@Minidrags They used LSD in the 60s as a therapy tool, but of course our government swooped in and shut it down. Also ecstasy is also useful in therapy. Hallucinogens are really misunderstood. They take you into a whole different realm of consciousness and thought where one can use this to their advantage and delve deep into themselves. The introversion is very nice and most of the time something positive is taken out of the trip even if you have a bad trip.
@The1andOnlyCG I tried it once was mental went on for like 18 hours. Maybe didn't induce an epiphany though salvia on the other hand i did a couple of times in university a while back, had one trip where i fell through space and time to a stage where i was very young that was quite epiphany-esque felt very profound afterwards... then i went to sleep. Remember kids don't do drugs.
@cal1234567 It isn't uncommon for people to revert back to thr way they were ask a kid or have the mind-state as they had as a kid while tripping on numerous hallucinogens. I'm pretty sure NeuroSoup has a video about her using DMT and experiencing something similar.
Me neither, how exactly is this disrespectful, he is merely trying the drug that the 'tribe' he is apparently disrespecting has given him. Its called a documentary, its where real life and experiences are captured on film. And as far as documentary makers go bruce parry is pretty damn respectful and open to everyone he meets.
@FrobblOo there is a difference between lsd and a guided journey with a shaman. the effects of acid are not nearly as profound or enlightening as these drugs.
I feel like I've had very similar thoughts while tripping as this dude. People often assume that psychedelics turn the user into a mad man but they can often open doors in one's mind, helping you see from another point of view. I feel that those who reject psychs are only doing so because they are afraid of what they might find behind those closed doors.
I think that what the government is trying to do to us is enough to make anybody hallucinate; we have to stay as sober and lucid as possible, and, granted that we need some relaxation in order to assimilate reality by scaping from the daily grind, it is good to drink some red wine (even Jesus did that) or beer or tequila with friends and/or go dancing
this guy is an idiot, wasting his brain & health for the sake of a youtube and us, the bunch of fools who comment this; "big secret"? big bullshit; the people who use hallucinogenics end up checking into old video stores thinking they are back in the 60s
@1Urganda1 completely incorrect. I have taken many types of ethnogenic hallucinogenic plants and unless you have done the same your comments have no validity. Its not a secret its THE SECRET. However they are not for the weak ,lame ,or lazy. What are you afraid of?
@1Urganda1 its not wasting his brain. this drug is not harmful or life threatening, its a natural substance that has no long lasting effects. the only people that say stuff like you are people that are scared of trying things just beause the government has forced them into your mind as 'illegal and bad'.
@smithysproductionz Taken in excess, anything is harmful to the body....but I would rather take something that has come naturally from the ground, rather than something manufactured...
You are playing semantics here. By the definition he gave, all of those substances are included. However, the way we use 'drugs' in the real world has a completely different context.
@DR000 You can't have it both ways. If you want to play the "context" card, that's precisely why I objected to a sacred iboga ceremony being described as "tripping on drugs", because those words have a certain contextual resonance to most people that is completely inappropriate for describing what is happening here. This might be culturally-specific; for example here in the UK the word "drugs", outwith any strict medical context, almost always means recreational chemicals, not medicines.
You can despise me for playing the semantics 'card', but it is clearly the case here. People need to be mindful of cultural differences, as opposed to getting into silly arguments.
@DR000 The people who use hallucinogens regularly ( at least the people I know, myself included ) tend to do it for the cathartic/theraputic qualities of the experience, as opposed to "getting fucked up"
There are plenty of drugs out there that can make you feel really good, forget your problems, boost your ego etc.. without forcing you to reflect on the nature of reality, existence, love and suffering..But those drugs are rarely of any interest to the psychedelic community, and vise versa.
i was on ibogaine twice.the visions are intense and applies to each individual and can last for 24hours or more.will be taking another maintaince dose soon.ex heroin addictt
This dude could have went straight to the hood and did the same exact thing ... Like it or not .... Disrespect or not ... sacred or not...puking all over a dirt floor and out of body experiences doesnt sound like sacred fun to me.Screw that.
@Bouchon211 yeah..."go to africa and find a translator to talk to the natives" it is really easy -.- ... it was easier if i could just buy it in a store with all ingredients
@jimmyshitbags - How is Bruce Parry a loser? He runs his own TV company making millions and gets to travel to the most interesting places on the planet. He seems to have an incredible life.
how fucking dare the BBC treat the traditions of these people with such disrespect. Iboga root is not only sacred to these people, it has also helped thousands of heroin addicts to become clean.
@themilkmister referring to a tradition which is thousands of years old as "tripping on mind altering drugs". it's disrespectful, sensationalistic, and makes light of a sacred tradition
@Bjarku Actually Iboga is bullshit. I tried it to get off smack, shit doesn't work. I went to Africa to do it with a couple other of my fellow dopers. Iboga is useless for the cessation of drug abuse. You are a fucking cunt, talking shit on the BBC about something you know absolutely nothing about.
@Bjarku WTF...seemed to me they were very respectful to their traditions. Even the crew stepping outside when asked. Thought it was a great respectful coverage of it.
Just imagine trippin out your tree while in a remote village with not only a language barrier but a civilisation barrier too, it would freak me out man. Bruce Parry- What A Legend!!!
I have watched every programme he has done. The amazon was a brilliant watch but i am also enjoying the one that is on at the moment. He is in the Artic, i found his time in Greenland very interesting, the way the greenlanders are trying to keep their hunting traditon whilst the modern world is moving in. Now oil has been found it will not be long before it is destroyed.
@TheKitty1603 The whale hunting and the one in Nome was a good episode, hes across Canada now isnt he? , he really is a legend, the oil is damaging everywhere though and that the main man in charge was part of a indian tribe himself i think
This Is Ibogaine i did this drug to get off of oxycontin and H and omg it was INTENSE the trip wasnt a hig what so ever but it changed my life and since that day i havent used once and its been over 2 years during my trip i would assume the people i had hurt during my use and could feel all the pain i dish out in a condense version it was amazing after but during it was HORRABLE but ti changed my life and i havent used since its a powerfull drug and should be legal and not ever abused its a gift
I think every person should be allowed to do these drugs with the help of a shaman under supervision at specific ritual places. I would go. It'd be better than finding days when my parents are gone all day.
@ImRoflolpwned no it was neither, it was the iboga root from the babonga tree.. im not sure what chemical is in it, but it's not one of those two, it looks alot less enjoyable than mescaline lol
@Robbo1YNWA It isnt at all a nice drug but tis crazy the way he discribes his trip was JUST like what i had well on the drug to get over my addiction to Oxy i still talk to my docter that recomended this to me and help me find a person to guide me the most amazing and worst time of my life but it changed how i live now and no other drug has ever done that to me like Ibogine.
I find this pretty amusing that BBC British tax dollars go to work sending this man around the world to get high. The BBC should know the most powerful refined drugs can be found in East Brooklyn where I recommend he embark on a vision quest with the urban tribes of mixed descent. The US boasts the largest estimated illegal drug market of any part of the world.
The "bad trip" was an experience of self discovery, that one trip was probly worth several years of psycho therapy in terms of self awarness and growth.. Imagine how much better the world would be if everyone had the experience of feeling how their actions effect other people..
The title of this clip is completely inappropriate. Iboga, ayahuasca etc are not "drugs", and the term "tripping" has connotations of recreational use that simply do not apply to the ritual and sacred use of these plants which Bruce took part in. I feel it is disrespectful both to his experiences and to the shamanic traditions which have used these plants constructively for millennia.
@elibeth06 Irrelevant. The term "drugs" is commonly understood to mean synthetic compounds, which these are not, and when coupled with the word "tripping", no-one is going to be thinking of medicinal drugs.
@jammin023 They are drugs. The definition of drug is "A substance that has a physiological effect when ingested or otherwise introduced into the body". Tripping could have that connotation you mentioned, however I think the video itself does a fair job explaining the phenomenon.

I feel it is disrespectful both to his experiences and to the shamanic traditions which have used these plants constructively for millennia.

@jammin023 unfortunatly do you think as many people would of watched it if it were named other wise?

@jammin023 you maybe are ones of the person that just hear drugs and think about ellegal drugs -.- honey drugs are also know as medicine
elibeth06 1 year ago
@elibeth06 Irrelevant. The term "drugs" is commonly understood to mean synthetic compounds, which these are not, and when coupled with the word "tripping", no-one is going to be thinking of medicinal drugs.

@jammin023 shut up you big fucken baby, do you really think that tribe is going go on youtube out there and find that disrespectful?
TheClintorious 9 months ago
@jammin023 They are drugs. The definition of drug is "A substance that has a physiological effect when ingested or otherwise introduced into the body". Tripping could have that connotation you mentioned, however I think the video itself does a fair job explaining the phenomenon.
