@mrfaizal1978 Try gentle advance and retreat techniques. Retreat (a reward for a scared bird; or give your bird a treat or something he likes) every time your bird is a bit braver. For example if you extend your hand slowly towards him and he doesn't move away, say 'good bird' and retreat (or give him a treat depending on how tame he is). He will learn trust pretty quickly like this. Putting a little bit of honey on your finger doesn't hurt either, as a reward!
@68Jalina hahaha thx its sitting next to me lol it trust me more now we sit and wach utube but when i dont play games anymore cuz it hates games lol but it uses my phone alot and it plays soccor now btw dose ur one hop or walk my one hops idk if somethin is wrong with it 2morro im gonna take it to the park for a fun day out lol 1 more thing it started to talk at the midle of the night i heard someone LoLing when i went i saw my bird :P thx anyways c ya
@CookieMuffys I know. My first lorikeet flew away when my parents were looking after him. I was devastated. When I heard a bird had been handled in to a nearby vet and was about to be put down, I was so hopeful it was him, but it was a different bird needing a home. She's such a character, but so different to my first one. So get out there and save another bird!
@jalina68 Aww thx... I will ... i am gonna adopt one as soon as i can.. Coco knew how to sing and it was soo cute when he sang.. he mostly sang in the car and he would be soo happy.. I blame myself for him flying away:( i should have taken better care :(
Hi Paul again. If you would like to talk about your bird Squishy I find it easier to chat to breeders of parrots as they know lots about them and they can give you valuable advice. With my lori Jazz he learnt to talk naturally I did not force him I let him pick up naturally by listening and I don't clip the wings. It all comes down to how good you train them. They love to eat fruit, silverbeat, biscuits, and so on. My two loris love toast with jam and cups of tea and coffee, not all the time
Hi my name is Paul. I live in Christchurch New Zealand. I have Two rainbow lorikeets, Jazz who is 4 and half yrs old and Murphy 5 mths old. I love your video and it is great to see such a happy little bird hopping around and playful, you have done a wonderful job. Congrats to yo.
@Paulshatford Thanks Paul. I just love Squish. I wish I knew more people with lorikeets locally to talk about these crazy birds. What a sense of humour they have, hey?
@MeerkatGal No, she can walk, but hopping is faster when she's got cats to chase. Sometimes when she's extra happy she'll just bounce up and down on the spot (high too) or around in circles. That's the cutest.
The lorikeets remind me of my little one I rescued. Was Squishy a runner that fell out the nest? That's how ended up with one. Rescued before the local cats got it. Lorikeets are the most amazing birds ever!!!!
Yes, I wouldn't trust a bird with any cats, but my cats are pretty dopey instinct-wise. Or maybe they know Squish is part of the family and off-limits. I wouldn't leave them alone together (out of the cage) in any case. I think Squish would murder them ;-)
@Thebaneo123 parrots can be pretty nasty. not your typcal finch your cat may catch outside. my cat and bird get along..they dont play...they tolerate eachother. first day i brought the bird home the cat wanted to eat/play rough with it. i held the cat down. she is an always indoor cat. so she doesnt really know what to do with bird anyhow. they mostly just stay out of eachothers way. i have forgot to put bird away when leaving, come home to bird on floor(hours past) and fine
@RustyNailMediaInc They are great if you have the time - they are so smart and demanding that they really need almost full-time attention (unless you get 2). I hear that they go bonkers if they don't get company and interaction. They're VERY loud and sometimes quite aggressive, so it's not ideal for some people! Also galahs are very sociable birds and need heaps of attention - I think it's quite cruel to keep one in a cage by itself most of the day.
@RustyNailMediaInc I have a red collared/rainbow lorri he is very demanding to say the least and if he doesn't get attention he's LOUD! He's in his cage while I'm at work but he's out in the morning and when I get home in the arvo. They're 'special' little birdies that need much love. My parents have a galah he's a noisy bugger too, prob a bit smarter too, being bigger and all =p. Any bird you get just make sure you have the time for please.
Basically Gogi is the one interacting with the cats. I keep Squishy away from them as she gets a bit vicious (bites their fur and hangs on as they run away terrified). Poor helpless cats ;-)
nice lory the best one i have seen on youtube i have one like that. most lory's on youtube are all wierd looking u keep our's in very good condition!! nice vid.

Haha, the way she hops around is absolutely adorable! Is that the only way Rainbow Lorikeets can travel on foot - by hopping? Thanks for sharing. (:

How did you get the cat to not try and eat the bird? I have always wanted a rainbow lorikeet, but I am worried about my two cats?
