@Felix2011ish lol xD ...yeah it would be weird if the master were the doctor's brother, but they've come so close to saying it in the show so many times that they might as well just come out with it and reveal SOMETHING about their past, right? even if they're not brothers, couldn't they atleast be like cousins or something?

I agree, it might be better if they just settled the whole thing once and for all.

The way that the relationship has been developed though, it probably be best if they clarified that they are not brothers, and established what if any family connection they do have (eg cousins).

IMHO, though, it's not necessary for them to be related in order to account for their connection and history. It seems to have been one idea once considered, long ago, but that's true of a lot of Who.

i think they should be related, even though they don't really need to be, or there should atleast be some explanation, like maybe they were both really attached to some person who died or something, you know? because there's sort of some connection there that they haven't given a reason for. like the way they act around each other that sorta existed before they started fighting that's never been explained properly. who knows, maybe they were a former couple? (scary and unlikely)

@ocdturtle Don't be scared :), many people believe they were a former couple, based on the very behaviour you've observed. That's what I meant about their 'connection', likewise.

There's nothing to make it unlikely, either, since the Doctor's past is so mysterious and full of gaps.

But there are a lot of things that Who doesn't like to say explicitly, since it's a family show and they don't want flak.

@Felix2011ish well, with a certain slash fiction audience, everybody has the potential to be a couple. and it's actually perfectly reasonable. did you hear the bit in 6.04 where matt smith sort of 'suggested' he may have had, um... relations with that transgender time lord. that sorta suggests that, while the doctor is straight, time lords change genders so it really would be perfectly within the dr who limitations to suggest they were a former couple although it would be a bit... weird.

I didn't really get that Smith might have got it on with the other TL, though I've always thought -- from the little that we know from the show -- that human categories of sexuality just might not apply to the Doctor and his compatriots.

Anyway, I'll stop overcomplicating this great video now and let everyone watch in peace. :)

@ocdturtle Well, good idea, but I think RTD prevented that from being canon in both The Sound of Drums and in The End of Time Part 1-2. There's a lot of evidence in there for them NOT to be brothers. And I personally don't really mind that. :)

@ocdturtle Well, i guess it depends on the viewer. I just kind of see them as best friends (or best enemies) that ended up on different sides. But I have no problem in seeing something deeper in their relationship. Even if I don't see them as brothers, it's still a possibility, and as you say, you never know with Doctor Who, even when they say something straight out. I still respect everyone's opinion on them. ;)

@OttselSpy24 Well, yes, it was kind of hinted in the old series, but never made canon, and then when the new series came around RTD basically went 'No, screw that idea, let's make them frienemies and/or ex-lovers instead!'. :) Not that I have anything against it. I think that people who do take over the show must be allowed to put things in, and since it never was made canon it's ok.
