  • To ibenazjem. The fifth chord of a key is mixolydian providing you play the parent scale over the top of it. For example the fith chord in G major is D so there for play the G major scale over a D chord and you get mixolydian. Understand that it is the harmony ( chord progression) that dictates how a melody or solo is perceived. don't worry about modes just learn the major scale all over the fretboard. if a backing track is modal then your solo will be modal. There's no escaping it unless u god.
