To me the documentary obviously left out a ot of the black experience becuase as a whole black people are a lot more dynamic and diverse. It was meant to be an attempt to show some of the black experience. You may not have identified with any of the stories show cased on that program but many of us can. You can't show case the black experience in just a couple of shows. This should be an on going series!
I agree that we are all different and have different experiences but to be black in America is a unique experience. I don't think this show was for us black people. I think it was for white people to get a look at how black people live. I think the show only presented the problems and the negative aspects of the black community. There weren't enough solutions. I think Spike Lee would have done a better job.
As you know, Black in America 2 is scheduled to air on July 22 and 23. Apparently, a lot of black viewers said the show was suspiciously tilted towards the negative, and BIA 2 is supposed to highlight more positive activities taking place in the "black community."

Well said. I was wondering the same thing. What's the point of an entire national series on being 'black in america?' One goal that I see through that is 'divide and conquer.' CNN will never make a series on "being white in america". The so-called whites are in most part from Europe (britain), so why not make a series on them? Answer: to keep them united and make us bicker and argue over nothing while they go bombing countries to divide the spoils of war among them.

CreoleInDC It wasn't meant to lump up the entire black experience. To me the documentary obviously left out a ot of the black experience becuase as a whole black people are a lot more dynamic and diverse. It was meant to be an attempt to show some of the black experience. You may not have identified with any of the stories show cased on that program but many of us can. You can't show case the black experience in just a couple of shows. This should be an on going series!

I agree that we are all different and have different experiences but to be black in America is a unique experience. I disagree with you that being black in America is the same thing as any other race. You are obviously omitting historical facts to make that statement. The fact that many blacks are still letting white media define what being black in America is is a good reason that this should be an on going series so we can further define what being black in America is for ourselves.

Soledad O'Brian does the negative (Black in America) segments with so much excitement and glee. Her already high pitched annoying voice goes up a notch or 2, especially when she has a negative piece on black men. I would advise those who want to see these type programs discontinued, to please send an email to CNN AND Ms Soledad. As long as ratings are through the roof though, we can only expect to see more of this garbage. Some negroes are so glad to be featured on tv, they'll say and do anything. I don't think this show was for us black people. I think it was for white people to get a look at how black people live. I think the show only presented the problems and the negative aspects of the black community. There weren't enough solutions. I think Spike Lee would have done a better job.

As you know, Black in America 2 is scheduled to air on July 22 and 23. Apparently, a lot of black viewers said the show was suspiciously tilted towards the negative, and BIA 2 is supposed to highlight more positive activities taking place in the "black community."
I also read that CNN is currently putting together an *Hispanic in America* special that will be aired later this year (maybe November).

I totally agree. The Black in America documentaries are perpetuating the black stereotypes. All you see are drop outs, the jobless, baby mama drama, jail birds and poverty. There's really no such thing as Black. Its that we have melanin in our skin. "whites" just lumped us together fortheir own economic gain. Melanin is a very important factor in dealing with the sun's UV rays.

I feel you sister, I'm at an arts uni and I'm the only black woman on my course (who actually speaks in the lectures) and because I'm articulate and opinionated I "have to" "defend my blackness". Well said. I was wondering the same thing. What's the point of an entire national series on being 'black in america?' One goal that I see through that is 'divide and conquer.' CNN will never make a series on "being white in america". The so-called whites are in most part from Europe (britain), so why not make a series on them? Answer: to keep them united and make us bicker and argue over nothing while they go bombing countries to divide the spoils of war among them.

Coming here to the US form Europe ( were I had tuns of black friends from Africa) The black people, I knew were different, they shared smiler morals and the way they approched life.
