  • Love it

  • AMAZING!!!! LOVE IT!!!!! THANKS sarah7589 for posting the song.

  • this just completely blew me away

  • I was bias to Chris Cornell's performance, I admit it. However, the credits give props to CC for the arrangement and after listening to this, I was more than happy - and I was hugely skeptical going into it. Great version, I truely enjoyed listening to it.

  • lulu otiN!!! WoW

  • MJ's version is better than this one!!!

  • @littlefingers nope.

  • is there anyways you could send this song to me for my ipod? I cant find it on itunes :((

  • nada. no me gusta.

  • Respect.

  • scheiß cover ! shit ! MJ 4EVER

  • any idiot from anywhere in this world knows this 1983 song was written by Michael Jackson. If you don't know or not sure, just google like any uneducated idiot does.

By the way, posting the lyrics is another ridiculous attempt of showing the mediocrity lack of knowledge; this song's lyrics are as popular as singing the ABCs..

  • oh my God what a song!!!! I love the King's version but this is a great version too.....

  • David is so original! He rocked this song.

  • damn so amazing song!!!! Congratiulations from romania!!!

  • outstanding!

  • HELLO to all the IDIOTS bashing on DAVID COOK!...

NO DUH this was originally Michael Jackson's song.

NO DUH no one can ever compare to Michael's greatness, David wasn't trying to out-beat michael.

NO DUH this is chris cornell's version of Billie Jean

and NO DUH, chris cornell gave david PERMISSION to copy his version for American Idol...

    do some research.

  • Chris and Micheal would be proud..

    Absolutely stupendous!

  • amazing...just amazing...i neva knew billy jean cld sound anytin like dis...truly amazing

  • Guess no one noticed that before he sang he said he is doing Chris Cornell's version. He never took credit for the arrangement.

  • honestly in the end who honestly cares you has an awsome voice and if you stole it, good for him, he probably sings it better anyways, and at least he did it justice

  • This is most definitely, positively a Chris Cornell version. He did do it justice though, not his idea..but beautiful nonetheless.

  • If I'm not mistaken I believe Cook go this version of billy jean from Chris Cornell's, former STP vocalist acoustic version which was release on 2007 I think. He just changed it a bit.

Search for Chris Cornell Billy Jean and you'll see. Still sound good though.

  • not knockin ya, just wanna make sure people aren't mislead.

Chris Cornell wasn't part of STP (Stone Temple Pilots)

He WAS a part of SoundGarden and, later one, AudioSlave... actually, I shouldn't use pass tense when speaking of SoundGardne, now should I? - THEY REUNITED!!! =D

  • and... if it counts, Cornell was also a part of the project album, Temple of the Dog, an album dedicated to the late Andrew Wood of MotherLoveBone

  • Love it! Love David Cook!!

  • anyone can sing a song the same...the point of a cover is to change soemthing and make it their own. It's kind of sad that David Cook, instead of ACTUALLY being inspired by a great song and making a great song, simply regurgitated a cover already made by an artist... if he WAS inspired by MJ, a very creative artist, he himself would have tried to be creative, instead of just mimicking Chris Cornell. Too bad, cuz he has such a great voice...

  • Too bad his real album didnt rock this hard :-/

  • this is a wonderful version.

It is fantastic to have the beautiful original from Michael and two beautiful rock versions from Chris Cornell and David Cook.

It shows that a great song + great artist = magic .I love this!!

Thank you ,David for making something this beautiful.

  • This just shows how much a inspiration Michael Jackson was, look what he did,David Cook was inspired and did this song and straight killed it,amazing

  • @normanx15 chris cornell gave him permission to copy his version.

    duhhh?

  • nah man david's inspiration was chris cornell david sucks!

  • I have to say that David Cook was so inspired by Michael Jackson that he did this song and put so much into it and he straight killed it,amazing, this is proof that Michael Jackson was a huge inspiration, look what he did.

  • I appreciate what this man has done to great music. All those who think he mocks MJ or the Beatles, look at it this way. This is what will make many kids discover MJ or the Beatles. Plus he breaths life into a song that, when covered, always falls flat because no one can rival MJ in his style.

  • I really like this version, and I think I like the style of it better than the originalm but you're right. I definitely looked up MJ's version because of this, and found lots of his songs that I do like.

  • I like MJ, but this is talent.

  • i like this ver better then mjs xD

  • Why do you speak English this way? Are you from another country or planet?

  • Ok there is too much going on here. I'm just here to say that David Cook and MJ are two different artist in music. But one thing that I have to say is that I have never heard no one sing this song like David Cook did. It was amazing and I think this performace was the one that got him to win American Idol. Anyways he did and awsome job....but MJ will always be MJ, regards of what happen in personal life...MJ is and will be the king of POP...there will never be anyone with that talent......RIP

  • Chris Cornell did this version of Billie Jean before David Cook.

  • Comment removed

  • both cook and jackson have there own ways jackson was speedy and exciting cook is slow and strong this sound nothing like billie jean but is just as awsome as michael jackson but michael is a better dancer but otherwise its 50-50

  • You got to be joking ???

Michael Jackson is nothing compared to this guy. This Cook character has alot more power than Michael Jackson ever had.

And further more, this guy will keep his nose in place...

  • stop it... friend.

M.J is already dead. stop making a statement that will hurt so much other peoples heart.

by hook or by crook MJ still the first person who create this song.. and David Cook love MJ too.

he cried when heard the news MJ was dead. Respect it.

  • fuck people are reatared. im not a fan of american idol shit BUT david cook has an amazing voice. i want to hear the voice of whoever is bold enough to actually say that he sucks haha. i dont care if you think the "great " MJ is better but nobody has the right to say that david cook sucks. im sure alot of you would freak out if i said that MJ sucked (which im not a fan)

  • this is nice but mj is alot better ;)

  • this is such a copy of Chris Cornells verzion

  • that's because it IS chris cornell's version...

  • Cover of a Michael Jackson cover. (Cover of Chris Cornell's cover of Billie Jean lmao)

  • david cock

  • hilarious - i'm sure all your buddies in the 6th grade think you are funny.

  • thanks for proving my point.

  • your welcome =]

  • its a nice tribute for michael....RIP michael again..

  • this is one of the most amazing things I'd ever heard. Every one that says something else do not know any thing about music. I do not know if I like the first BLLIE JEAN is better - and guess what? His voice is way better then OK!! It's so amazing... I love BILLIE JEAN. I love that David Cook, and I love M.J - Also BILLIE JEAN IN AMAZING

    See you all

  • You're a fool...

  • Wow... with voice like that he deserved... winner

  • HIs voice is beautifully showcased and I love how he commands the performance. Great sound. Listening to it is wonderful. one of my favs for sure. :)

  • i think ur crazy

  • Both versions are good I don't have a favorite.

-The Thepocalypse Fallout Boy SUCKS, almost as bad as the Jonas Brothers. DEAL WITH IT!!!!!!

  • me encanta esta version pero cada uno con su estilo

  • MARY j. BLIGE'S VERSION OF "ONE"...BETTER

  • I like this as much as the original.

Also, Fall Out Boy's version of Beat It was better.

    DEAL WITH IT

  • i LOVE songs that are remade and sung by new people. i like to hear how a song can be made into different genres. i love both versions!

  • He made one of the best songs in the world horrible

  • i love this cover, it gives the song sorrow that's missing from MJ's.

  • Come on guys.... This version is really good, Michael history is there to inspirate people.

Like Bob Dylan on Guns n´ Roses and Rollig Stones.

I think this version great, but not better... Still Great.

    RIP MJ

  • this song can be changed from Billie jean to debra rowe

  • this is great!!

  • i loved michael's version, but i liked this one so much too! i don't even know whos i liked more!

  • You love michael's more.

  • i never liked this before.now i love it.

  • WOW..Impress, Impressed, very Impressive...billie jean in a heavy rock version..cool

  • I like that

    David cook is a genius

    SHUT THE FUCK UP EVERYBODY.

    We love michael jackson

    but david is a genius.

    thank you, goodnight.

  • This is a good song and David u did good RIP MJ u will never b forgottenwe luv

  • I know I will probably get hate posts/mail from Cornell fans now because of my comment but enough is enough. Cornell DID NOT WRITE THE SONG and DOES NOT OWN THE SONG. I am sure AI has a blanket license to re-arrange meaning permission is not needed from the arranger which is not to say that they may not be compensated. Unknown to me & very complicated. Maybe he was compensated by David recording & releasing Light On which is now very near platinum.

  • It isn't that at all, it is just David Crook, I meant Cook, said he did the arrangement. That is what the fuss is about. He should have given Cornell the credit and not claimed it was his own.

  • David Cook definitively NEVER ONCE claimed the arrangement as his own and has stated that in interviews several times Also,It was originally introduced by Ryan "Here singing Chris Cornell's version of Billie Jean is David Cook." You can't get any plainer than that! The "fuss" as you call it is all generated by misinformed Cornell fans who didn't bother to watch the entire performance beginning to end.Who does or does not own the rights is irrelevant as credit was given to Cornell to start with.

  • Check again. Ryan did not state it until the next show. He had to say it the following night b/c AI got in trouble for not stating it before David sang. They had to do a little side interview with David to state that it was Chris' version. I don't take issue at all with him singing that version nor do I take issue with him. I take issue with the folks who's only argument is that David Cook comes up with "original" versions of songs.

  • By not stating that it is someone else's arrangement, he is in fact claiming it as his own (AI rules clearly state that). He has to have permission to use someone's song and/or version of a song.

  • I hope you all know that this isn't David Cook's version, he actually ripped off Chris Cornell's arrangement of this Micheal Jackson classic. This was written by Chris Cornell, and was used with out his permission.

  • I wish you Cornell people would back the fuck off! It was credited to Cornell at the time during the intro when it was performed on Idol. Idol is all about singing other people's songs. Idol gets approval from the SONGWRITER for every performance not the ARRANGER. Arrangers don't get the royalties but do get verbal credit for the version. Also, don't blame David if his version is more famous. He sang the SHIT out of this song and you know it. I am sick of the whining by Cornell fans. Jeez!

  • Whoa man. . . calm down. I just wanted to make sure that was known. That's all. Listen, I don't mind that David used Chris's arrangement, and niether does Chris Cornell himself (he was actually flattered). We just have a problem with the fact that Cook was priased as "original" for having done the arrangement. And please don't say "David's version", for there was practically no alteration of his performance from Chris's arrangement.

  • Sorry to blow a gasket on you but after a year and a half of this crap it gets old. "Original" came from one of the judges who was clueless as usual and people listen more to the judges than Ryan's introduction. Also, since MJ's death, I have seen twitters from CC fans upset because the press is citing David's version of Billie Jean. I WILL say David's version because legally ANY variation makes it a new arrangement and it is not note for note, either on vocals or musical arrangement. Done.

  • That's bullshit. The only variations David did were little fills here and there that are native to playing a song live. For the most part, David played Chris's version note for note.

  • Preach it man!

  • Right on, Love36214!

  • Written by Cornell? Not hardley. It is a Chris Cornell arrangement - that is not the same thing as having written the tune.

You might also chill for long enough, to consider that DC's choice of the Cornell arrangement is a compliment.

  • Okay. . . Here's the problem: I never said anything was written by Cornell. In my last two posts, I've never even used the words "wrote" or "written" or even "write". So, I don't know where that came from. And if you think about it, If you listen to this version (Cornells, not Cooks), and MJ's version, they're practically different songs, so there was some writing involved, just not of a new song.

  • Your words: "This was written by Chris Cornell, and was used with out his permission. "

The term "write" is used to describe the person who "wrote" the music, the lyrics or both. Since Cornell's "arrangement" was a derivative work of the original, he had no rights to it at all. No one was required to ask his permission for anything.

So, Cornell came up with an interesting arrangement (I actually like it better than the original) and DC used it. DC sang it well and people liked it. EOS!

  • thats awsome but i still thnk michale is better=-)

    R.I.P

    Miachale

    rock heaven=-)

  • And also, Idol isn't about singing other people's songs, it's about making money. it's all a scam.

  • I know the lirics are off... when I did this vid (a year ago) when I cupied and pasted the liriks. the end of every phrase disapeared. so use your imagination and read it as you want

  • He is very good, but nobody's bether than Michael Jackson. XD

  • Salut Sarah,
