I was reading in my history book how this song helped slaves get a secret message to cover their tracks through the water to escape. So inspirational, I love this song!
I Love this rendition.. .I've sung it several times with our praise band and this brings it to life in a that I've never heard it! Thank you so much for bring this song to life in way that brings me a lot of joy!
I'm sitting at my kitchen table listening to this and swaying back and forth in my chair. It's cold outside and there's snow on the ground, but I'm ready to go down to the river and get redeemed. This version is generating more heat than a burning building.
I love it too-recall seeing a documentary on The Band and they showed a live clip of the Staples Singers doing this song--but the tempo was much slower--sounded awesome (looked like it was from the late 60's/early 70's)...wonder if that's on record or if anyone knows what I'm talking about? ;)

I had never heard this before but, I really like it. I wish we would sing it instead of "take me to the water" on baptism Sunday

This version is smokin! I do wish there were more of it. Thank you God for leading
people to keep this glorious song alive. May every Church (God's Lights) continue to
sing for The Lord's glory & keep the voices of slaves where ever they may be in the
world alive. & Harriet Tubman (mama Moses) forever my/our hero forever in heart!

Wish this song wasn't clipped at the end. Wish poster would include the whole song. Otherwise, nice job.

Absolutely great music. Neither christian nor African-American, but this music is just brilliant.
