  • Dude, where the hell are the dynamics? I like it, it's just it's sounds bland.

  • The piano player looks like a zombie at 2:45.

  • hi

  • he bends down so he can bow and turn the tuning pegs at the same time; he holdes the scroll on his knee.

  • excuse me sir but why in the world are you bending down when Tuning xD?

  • nice play bro

  • Its funny how the top comments contradict on the intonation of his performance

  • WOW FANFUCKINGTASTIC!!!!!! you are so amazing i wish you could teach me to play this song!!! i love violin it my one and only passion ... you have gave me confidence to learn this song!!! !♥♥♥♥

  • im about to play this song at my recital... ahh!! but i think im pretty good :). Any tips for how to play the second to last section???

  • Please: Follia

  • ... not enough v v v v vibrato ... and they shouold have got the harpsichord out of the junk room !

  • it was great except for the person or persons coughing throughout your performance. How rude.

  • @hpept ive been playing violin for 5 years plus an added 5 years of piano it took me a little under 2 months to play this piece, but there is a reason that it is in the 6th book. the first portion alternates between first and second position because it is all on the a string, i personally would wait a little longer before taking on this piece because it is quite challenging

  • How long did it take to learn the whole piece? I´m relatively new to violin and I would like so much to learn this music but it´very hard. I can play (really bad) only the first three movements (1st page of Suzuki method).

Is the beginning played in the 2nd position?

  • @hpept

Yes the beginning is on the A string until bar 17. Perhaps try going a few books before. This is a hard one though. I'm pretty new as well.

  • The title is spelt wrong...it is La FOLLIA with two Ls not one.

  • @MrMusicomane no its with one l look it up before pretending you know anything

  • @tentoes2 The composer is Italian, therefore it is spelt with 2 Ls. It is a common Italian word FOLLIA meaning "Madness"..... it is not rocket science. (I don't speak Italian ...I am Italian)

  • @tentoes2 by the way, it looks like you are pretending to know it. If you have some conscience, this should embarass you now...ignorante!

  • @MrMusicomane oh im sorry how long have you been playing violin? or better yet how long have you been playing this song? im currently 13 and have been playing for 10 years sooo... oh but wait, you' re italian and im only looking at the music right now. i only go to peabody. what would i know?

  • @tentoes2 Ok that shows how childish and arrogant you are, and even ignorant. This kind of talk is not from a 13 years old who wouldn't have this malicious arrogance and stupidity. We are talking about the spelling of the word, I had nothing to say about the music itself! I play Piano and Guitar but I don't need act like an Idiot, get humble otherwise you'll screw up yourself even more.

  • @MrMusicomane wow you really need better come backs. and learn which words need capitols. and learn what you are talking about. and stop making assumptions that you have no basis for arguing. and learn that you really need to know when to give up instead of trying to defend an untenable position. and i could go on but there is a character count and i don't want to spend too much of your extremely important time.

  • @tentoes2 Ok, fine. You really made me understand. I have nothing else to say as I am speechless towards so much ignorance. Just forget it.

  • @MrMusicomane anyone who faces me in the proverbial arena always ends up crying in a corner

  • @tentoes2 Technically, if you're going to criticize one's spelling and punctuation, you should yourself follow your own advice. And for the record, a "capitol" is a place for state legislature and a "capital" is a type of letter. (Please see Google web definitions for reference.)

  • the tone quality is great for a place with so much carpeting. Bravo. But it is true that the timing is just slightly off. There is also very slight intonation problems, leaning towards the flat side near the beginning. Also, it seems a little robotic. All in all though i like the piece and it was rather well done. Bravissimo!

  • Me encanta esta pieza... ^^

  • As a matter of curiosity, is there any reason you were bending down while tuning? Just curious, other than that, I'd like to address your critics by pointing out that in an environment such as that, it's extremely hard to get a full sound

  • how long have you been playing?

  • Very good... :D Only section I thought would be the section 4:00, I play this piece and the dynamics and speed are different. A lot of counting was off. Besides that... great shifting, great performance... hope 2 see you again! :D

  • I played it once. top played too fast. In the second part should be more separated. is extracted in the third, fourth finger. Fourth was playing too violently. and those double stops. at a slower pace hit you in the good sounds. and this type of errors committed. but beyond that all was not so bad. just maybe the vibration of the Train a little bit.

  • go die cuz u think ur da shizz

  • @3flipkiller DUDE!

  • try adding more emotion to your piece and you are rushing the song a bit. try to feel the song and go with the flow

  • whoaaaa :D that was really nice

you should acknowledge the audience more sincerely when you're done playing. it seemed like you were running away from them :P lol

  • i love the pianist style :)

  • Very nice job!

  • I hated that piece in high school.

Your interpretation is quite different from mine (read: my violin teacher's). As others have said, the intonation needs work, but I've heard worse. Work a bit on the phrasing, too.

Not bad, though. It probably sounds better than my final solo performance in high school (different piece, though), even if it could use a couple more months of polish.

  • I think its very difficult to play in front of ANYBODY so well done for this performance-

  • @cjh600 EXACTLY! :-) When I would play for my church, everybody loved it and gave nice comments and those who did music said I have great intonation even if I'm unsure of myself for being nervous.

  • It's very good, but it's too rushed.

  • your intonation needs major work. try going through it very very slowly, Your timing is occasionally out. Try to use more dynamics more effectively.

  • pretty good overall. on ur adagio and other slower sections make sure to play them slow.. i noticed u were playing them quite fast.. give the notes their full worth. also watch intonation especially on the faster sections. good work on your chords.

  • Very nice...kudos!

  • it sounded like the suzuki violin book 6 cd ;o very nice...im learning this song atm...im on the last page..its taken me like 2 weeks...:|

  • and great vibrato!

  • I think you did a great job, especially in front of that many people!!

  • wow, everyone is really critical of this! i'd like to see all of them play it better. i thought it was good.

  • some intonation issues but really need to watch your wrist. And you also get a better bigger sound if you play with your violin parallel to the floor.

  • the intonation is a little shaky, overall your preformance is good, you didn't stay together with the accompanist especially in the 3 and 4 variations. your 4th variation seems a little to fast for you, the 6th variation was played to fast and their double stops were a out of tune. The 7th variation's 32nd notes were a little shaky

  • You started speeding up a bit at measure 65 but overall you were really good.

  • that was really good! watch your double stops and intonation, but overall you're a really good player!

  • wow, you're really good.

  • 2:58-3:05 ... What are those chords?

  • nice job!

your stand was a bit, naa, a lot too low

resulting in your violin being at a low angle pointing to the floor

    otherwise, it was pretty good

  • Good job, your vibrato has a uniqueness to it, wouldn't really call it good but it isn't bad either. No offense but you might have wanted to wait and practice this a while longer before playing it for a crowd. Watch your intonation, bow, scratches on the string, and put more feeling into it and you will pretty much have it down. Oh and watch the double stops in the song too those are really important!

  • The only thing i would say, is that your going too fast. Might i recommend you slow it down a bit. Especially at the beginning. Cheers.

  • amzing your a prodigy compare to me

  • lovely job; thank you!

    mb

  • good! I'm learning to play this song. it's one of my favorite

  • rlly good im learning to play this song tomorrow wit my friend! and this rlly helps for me to hear it

  • Greate playing, must've taken a lot of practice! I really want to play this too!

You could've taken a longer bow at the end - they we're clapping for you!

  • dont get nervous! you remind me of me :/

  • I love the tuning part at the beginning... you did a fairly good job boy. good bow control, but your left hand fingers are stiff.loosen up your right hand thumb, and do vibrato on every single note.this will relax your fingers.

  • i love it!

  • the little finger on your right hand is very stiff, and not round enough. I have got the same problem, it's hard to change it, if you played like that for a long time...

  • I think this is really good. It's a great song. I would just say slow it down in the beginning a little. It's supposed to be a very emotional part.

  • i think your position of your left hand is quite wrong. be more relaxed: your vibrato, the changes of position and the agility of the fingers will sound better.

(I played original follia at the age of 10, then I can give you theese advises)

  • are u using a head rest? cos to improve your vibrato u need to hold up your violin a little higher. also work on your position changing as in some places its a little off.

    - i give u points for standing in front of everyone and playing :)

  • vibrato?

  • Well if you're so good, why don't you put up a video of you playing the song? I thought he did alright, but if you're better, I'd like to hear you play.

  • your vibrato sucks work ON IT AAALLOOOTTTTT

  • your left hand is wrong but I love this, you can tell you enjoy this. a couple spots were a little rushed, but you got back on. all in all really nice work.

  • This is one of the Suzuki songs that I still enjoy playing! Well done!

  • more VIB and stay with the piano on the Allegro moderato. dont rush. try not 2 pull your bow at the end of phrases. the at the end were a lil fast.

  • nice job overall. you might want to get a bigger violin, yours looks a little small. agreeing with celiacgirl809, listen to yourself. thats something my teacher tells me to do all the time. you were a little off on the timing her and there, but you were mostly really good.

  • who's edition is this? i think i have peterson, but i must check that. it's not bad... but i like mine better...xP just kidding. anyway, good work.

p.s: work on your vibrato... if you relax your arm, it will sound much better...:)

  • I suggest smoother shifting. That would improve the tuning and sound more dignified (Things just sound better dignified, don't they?). Work on that vibrato.

Overall, better than I could have played it. I envy the tuning on the double-stops. Magnifico!!

    Is this Suzuki?

  • Is this the suzuki version? Nice job! Next time you play, try to implement the use of more dynamics. Memorizing a piece will give you more freedom to play with emotion... I learned that the hard way... don't let the scroll fall, I know it reduces the stress on the arm, but then you can't see your finger placement. Oh, and don't let your wrist collapse! It only makes it harder you to play. Overall, you are doing a nice job! Keep up the good work!

  • dove sono finite le variazioni 3,4,5,e quelle dopo la sei sono state brutalmente cambiate. Il pianista sta accompagnando Corelli o Paganini?

  • when did u start violin?

  • is a difficult piece!

technical is ok , but you need to feel it, play it with more feeling....

another important point is that they both are playing on wrong instruments....modern violin and piano.....

but still congratulations...again is not a easy piece.

  • Make sure you are listening to the piano... It seemed like you were relying on the pianist to stay with you.

  • Well, first I wanna say, that you did it good. It's fun to play it, but it's not easy. I play it myself right now.

    But I have some comments:

You need to learn to follow the rhytm 3/4. In some frases you go too fast.

Hold up your violin. That would look much better. The person that plays on the violin needs to look elegant. And it would help you when you're playing..

  • i worked on this song for around 4 months, while working on other songs too, and I am so sick of this song. I just did my concert last weekend. It is pretty good.

  • why are you looking down when tuning?

  • Firstly, fabulous. I personaly think that you should not hurt a person's feelings, from the first.. but never mind. Anyway, this piece is rather difficult..

I just wanted to make a 'few' points.

    1. More sound- go nearer to the bridge, that'll make more noise..

    2. Though mentioned, raise your violin higher.

    3. The place after the fast position, and the place where you first get the accord, you need a little more space between each sound.

    Otherwise.. cOOl.

  • im learning this peice and i have to say pretty well done

but the beginning and several other parts were played to fast to be able to really appreciate them

also ur bow is crooked:) but only on the up-bow

  • i saw the bow thing too...

  • just a couple suggestions,

    1. when tuning, don't bend over, stand up. the last thing we want to look at is... well you know.

    2. hold your violin up! you'll have a much better sound if you do.

    3. watch intonation on the double stops.

    4. please more expression. this is a very emotional piece.

try using sttacato spiccato in the 3rd variation. in like the 7th variation or so, try using spiccato on the downward runs.

  • very nice, i remember this was the very first piece i played for solo&ensemble. took me to state this piece did.

  • ehhh it was o.k. i have played this peace and you have to very emotional with it. Try to make your vibrato a litle bit wider, if you know what i mean. overall, just get more INTO the music. it will make it sound a lot better. good luck!!!!

  • that isnt that good srry

  • aren't you supposed to tune before concert. a little too fast sometimes and this is the suzuki version. otherwise well played for a difficult piece.

  • he did tune.

  • @irulz66 .. idk what people taught you, but you always check tuning before performing. Better to tune in front of people than be out of tune... that's all.

  • @hsile12 Estoy totalmente de acuerdo

hasta los grandes violinistas lo hacen

  • Why a piano!? They had not been invented yet in Corelli's day!

  • @ThisDream .. yeah, what part of highschool didn't sink in?

  • @ThisDream HIJO DELA GRANDISIMA PUTA

  • He is very good, I think... the pianist was a little fast sometimes at the tempo change.

  • im about to play this piece, but im going to do so poorly on it bc i played level 4 last yr and im skipping a level just so i can try for all-county!

  • well, i didnt like it, cuz he doesnt have any interpretation and didnt assimilate the time i think that if he think a little bit in the music he can play something cuz the music isnt only the notes.

  • What the hell? Is this the Collegiate school? What are the odds?

  • He didn't really stop in the middle of it; there's a little break at that section. I wouldn't have done that, though. Sounds pretty good, but he seems kinda nervous. Keep playing!

  • leave him alone. he's realllyy good

  • Really could have used some ornamentation I think. Is this the suzuki version?

  • Maybe it is a poor recording, but the vibrato so muc to rapid!

  • I am about to learn this piece myself. I would have excluded vibrato all together because this is such a baroque piece. You could focus on shaping the notes with your bow strokes and less with vibrato. Great job all toghether!

  • aww man..you played the 8th note section too fast! it's supposed to be 2 times faster on the 16th =/

  • more feeling man! and yea it did need a lot of work

  • good job, i love this song. i think it was a little to flat sounding tho. you could have maybe done a little more experimenting with dynamics and stuff. maybe its jsut the recording tho....

  • the pianist looks really bored lol

  • what ???? he stopped playing to tight his bow !!!! lol bad move.. but still u played well ;)

  • awesome job!

    soo sexy :]

  • Nicely, nicely done. Anyone reaching this level of competence in high school has a bright future.

  • you should not have played it - it needs much work

  • I love this piece. Very fun to play & you did a good job
