@bubbly221 why r i stupied? 1. we eat them instead of store bought meat. Consider them free range and organic. 2. it's a sustainable natural resource supplementing our local economy. Most food in Hawaii is imported. 3. Hunting is the population check here. There are no natural predators in hawaii. 4. Pigs are bad for native ecosystems and watersheds, and must be controlled for the good of the environment.
@nbarca omg im so sorry my stupid sister hacked on to my account and was showing off her illiteracy and being dumb. Although I dont agree with eating meat (I, myself, am a vegeterian against store-bought meat) i can agree with the reasons of why you would hunt/eat the pigs. And at least you don't just hunt the animals and leave them, like some people I know.
Also I had no idea there weren't any natural predators in hawaii. That's cool, thanks for teaching me something new!
@nbarca Dont mean to sound like a sissy but do you have to be careful not to accidently touch something then put it in your mouth later, for instants skining then smoking a gritt later? Also do you need to worry about disease or is the cooking of the pig get rid of disease?
@DeWiz001 ...well, defintly dont poke into the guts and get poop all over everything but otherwise, not really. Although pig may contain trichinosis so touching raw meat and then licking your bloody fingers wouldn't be good. That leads #2: You will want to check with the wildlife people where you are from but in general, Hawaii pigs are clean. Just cook it fully to kill the trichinosis parasite.
You're right, it's not the best method for conserving meat. We used to "scrape the ribs" and get some of the meat (for smoking) but if you want the whole ribs, then you would want to field dress the animal first. I like ribs too these days.
The same method can likely be done with a deer I bet ! I'll never gut a kill again! Years ago I saw a method of skinning a animal by making similar starting cuts, then you using a wench to pull the hide off.
i know u siad that u dont like that certian meat but why not take it off and sell it or give it to a friend beacause u dont want to waste meat......................nice vid though.......give me a thumbs up if u go with meh.
Now I do; just at the time, I hadn't perfected removing the loins yet. Was at the point where it would take longer to get them out than they were worth on such a small pig.
i noticed you did not take the ham, is it because you dont like the meat? i usually take the hams but with it being such a thick piece of meat it holds a gamey taste.
No, I took them. I just never showed the cut. You can see them removed in the end. It was some time back but I think the footage was worthless, so I cut it out of the end product to make it shorter.
The meat over the guts can be removed without touching the guts if you're careful and there is a way to reach in and remove the tenderloins but in that case it would be very small, like you say, only a couple bites.
i'd personally would not skin the boar out in the field, i would just gut the pig and throw it in my truck with a tarp covering it... this would keep the flies and maggots from penetrating the meat, you ever seen "into the wild"
It's not shown but we use cotton meat bags to hold the meat. A second bag can be placed over the first if flies are a big problem. It's usually some miles back to the car, so we just save our back and clean them on the spot. You catch so many out here anyway...
5/5 for the idea of using the leaves. I hunt in a grassy area full of hay and dirt, so if I want to field skin something I use old blankets (biodegradable, bury with the gut pile). Good hunting
Very informative! I learned from a friend to first gut it then debone it hanging from a tree. But I've been hunting lately in places with no tree, so I'll try this method. It looks a lot cleaner too. Thanks!
Sure, I don't see why not. I do it on feral goats too. Only thing is that if it were a larger animal, then that little bit of meat I decided to leave behind might not be so little. For the sake of not wasting, it would probably be a better idea to gut the animal so that the belly meat and between ribs can be salvaged more easily.
THX that is the way brah!!

nice job, all without making a mess, . What do you wrap the meat in to pack it out?
jws54 2 years ago
a cotton bag, usually a pillow case. Usually fits in a daypack.

great video. i live on maui so i will try this method. just one question, what kind of meat is pulled off of the ribs?
bowkilla93 3 years ago
Are you packing out the meat by hiking to your vehicle or are you close by it? If you are hiking out, with what method you contain the meat?
naughty00e 3 years ago
This looks similar to caping a deer. Do you ever use a pocket knife with utility razor to make the first cuts?

Awesome... looks like a great method, and less of a pain. It's almost like skinning a rabbit, I'm going to try it on the next pig I shoot.
