Not a Turbo engine, definitely no GT2 RS...Someone who calls himself turbobungle HAS to know the difference between a turbo- and a high reving engine...
The fact that this $250K GT2 RS and the $90K Nissan GTR both have around 7:24 on the 'Ring has proven that the 911 is no longer a VIABLE model as Porsche's flagship. It is the mid-engined Cayman/Boxster that has a fighting chance against the GTR and the Corvette ZR1.
@unknownunknowns are you kidding? you must be joking. I love porsche but a stock corvette eats both the boxster and the cayman let alone the ZO6 and the ZR1
@calicav84 Then give me the performance figures of STOCK Corvette. Even if this is the case, I don't see how the 911 is any better when price is factored in. Just to note the $75K ZO6 got 7:43 and the $135K GT3 RS got the same on the 'Ring. I understand the CERTAIN models of the Cayman/Boxster can't compete with the ZO6/ZR1 but that's why they need to be upgraded.
@viasevenvai Sure I understand the numbers alone don't tell the story but countless of reviews claim the Corvette is easier in steering than the 911. However, steering in the Corvette is number than in the Cayman, which is why I don't see the point of Porsche keeping the 911, unless you can tell me why. I wish Porsche could knock it off with all of these 'variants', like the Cayman R and Boxster Spyder, where they make them more sporty and more UNCOMFORTABLE!
@unknownunknowns Have you ever even ridden in a 911? I wouldn't even compare a boxster to a corvette.
Porsche makes variants just like any other manufacturer. The Pontiac G8 is what a Chevrolet Camaro is...there are tons of examples of how companies are worse than Porsche at using mix and match parts. You don't see the panamera engine in an Audi....at least i don't think so. Who knows, it could use the same block.
If your concern is comfort go to Bentley or Aston.
@viasevenvai Actually the Cayman has been compared to the Corvette and it seems close or a little better. Now, I see more engineering improvement opportunities in the Cayman than the 911 b/c the engine in the middle gives it a better weight balance at the corners and you can put a 5.0L instead of turbocharging to incr reliability OR just a 5.0L twin turbo to maybe make 800hp. It might be done by expanding the wheelbase w/o hopefully interfering with the balance.
@viasevenvai B/c of these increased engineering opportunities, you're LESS LIKELY to sacrifice comfort. I don't know about you but for me, I want a WELL ROUNDED car of sportiness, comfortability, and to some extent reliability, as in order to drive and own them I need to PAY so I want my investment to be WORTH it.
This is the EDO 996. Why are you intent on refusing to label this properly? Just because it causes an uproar? This whole thing is nothing but a troll attempt. I could play this with my eyes closed and instantly know this is not a GT2RS.
And llss882, put up or shut up. There is only one PRODUCTION GT2RS, and that is the 997. If you have proof otherwise, then by all means post a link to a reputable source.
@jhbonarius well it depends on a track and the rules some of them you can overtake on the inside and on the outside as well some of them only on the outside.
@llss882 I bet you a new GT2 RS that there has never been such thing before. check out the wikipedia site of GT2´s or Porsche HP, you wont find anything!
@sjs2011 Look at when the video was uploaded. This is an Edo tuned 996 GT2, which was called GT2 RS. Why should it be taken off youtube or have its title changed?
However, I think that this video should have '996' added to the title to avoid inconvinience!
Excuse my ignorance but I was under the assumption that Nurburing was a closed track, am I correct or is it a public access road. Can any one who has actually driven the Nurburgring apart from me please raise their hands. Any person who can lap a GT2 in around 7.30 bridge to gantry on a public open day is a professional race driver and to those who have said dont like his lines, you try entering Schwedekreuz at 170mph over a blind crest and a concrete wall on the other side if you get it wrong for real. Twats
Agreed. Been three times. It's a brill track and anyone who can drive a widowmaker (sorry GT2) that quick around the 'Ring deserves respect! I got 9.55 in a Leon Tdi 110.
DO you even know how to drive? That comment would suggest not. The game bears no relation to actual driving and the Ring has killed good drivers as opposed to dillusional gamers.
I suppose you think you'd be a shoe in for the special forces cause you can play Call of Duty Modern Warfare.
@SoreHead11 Yeah i no how to drive kid and shoe in for the special forces haha probaly since i've been a Marine for 5 years and my MOS is 0317 and your GT4 coments funny because a half decent NASA Driver played GT4 with a ford Gt on Leguna Seca race track his first time ever on the real track in a ford GT he ran within 30 seconds of his actual time on the game and i grew up racing on a dirt oval which is alot harder then driving a paved track
@streetpunk83 Driving on a dirt oval is a lot harder than driving a paved track??? So driving round and round in one direction is harder than driving a mix of turns, cambers, hills etc??? That's the funniest thing I've ever read. Round and round on dirt is marginally harder than driving round and round on tarmac but they hit decent speeds at least.
Almost as funny as all your convenient claims.
Cart/F1/Touring car etc are infinitely harder than any form of oval racing.
@SoreHead11 sliding sideways around a track at 80mph in traffic inches apart from each other without wrecking your car is anything but easy and have you ever been in a cart/ touring car? I've driven an Arrows F1 car at Homestead Miami for the Formula F1 drive that they have there cost about 6 grand for the day getting to drive a Ferrari and F1 car in the same day was alot of fun and with as well as the cars handle i'd take on the nurgburgring Them cars are driving perfection almost easy
To be fair. Like Chevy with the Vette, Porsche have had plenty of bloody practice with the 911. I'd like to see them improve the interior of the Vette. It wouldn't add much to the cost at all and would lift the whole experience. 100k aint cheap in any car so it deserves the full package with a decent dash and materials and especially a decent set of seats that don't wobble around like they're not attached. The outside is spot on in my opinion.
@SoreHead11 I like the vette minus the plastic and the crappy seat and i hate the mirrors on the doors on the C6 they bother me while driving i like the big clunky mirrors on the gt500 they work better and there clearer
To be fair they are at least the ultimate iteration of the technology and it seems to work for them although I believe that a non trained, ordinary driver would struggle to do decent times if you look how hard any pro drivers are working when they're doing fast laps in Vettes. Looks like hard work.
@chrisross2343 i dont like oval racing on a paved track its boring oval dirt track is fun and its not easy and 30 seconds from a video game to reality isnt bad when you consider the fact that the guy had never been in a ford gt and on his second lap was inside 30 seconds
if PGR is the most acurate repersentation of real racing then there is nothing even remotly close to real racing simulators out there. the only person in the world to ever hit below 7 mins was Niki Lauda, the only person ever to lap the full Nordschleife in under 7 minutes (6:58.6, 1975). obviously your full of shit or PGR is not the most accurate racing simulator out there. so your 6 flat is nothing but BS.
now why dont you shut your 12 year old trap and let the adults talk now...ok?
reply im sorry that was running the entire Nordschleife back in the 60's and 70's with current track size and modifications to its theres still only a handfull of drivers to beat the 7 min mark but NON under or close to the 6 flat mark
you got that right!!! watched this vid over and over again if Patrick Simon didn't stepped OFF the gas he would have crushed this Subaru!! truly fast car and driver too....greetings from Holland...bye
awesome. I believe under 10 mins is good, under 9 mins is very good, but under 8 mins makes you a driving god. The most amazing this about watching this is that it is for real and not a computer game where you can afford to make a mistake. My hat is well and truely taken off to you !
Obviously you were never there. This is a full tourist lap with the drive-on at "Doetinger hoehe". Takes almost as long as a full lap. Besides that he did a real full lap in this car without tourist traffic in 7:15min.
Amazing. Theres no other word for it the Nurburgring is hands down the fastest and most dangerous track in the world. I heard they stopped having F1 there because it was too dangerous. Incredible. It takes balls of steel and racing instinct running in your blood to not piss your pants doing that much speed in those fierce corners, let alone live. Does anyone know of any other in car footage of the Nurburgring in F1 or GT3 during a race?
As you can see he is driving on a tourist day. It is 15 Euro per lap. You can only drive with a ROAD LEGAL car, that means no slicks! As far as i know the edo has 542hp.
POLE! Now that was total comitment. I 'd say shave another 10 seconds off that lap time if there was no traffic in the way i.e typical poxy b.m.w and merc drivers who dont know when they are well and truely outclassed!
My neck hurts. This porsche does not have the horsepower issue. I believe some speeds were very close to 200 mph. Nurburgring is an excellent course and this made me feel incredible. Thanks for the upload, I do want to see this again.
herrlich!:-)

streetpunk83 1 year ago

@streetpunk83 Driving them isn't the issue. It's driving them to their full potential that the hard part.
We seem to have gotten sidetracked here though (probably my fault. sorry bout that)
The original thing was a suggestion that the ZR1 would be faster than the GT2RS. Not in a million years :)
SoreHead11 1 year ago
@SoreHead11 The GT2RS was designed to take chevy down a peg and i think it will Porsche's are unbeatable
streetpunk83 1 year ago
@streetpunk83 I wouldn't go that far :)
SoreHead11 1 year ago
@SoreHead11 I like the vette minus the plastic and the crappy seat and i hate the mirrors on the doors on the C6 they bother me while driving i like the big clunky mirrors on the gt500 they work better and there clearer
streetpunk83 1 year ago
@SoreHead11 do you like the leaf springs too?
chrisross2343 1 year ago
@chrisross2343 At least they're Carbon Fibre :)
To be fair they are at least the ultimate iteration of the technology and it seems to work for them although I believe that a non trained, ordinary driver would struggle to do decent times if you look how hard any pro drivers are working when they're doing fast laps in Vettes. Looks like hard work.

@streetpunk83 30 seconds is a long time mate and oval racing is fuckin stupid
chrisross2343 1 year ago
@chrisross2343 i dont like oval racing on a paved track its boring oval dirt track is fun and its not easy and 30 seconds from a video game to reality isnt bad when you consider the fact that the guy had never been in a ford gt and on his second lap was inside 30 seconds

Big deal. In PGR 3 I can put down a 6 flat.
We all know PGR is the most accurate representation of real racing... where's my medal?
TheMachRider 5 years ago
if PGR is the most acurate repersentation of real racing then there is nothing even remotly close to real racing simulators out there. the only person in the world to ever hit below 7 mins was Niki Lauda, the only person ever to lap the full Nordschleife in under 7 minutes (6:58.6, 1975). obviously your full of shit or PGR is not the most accurate racing simulator out there. so your 6 flat is nothing but BS.
now why dont you shut your 12 year old trap and let the adults talk now...ok?
curexcult 5 years ago
reply im sorry that was running the entire Nordschleife back in the 60's and 70's with current track size and modifications to its theres still only a handfull of drivers to beat the 7 min mark but NON under or close to the 6 flat mark

The guy in the Subaru must have soiled his pants when he looked at the rear view mirror....LOOOL...I know I would have :P
Tenebrae666 5 years ago
if i knew this GT2RS was on the track i probably was looking in my rear view mirror ALL THE TIME!!!...ciao

you got that right!!! watched this vid over and over again if Patrick Simon didn't stepped OFF the gas he would have crushed this Subaru!! truly fast car and driver too....greetings from Holland...bye
glorys6 4 years ago
awesome. I believe under 10 mins is good, under 9 mins is very good, but under 8 mins makes you a driving god. The most amazing this about watching this is that it is for real and not a computer game where you can afford to make a mistake. My hat is well and truely taken off to you !

It wasn't quite a full lap. I think that the actual lap time would have been another minute or so longer.
HanssOfff 5 years ago
Obviously you were never there. This is a full tourist lap with the drive-on at "Doetinger hoehe". Takes almost as long as a full lap. Besides that he did a real full lap in this car without tourist traffic in 7:15min.

i love the nordschleife!

DarkBrute 5 years ago
Can anybody with a car drive the Nurburgring now that it's closed to racing?
PerhapsToast2 5 years ago
As long as the car has license plates, yes.

Watch his even faster nordschleife record (for road legal cars) video on www.edo-competition.de!

That is a full race car on slicks. i wonder how many HP that thing has (600 min. I'd say). Amazing driving.
jakeom3 5 years ago
As you can see he is driving on a tourist day. It is 15 Euro per lap. You can only drive with a ROAD LEGAL car, that means no slicks! As far as i know the edo has 542hp.
newbeee2 5 years ago
POLE! Now that was total comitment. I 'd say shave another 10 seconds off that lap time if there was no traffic in the way i.e typical poxy b.m.w and merc drivers who dont know when they are well and truely outclassed!
DJassal 5 years ago
cool! very fast ;)
punkbuddha 5 years ago
Oh what i would give for the chance to take any moderately fast sports car around that track.

My neck hurts. This porsche does not have the horsepower issue. I believe some speeds were very close to 200 mph. Nurburgring is an excellent course and this made me feel incredible. Thanks for the upload, I do want to see this again.
