  • Aww DR.Larry Miss him, Vikis going to heaven one last time hope she sees her sister Meredith,.

  • can someone tell me where this bridge is? the opening scene. thanks!!!

  • this is the best one life to live theme past and present

  • OLTL will be cancelled in january 2012.

  • @jmjfanss please dont remind me :(

  • @musicman301

    and it's the truth sadly.

  • @jmjfanss yeah :( but hey we still got the memories to look back on and also im curious to see how ti will end in January

  • @musicman301

Can't wait until Peabo Bryson plays that OLTL Theme song one last time.

  • @jmjfanss either that or the 1995-2004 piano theme on the piano

  • @musicman301

Maybe the 1980's early 90's theme would be better in orchestra.

  • @jmjfanss yeah true but whichever one that they play in the final episode i will enjoy it

  • @musicman301

But sadly they will play the usual OLTL Theme.

  • @jmjfanss yeah but One Life to Live will air its final episode on January 20, 2012

  • @musicman301

and it's gonna end with a bang.

  • @jmjfanss yep and if you are watching the show now its getting really good and OLTL is the number 3 soap in the country right now

  • Tina Lord at 0:05. everybody was in love with Tina Lord back in day!

  • what city is that? Harrisburg, PA?

  • @anthonisaac I think I read somewhere that Llanview is supposed to be based on Harrisburg

  • @krystlerita Originally, when they had thought of the name of the town, Llanview was supposedly a suburb of Philadelphia, and was allegedly based on the real-life Chestnut Hill area of that city. Not sure on that one, though.

  • @anthonisaac Yes, it is Harrisburg. :)

  • I like this version better without the singing and I guess the images are what LLANVIEW is SUPPOSE to look like

  • Most of these actors are no longer on the show. I actually met Michael Storm at a soap show in my hometown of Newburgh back in '83.

  • i only recognize four people out of this

  • I loved seeing the scene of Viki & Llanfair....she is OLTL

  • Surely OLTL's best! I was an ATWT fan back then so I missed so much of OLTL and AWorld. These 3 were always against each other.... What kills me about this time (70's & 80's) is that ALL the shows seemed to be at their game -- all at the same time -- for years. Now, they're all crap -- all at the same time -- for years. I don't get it! You would think someone would eventually put a good show on again. I keep waiting, as I'm currently daytime dramaless.

  • DR.LARRY RuLed

  • one life to live ruled in those days. People tell me it ruled the 70s too. It was still the best in the 90s with young and restless giving it a tie. It aint too bad now but its nothing like what it was.

  • Pamela Shoemaker (as Clover Wilde) at 0:19; she played Shelley Franklyn on "Edge Of Night" from 1983-84.

  • Carmaker, did you know you can remove some of these immature comments from you vid. People are having personal flam wars on here

  • Oh the good old days of OLTL - how I miss them. I started watching this show in high school (70s) then stopped watching in the early 80s then started again in 1987 and continue to watch now but nothing beats these classic episodes on YouTube.

  • I bet Clint Ritchie and Phil Carey are both turning over in their graves at the state OLTL is in now. The Buchanans MADE OLTL back in the day. Rest in peace gentlemen. Your characters brought so much to the show. You are both sooooo missed!!!!

  • So true. Who could forget when there was a memorial service for Asa, who was declared legally dead after vanishing off the Florida coast, only to be staying in an ordinary woman's house for a few days, then going back to the Buchanan mansion where he stayed in the bomb shelter (with Brad Vernon as his right-hand-man!). Then Asa shows up at his own funeral and all hell breaks loose. Or when Asa took over ownership of The Chronicle and had two heavies beat up Clint in his own office! RIP P & C

  • REST IN PEACE CLINT RICHIE:)

  • love it!

  • ive missed 14 years of one life to live, can someone get me caught up.thanx

  • You really don't want to know. Just keep your fond memories of the show. Its a mess right now. I won't get into all that is going on right now but Marty has amnesia and his being held by Todd and now the two are falling in love.

  • OMG!

I never thought I would see or hear this again! Thanks so much. I was only 6 years old. Mow Im 29! Time flys. Thanx

  • I Miss The Good Old Days! Were's Dr.Larry?

  • She's Back On One Life To Live as Tina

  • I never get tired of this theme song!

  • I remember when I was just seven years I would tune my TV channel to the station that was airing OLTL just to hear this theme song, that was 22 years ago and I still consider this theme song the best soap theme song ever; And this song mean a lot to me because it remind me of happiest and best moments of my life.

    Thanks Carmaker1 for posting this!!

  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE this opening! I hate it when they added the words in 1988

  • I don't really find fault with his comment. Because I think Valentino's comment is more a testament to how GOOD the orchestration of this theme is, than necessarily a slam on the vocals. Sometimes I remember wishing they would occassionally play just the instrumental version during the opening, just for some variety - and for the fact that the orchestration, even on its own, is a really good example of a soap theme song. This (with and without vocals) exemplifies OLTL at its best! :-)

  • I think in between late 1985 and the early parts of 1986, the people at OLtL were probably experimenting between the instrumental and the vocal versions to see which one worked.

  • They actually added the vocals in 1986, just months after this particular clip's first airing.

  • that's was the best soap opening ever!

  • I totally agree......you have to follow the words,...they are so true......

  • i haven't been watching oltl for very long. i just started watching it less than a month before they switched from the blue and yellow background to the current theme music. i've noticed that even in the short time that i've watched it it's gone somewhat downhill.

  • and how do you think the rest of us feel who have been watching for over 20 years? LOL

  • when one life to live used to shine boy how the show has changed and not for the better but I think andrea evans is coming back as tina so maybe that will help return the show to its former glory

  • Where did you get that information?

  • I vaguely remember words being sung during the opening.

    It brings back memories though

  • same for me. reminds me of my early childhood (pre-school and kindergarten) days...when my mom used to be hooked on abc soaps

  • that was the greatest time of OLTL. that few years from about 84-87 was so f'n awesome. id love to get a dvd collection of those years! tina, cord, suade, mitch lawrence, ursula,oh the list goes on!!!

  • Next year, One Life to Live celebrates its 40th anniversary.

  • Andrea Evans was HOTT!!! back in the 80's

  • What soap is she on now?

  • She was on PASSIONS (NBC)

  • Ah, yes when OLTL was at the top of its game in not only its theme song, but its characters and stories. I cannot stomach the show now ... I say we all write TPTB and complain vehemently ... it is sad to watch a show you know that was so successful come to the current state it is in now

  • I miss these days. I really do.

  • Now that is a soap opening.

  • one life to live used to have good strong characters and the most unbelievable storylines but now days its lacking so much it used to be my favorite soap opera.

  • no its not you everything was better about one life to live back then thats show has gone to the dogs literally

  • Opening from '85 reminds me of the "Dallas" theme.

  • I think it's more along the line of the St. Elsewhere Theme.

  • That's because this theme's composer, Dave Grusin, is in fact the composer of the St. Elsewhere theme.

  • really...that explains

  • is it just me or is this theme better than OLTL's current one?

  • you're not imagining. Don't worry, this is better than the current version.

  • It is most definitely not just you. I may have actually shed TEARS when they switched to the "Dove Bar" theme right around the time Megan died. :(

  • All that incredible scenery but in reality show is shot in a old armory on W.66 St. NYC.

  • Thank you thank you THAAAAANK YOU for adding this. I don't really remember most characters on here, but I vaguely remember some of the shots, and remember the whole instrumental version of the song. I did check out Peabo Bryson's version. He sang very well, but I like the instrumental version better. But Peabo Bryson singing was an excellent contribution. I'm ALL for updating stuff, but man, some stuff were meant to be left classic style.

  • This IS from the last update in 1985 (these credits debuted almost exactly a year earlier, in late 1984 - with a less sophisticated orchestration of the theme song). The next update - at this time, OLTL seemed to update the cast on a quarterly basis - occurred in February of 1986. The Peabo Bryson lyrics were added, and most notably Bo was taken off.

By the way, a correction to the description: these credits were used until early 1992, well beyond 1988.

  • This is from 1986.

Some of the characters featured in this opening wasn't even on in 1985.

  • I have a December 1985 episode that used this exact opening version.

  • Oh, well maybe they didn't update it for awhile at this time, because according to TV. com, Robert S. Woods "Bo" left in 1984 and didn't return until 1986.

  • Nope, their updates were timely.

The deal is that, if that is what TV-dot-com is saying, they're wrong: Bob Woods last appeared for this stint on OLTL in January of 1986. He returned in early-1988.

Between his two OLTL runs, he played Paul Stewart on Days of Our Lives, 1986-87.

  • I miss this too!!! I used to watch it with my mom during the summer when it was too hot to play outside like when I was 4 or 5...HAHAH!! I miss TINA!!! that was like a big deal was to see her....but glad she went back to Passions! even though she kinda was a hot mess on that show too haha

  • The old themes were unigue to each show. Now they are generic. They SUCK.

  • didn't they add in lyrics

  • Yes, Peabo Bryson's lyrics were added in there about a year or so later.

  • They were added to the very next update actually, a few months later.

  • wow i remember this...i was only 4 or 5 around this time but my mom was a big abc soap fan.

  • same with my mom.

  • I miss this opening sequence... :(

  • Awesome. When Andrea Evans was causing trouble as Tina. Those were the days

  • I dig this theme. I noticed that all the old themes were banging, but now the new ones are..... STUPID!!!

  • i wil admit, it reminds me of the St. Elsewhere Theme.

  • I remember my mom being hooked on ABC soaps during the 80s...I rememebr the theme to All My Children then and this is the only One Life to Live theme song I know

  • This is from 1986.

  • No it isn't.

  • Those were the days when the soaps were good!!! Thanks for posting!!! I loved this show when I was growing up!! I still try to catch up on holidays!!!!

  • I remember this. Then they got rid of it for that stupid one w/ the champagne and the girl getting felt up. What a waste.

  • I remember this. Then they got rid of it for that stupid one w/ the champagne and the girl getting felt up. What a waste.

    That was horrible.

  • I know. Now that theme SUCKED. No power, no punch, and no visuals. But then again, the storylines around that time were about as bad, too.

  • I know. Now that theme SUCKED. No power, no punch, and no visuals. But then again, the storylines around that time were about as bad, too.

But certainly better than most of the junk today.

  • I love this opening!! My grandma used to watch ABC soap operas back then, and I would always stop playing with my toys when 1PM came and had to watch this opening every day. Thanks for the memories!!

  • I Like to see alll of the 1984 to 1992 OLTL Closings from that era.

  • OMG!!! LOL!!! SOOOO OLD, I was just a little guy, but I remember sitting watching this with mom when the opening credits were like this

  • me too...my mom was more of an All My Children fan, but this theme song was better

(I just wish I was old enough to remember seeing Rick Springfield on GH)

  • i know, me too! i vaguely remember the opening sequence of GH and i always picture the guy who played edward quartermaine. but that's when soaps were soaps. maybe it's cuz i was a lil kid but they were just cooler.

  • Could someone upload that 1984 opening of OLTL with syntheizers

  • Great Opening. I remember it so well. For me, it come a very close 2nd to The Young and the Restless 1988-99 Opening. I prefer the one the vocals as well.

  • I love the one with VOCALS! I used to sing that all the time!

  • Hi thank you for posting that opening theme it brings back soooo many memories.I was wondering if any one has old episodes of One Life To Live from the 1980's, some of the ones I would love to see posted are the ones of Maria, Tina, Megan and Spring Skye performing "Those Daytime Shows", Eterna, Tina and Maria struggling over the bottle of poison, Maria kidnapping Tina in the car and many more.

  • One of the Greatest Openings of All Time.

  • I remember this one! Thanks for posting! :)
