealistic. I'm just glad, though, that there is a #90. There still isn't a #475.

  • #475 is coming up soon, being created by Chris Helfrick. He's making two versions: The N&W version and the PRR (Strasburg) Version.

It is going to be realistic like the real thing, VERY realistic. It's going to be the best made Strasburg MSTS Locomotive.

Also, how did you use the camera so it stood still? Which camhack was that?

And how did you use the route editor with Strasburg? I wanna make some changes but each time I try it closes the route editor because it couldn't find a .ref file.

  • Wow, 5 months later and Mr. Helfrick hasn't made any progress with #475...

  • Thanks!

  • They should move 90's headlight from high to centered.

  • cool!

  • This route is lower than pro train 2. ouch.:(

  • Wow, I forgot how good my old route looked. Like the upgrades you've made. Great video trmania! Yes the route editor is a bit hit or miss for distant mountains- what you see isn't always what you get!

    Chris

  • I'm glad you like the video. However, the route is completely stock (sans sky, I used Kosmos for that) - all your creation.

  • I been to the Strasburg Railroad before!:) I had some great fun on some great rides on the Strasburg Branchline!:)

  • Unexpected...

  • I tried the 70's version when it first came out, and was pretty impressed. Some of the shots on this video look much better. But then where it's pointed out as to scenery lack, yes - it's missing in places.

Maybe Chris will upgrade still? But in Chris's defence, Strasburg and area is shown in the movie 'Witness', and it isn't that 'hilly' really. I believe that would be more westwardly in PA? Well done video though, and find these very informative.

  • I was thinking more of distant hills, and the hills that do exist are a little bit, er, sharp.

  • I don't think they'd be that prominent still?

Maybe with a low and long flat backdrop of wide arc's. But I agree with the 'sharpness'. A problem with many MSTS routes during general construct.

I myself literally go into MLT routes and 'hand carve them' like a virtual sculptor. It's insanely tedious, but pays off in the end at least for me. If producers were to do it - we'd never see a route again for 5-10 years! LOL

  • Yeah, the Route Editor is a challenge to work with.
