  • @ddm3542 - I should add my mum was bombed out of her home (twice) & her bomber station (once). She came from Liverpool so she experienced a great many more than 3 raids. Not once did she call the Germans criminals. She accepted it was total war.My dad was bombed in Malaya, Singapore. Java, Sumatra etc.He said the saddest coffins were the smallest. He also said once the war had started it had to be finished by any means available.Safe but highly accurate means were not available.

  • ddm3542 The memorial should be to the bravery of those men for actually getting into planes & flying 100s mile into enemy territory.Half of them were killed. It was not a safe job "merely" bombing the towns.RAF learnt how to bomb cities by watching the Luftwaffe! Most of these men have no known grave ditto the Germans. If it helps Germans to grieve then they should build a memorial (see Hislop's prog on WW1 memorials).UK was bombed in WW1.Who could foretell German plans.Retrospection is easy.

  • My dad was Blenheim aircrew.I certainly agree with memorial BUT if words of Churchill are incorporated I think that will be "inappropriate".Churchill abandoned Bomber Command at the end of the War partly due to the furore over Dresden which he (not Harris) demanded. He was a politician & his words will reduce the memorial to a political statement instead of a public memorial commemorating the unquestionable bravery (over years) of these men.Don't play into the hands of the mayor of Dresden.

  • Well done Robin Gibb ... makes me proud. Our ancestors freed Europe.

  • The RAF Bomber Command Time Capsule - remembering forever those who gave everything for us: So please visit bombercommand,com/timecapsule and upload your personal message to the Time Capsule or simply make a donation.

  • all bomber pilots are bloody murderer! fuck them!

  • Yeah Mr Gibb and what about a memorial for the German Luftwaffe how would the British people react if the Germans decide to commerate their bomber pilots for their attacks on London and Coventry etc etc.

Bomber pilots from whatever nation are villified for the simple reason that CIVILIANS WERE KILLED ON BOTH SIDES !

Listen to what Tony Robinson program on the effects of bombing by the Luftwaffe on the British people it achieved NOTHING ! Except the MURDER OF INNOCENT CIVILIANS !

  • @ddm3542

Those who trot out the same old attitude of vilification towards these brave men, will I suppose act in the same way if a memorial to Servicemen who have been killed in Iraq or Afghanistan is planned . Or will they perhaps not be brave enough to pop their heads above the parapet, in case they get lynched?

  • Irrespective of who drives this project forward, it needs to happen, my father was one of those people .. and when he came home he said we simply disembarked from the boat were given train tickets to (in his case Strathfield) he took the train ride got off the train at Strathfield threw his kit bag over his shoulder and walked home...that was it.. I have paid my money to the fund to build this memorial...

  • @rojpix You should be proud - he was a hero. It's unbelievable people equate the bombing of the nazi machine with the unprovoked attack by Germany on the rest of Europe. Those who defended us saved many many millions more than the unfortunate who were caught in the crossfire.

  • I hope you've all donated to the memorial! No use saying 'Here Here' and then waiting for someone else to do it. Take a leaf out of the boys you've just watched, get off your arse and go to it... at least you won't get shot at!! ;)

  • Well said Robin Gibb! It is indeed morally repugnant that successive governments have evaded the issue of recognising the role & sacrifice of RAF Bomber Command. It's about time this country gave recognition to the young airmen who carried the fight to the Third Reich- 55,000 never made it home. We should honour these men & show our PRIDE in them.

  • we must get this done thanks robin and all that have helped so far .keep it going ive a great intrest in this for many reasons

  • This is a noble enterprise. I had no idea that Robin was involved and I do hope that this happens at least for the sake of the 55, 000 that never came home. They were good men doing a terrible but necessary task that helped win the war.

  • those people gave their lives for our freedom they should have a memorial

  • Robin Gibb made me laugh in this video when he said, "...but I'm not here today as one of the Bee Gees...". Robin has such a sexy deep voice. Anyway, I do hope there will be a memorial set up for Bomber Command.

  • Good for Robin Gibb. What a very good and noble thing to do, supporting Britain's Bomber Command squadrin during World War II. People who have immense wealth should spend money wisely, help charities and others and not waste it on substance abuse and rubbish.

  • Good for Robin. Standing up for men and women who made the ultimate sacrafice for their country. Be proud of your country Robin. Be proud of them and the ones fighting today.

  • i am glad robin gibb is sponsering the men of bomber command bacause my father got killed in the war and i do not think people should forget what these young men did for us

  • ...long over due memorial for WWii....hope things get off the ground...
