Hello. This is the first time I have viewed your channel. I totally agree with you about the BET awards show. It SUCKED!!! I thought they would have nailed the MJ tribute that was the reason I watched. A complete waste of time and it has been three years now and I still will not watch BET programming.
I did agree with a lot of things he had to say about BET because I'm black and I don't watch it because it misrepresents African Americans and half of the entertainers are sell outs anyway but he has contradicted himself so many times because he obviously proved he sat up her and watched the awards and analyzing every little detail and is acting just like what they portray on BET with all bad language he's using... BET has been a joke ever since Robert Johnson sold his majority share to Viacom, Black viewers who want quality black television. Reason BET was made because MTV was known to air only Rock and other white artist. They didn't even air Michael Jackson videos until BET aired and Rap. Back then BET only showed Black News and Videos. Today it fell off because of the merge of MTV and BET having similar shows, lack of reality shows and Not a good Representation of Black Culture.

I'm open to the idea of having our own nation/or even integrating with another nation (i.e. Ghana) but that wasn't what was on my mind when I wrote the comment. We can open "fast food" restaurants that serve healty & nutritious foods that won't rob us of our health featuring FRESH squeezed unpasteurized juices for beverages instead of syrupy sodas...made from ORGANIC fruit grown from OUR farms.
So if your Black or White, in this country, we all have the same or very similiar cultures (those who are 3rd and 4th generations born in this country that is) . Now we may have a different heritage, but our culture is the same.

BET used to have such a variety. They mixed entertainment with educational programming like Teen Summit, BET News with Tavis. The Bev Smith Show ( don't remember show's name).
Now its just all baffonery and sex. Am I the only person who thinks the game is complete GARBAGE. The show plays up EVERY Black stereotype known to man. Whe I saw that the show's exec. producer was Kelsey Grammer (who's as White as George Bush), I wans't a bit suprised.

wow you had me rollin! lol I was highly upset when I saw this show, too. I NEVER watch BET, but only tuned in to see how they were gonna tribute Michael. I instantly regreted expecting anything more than full-blast coonery from BET. In high school I took a break from black music and only listened to rock and when ppl asked me why, I would refer them back to the great black songs that were out at the time like shake that laffy taffy. I just stick to old-school nowadays.

It's sad because BET stands for Black Entertainment Television. It doesn't specifically mean "rap" and "poppy R&B" music. That station doesn't expose you to everything black. It only represents one type of black person.
There's the TV One channel and Centric but they show a lot of shows that stopped filming new shows.
I didn't think the MJ tribute was good at all. I didn't like how Jamie was talking the way he talked, trying to show respect for MJ.

I remember when BET had "Teen Summitt" hosted by college bound young men & women who dressed respectfully, "Video Soul" with Donnie Simpson interviewing artists like EnVogue, Teena Marie, Al B.Sure, etc., "Comic View" with D.L Hughley, Sommore, Cedric the Entertainer...it was pretty decent B4 Viacom. At any rate...we need to be in control of our own culture, owning AND SUPPORTING our media...we have the means to do it.

I have already made up my mind on the matter & wasn't interested in debating about African repatriation b/c I knew that you'd have your view. But I'll say that I haven't encountered resistance from continent Africans when discussing it & 100% of the time they offered to allow me to stay at their residence in Africa while visiting. I've even had hints of marriage offers (for my Sistas who say there aren't any men...) I'm the type of person who finds my own solutions & I was offering suggestions.
