  • race, gender, culture, tradition, age ect are all constructed illusions that distract us from 'self' . Empathy of all people who are judge based outside of anything other than self needs to be encourage . I think the only way we can influence this is with 'ourselves'. Notice 'others' who are being judge or even ourselves who may be judging others based on something outside of the individual.I notice a fair few people debate by arguing for the other side of the same coin ......

  • I have many African Friends and they do not like being called black. For example, If they are from Ethiopia, then they like being called Ethiopian or If they are from Somalia, then they like being called Somalian or If they are from Sudan, then they like being called Sudanese. Do you get it??? :-)

  • worst video on youtube

  • Are you really 38? If so, you look amazing, teach me your ways!!

  • I know that call was faked, you aren't married, you're black...

  • We are not black (black is a color), just like Native Americans are not red (red is a color), and Asians are not yellow (yellow is a color), and Europeans are not white (white is a color) etc.. Do you get my point? Don't call us black American, because you might get your feelings hurt! :-(

  • @0102vuleak I like the Black label better than just American because it ties me to black people all over the world regardless of national borders.

  • I like this lady.

  • Great vlog, I agree with you 100%.

  • What about a show about the negatives side of white America,we will never see it will we?

these shows all have one purpose and its not to help the black community.Black people wake up,look deeper into the purpose of the media

  • Some black people have never had the experience of growing up from the ghetto... there's more hispanic people that relate to black folks in the hood than there are of black people from the suburbs who never experienced a day in the hood in their life... a lot of these blacks just know what it is to be in a white neighborhood and its just a proof of the fact that you are a product of your environment.

  • I got me sum skrimps right hurr LOL XD

    Great video.

  • CNN is ignorant. Which is why I never watch it...

I think this girl is just tired off all the black stereotypes. Whats with these captions tho?

  • Its all part of capitalism to make money off discrimination and racism sister, It bothers me too. Try to block it out and concentrate on your persnal betterment and what makes you happy.

  • The first Vid I've seen on here that isn't trying to provoke a black vs white or vise versa response. I wish there were more and people on both sides could realise as this woman does. The past is the past, those who dwell on the injustices of the past, won't have a future which is any better than that past! Doesn't matter if ya black or white all are people!

  • @kryckeestrooff I don't think she was saying to forget the past. That would make us destined to repeat it. I think she is saying, that we are all just people, who are diverse, even with the same ethnic communities and we don't have to lumped into categories that suit the mindset of the masses or please the media.

I don't think we should ever forget the past. It would be a disrespect to our ancestors to forget their struggle and hard work. But we still have to create a new future.

  • Nice to see an intelligent rant, someone who gets what racism is.

  • Dont you understand that the white media love to protray us in a negative manner????

Its called white supremacy. Its all designed to try to make us feel inferior.

  • @DONTA9231 portray....I'm sure it was a typo, but I feel you anyway.

  • cnn (the media) they always run those types of shows.

I think they just want to see if we are still alive after all the pressure they put on us.

the pressure is the fact that we have to make a case for everything little thing we do.

    hair-make a case, job-make a case etc.

  • lol...I want to be your friend! Well said.

  • baby, pass me da fried chicken

  • Youre kinda goofy, and its really cute ^_^

  • ajam, "you know" "you know", baby daddy, baby daddy, eating fry chicken and watermelon.

  • The "CNN in America" series sucks some serious balls.

"Here's little Johnny, he wants to be a basketball player"

"Here's little Shonica, she wants to be a singer!"

As if this shit couldn't be any more cheesy and stereotypical. The show does nothing for blacks, and does nothing to educate or inform non-blacks about blacks, & therefore renders the entire series completely useless.

  • @blahblahblahman Did you even watch the show?

  • if i was Born a Nigger' I'D Blow my Head off.

  • @ConfederateKlan Racist Bicth azz Fake azz Motha fucka. Get tha fuck outta here and get a life ass whipe

  • @ConfederateKlan In the words of Uncle Ruckus, "you've got to rotate your racist slurs!" In other words: Come up with something new! "Nigger" just does not have the same sting that it used to have. You are obsolete!

  • @ConfederateKlan Yeah! That's right! You're too weak to be Black, little winny! Get a life! Black people are overcomers, nothing can stop them, not even your confederate bunch of cocksuckers!!!!

  • @ConfederateKlan Blow your head anyway! Pale creature!

  • "cause you know us black people are 1 dimension, you can just put all black people in a box..."

Well if you listen to what black power people say thats how they see it to! Black power fools believe that all black people are the same. Until the black community stands up&distances themselves from them black people can't say they get pigeon holed, yall do it 2 urselves "why you talkin white?" "thats for white folks" "black folks don't..."we(whites) got crazies 2(kkk) but we dont except them anymore

  • I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND WHERE YOU COME FROM!!! I love it, keep it up!

  • They know it sells that`s why.Stupid bunch

    of MFs.

  • Word up Mama.I got a 40 oz. and watermelons,Fried chicken,n Kool

    Aid.

  • @Junior1luv just wanted to say that I agree with you whole heartedly. That is why im a Republican, at least they want to try to treat people the same.

  • "That is the story that I'd like CNN to look into."

THANK YOU! CNN totally missed the ball a la Charlie Brown!

  • (YOU KNOW)

  • Always had a concerned with humanity in general. Funny how other species as simple as worker ants can get along and work together; however the biggest waste seems to revolve around humanity which is full of anger and hate such an evil world.

  • Good points! As a woman who is black, I get tired of the nonsensical ignorance of people, the news and television shows too! I no longer watch television because of the idiotic stereotypes and lack of quality viewing. It disgusts me that black women are identified by hair! What about beauty, intelligence, hard working, persevering, progressiveness? I surround myself with open minded people because narrow mindsets (with a Ph.D. or not) are comparable to being diseased or limited (i.e. CNN).

  • creoleindc you are too sensitive. chill out am black and i think cnn black in America was awesome,

  • And I really don't care WHAT you think. Seriously...I don't.

Next time you comment please try and use proper punctuation and use all the words necessary to attempt to get your point across. Writing ish like this makes you look stupid. Sorry if that wasn't your intent.

  • @LouisFreind101 don't thank the earthquake, thank the white-devil, who made the earthquake, but payback a dog, says the lord////

  • I luv Monnie!

  • Why does it concern you? I am a mixed race woman . Sometimes I wear weaves while other times I wear my natural hair. I am not going put white women down, but you need to s top worrying about what others do especially when you are not paying for them to get their hair products .

  • Exactly. People are dumb.

  • No...let ME explain something to YOU. Anyone can do with their hair as they please and anyone attempting to make an argument on race based on hair is a damn idiot. You've disgusted me with your stupidity although it doesn't surprise me. The amount of dumb people on the internet hiding behind a screenname is comical. They gave you dumb azzes keyboards and all of a sudden you believe you're an authority on something. Goodbye. You're blocked. There is only so much dumb I can deal with.

  • No need for "even ifs" here dear. MY hair is real growing out of MY scalp.

I don't have to admit anything regarding Black women and their hair other than to say it's their head so they are welcome to do with it as they please. No one gives a shat that White women dye their hair blond constantly so why in the world should anyone give a damn about what some women do to their hair? It doesn't say a damn thing about them other than they wanted to do something different and have options.

  • ROFL! Now who's perpetuating stereotype? Um...my hair is ALL.MINE growing out of my scalp and it's far longer now than it was when I made this video. ROFL! Contrary to YOUR belief...Black hair grows idjit. You can't lump all Black people into your little narrow azz vision. WE don't fit.

  • CreoleInDC It wasn't meant to lump up the entire black experience. To me the documentary obviously left out a ot of the black experience becuase as a whole black people are a lot more dynamic and diverse. It was meant to be an attempt to show some of the black experience. You may not have identified with any of the stories show cased on that program but many of us can. You can't show case the black experience in just a couple of shows. This should be an on going series!

  • I agree that we are all different and have different experiences but to be black in America is a unique experience. I disagree with you that being black in America is the same thing as any other race. You are obviously omitting historical facts to make that statement. The fact that many blacks are still letting white media define what being black in America is is a good reason that this should be an on going series so we can further define what being black in America is for ourselves.

  • On this I agree and it was my EXACT point.

  • oh dont even go there girl, you dont know what its like to be...well to be um a red head ok. blacks whites pinks and purples look down on us, oh the pain of it all. atleast youre free! they still hunt us ya know, poor orangutan cousins.

  • What in the HELL are you smoking? Don't be dumb.

  • I wish I can count how many times you said "you know" but I don't have the time. lol

  • That was intentional dumb azz. You know?

  • she obviously don't get pulled over or harrassed.

  • You're right. I don't. And yeah...I can see how that can change your perspective if it's something you have to deal with regularly.

  • lol u funny

  • LOL. Very clever video, and your gorgeous-I'm speaking as an Asian guy.

  • Love the video.

  • Smart Woman!

  • ugly and stupid creatures are sharing the life of the beautiful and smart nation , its disgusting and shame , HOW DARE THEY ?

  • I'm confused what are you trying to say? are you speaking ill of black people or others who stereotype us? or are you speaking in general?

  • Are you a man?

  • she is soooo not hood

  • Not trying to be either.

  • Did you ever notice how black people constantly complain about this country?

But they never want to leave it.

    Ironic to say the least.

  • Have you ever noticed how AMERICANS complain about OUR country and yet they will never, ever, ever leave it?

Freedom of speech is something you should brush up on. Seems you need to brush up on the definition of CITIZEN too.

    You have been bitch slapped.

  • Where would they go? Africa dose not necessarily want them either, because they don't consider them to be African but American. Blacks were not ask to come to America, they were murdered, raped & dragged here kicking and screaming (literally). America like it or not is there country, it just sucks that there own country treats them like aliens.

  • America is and never will be Africans country. Africa is our homeland and motherland. Nobody has a problem with these European so called Jews and the rest of them in the world claiming that Israel is their historical homeland. As for as the propaganda spewed by the Europeans of Europe and America that our bothers and sisters in Africa don't like us Africans in the Americas is just plan and program from keeping us from uniting to take and secure our present and future.

  • There was a 500 carat diamond just found in west Africa this year. I have lots of friends from Senagal ,Ghana, Benin. They love us ! While smallminded people are trippin off of, They hate us ,we hate them ,vampires are sucking the precious minerals out of Africa living in luxury

  • not true. if you lose your passport in Africa, you are considered Africa.

  • @ladybott5 By saying all America treats them like 'aliens' is doing exactly what is pissing this women off. Your putting all america in one group of people...

  • We don't have to leave! We know evil when we see it and have experienced it!This countries base start and present has been pure evil toward mankind. Ask the natives of the Americas and the islands about their freedom of speech and rights. That's going to be very hard because they are hardly any of them left. Less than 5million for the whole Americas original indigenous people who haven't been mixed out.

  • we did try to leave, that was stopped(Marcus Garvey -Blackstar line), we also had are own communities and business but they, u know who, killed everybody it was called Rosewood they made a movie.Did you know so called African Americans are they biggest consumers and trendsetters. U think this economy is bad know if we leave it would really take a shit!Besides we are native to this land as well, contrary to what youve been brainwashed to believe! Clown!

  • I agree...

  • Soledad O'Brian does the negative (Black in America) segments with so much excitement and glee. Her already high pitched annoying voice goes up a notch or 2, especially when she has a negative piece on black men. I swear the woman goes into throes of orgasmic excitement whenever she has to report on African Americans and how badly most of them are doing. Soledad should just lay down and die with her self hating African latina- Irish? self, Ha!!

  • We have to keep an opened mind if we are to change these issues for the better. ridicule and gestures will not solve the issue.

  • Huh?

  • Brilliant observations!

  • I cant!....lol!!

  • im nothing like u and i thought that the docu was some bullshit cuz either they should a stereotype or the showed a black thats spends they life to show white people that good enough to sit next to them when there ARE MILLIONS OF US WHO BELIVE WHAT BROTHA MALCOLM WAS TALK ABOUT ABOUT TO GET ALL US BLACK PEOPLE A BETTER LIFE RATHER THAN JUST FALL TO THE WILL OF THE OPPESSOR THE US GOV

  • Yes I support cnn for putting at least some "black issues"on primetime no other tv network does it,cnn also has a lot of blacks on their network shows compared to FOX ,Al sharpton,Warren Ballentine and others,

  • i'm black and i thought black in america was fucking racist

  • If you think black in America is racist perhaps you need to watch glen beck,o reilly and hannity all day,and listen to rush limbaugh and michael savage all night.Shame

  • im white and i totally agree

  • hell yah and they made a second one lol and they gonna have latino in america in october they make it seem like black people are poor, dumb, and just out of luck and they put the ugliest people on camera :( i bet white in america gonna be 5 mins long lol

  • What show are you watching? Black in America has shown multible depiction of African Americans. I personally like the show.

FYI, no one wants to hear about white America. Too much of "White America", and if anyone who hates CNN for this, then stop watching.

  • well I hate CNN...They Dont even touch the Surface. Plus they Are Forced too Show things like this, when they dont want too...They Get Skin Cancer, We Dont!!!

  • In contrast to you,I am not at all offended by "Black in America",last time I checked Fox news has never done any programmes like CNN

    They have had specials on

    Barack Obama

    The assasination of MLK

    The Jena Six

and a lot of many other shows that are based on the black experience in this country

  • so u support cnn is what u are saying that crazy thats crazy they just as bad even worse than FOX

  • Even tho they had programs like this..theres nothing too praise about CNN..

  • I don't recall her saying anything to that effect. Although what you say could actually be true and has been proven to be in some situations. So good comment, I appreciate your honesty.

  • Miracle at St Anna? The movie is based on James McBride's 2002 novel of the same name and chronicles the story of Joseph Stephenson, who fought in the all black 92nd Infantry Division.

  • ????? What are you rambling about? How does he try to change history? I'm confused.

  • Well i don't agree with you everyone has a stereotype its just the way its gonna be we cant change this at all. They are also doing a show on Latinos. I liked the show I wasn't mad about it at all. Although I get where you're coming from i look at it as no one will ever understand what black people are like so that's just what it is when we start taking over and get serious with our education and what not them maybe people will start taking us seriously

  • You can't understand what "black people" are like because we are all different. Seriously...people can't keep lumping everyone into a group!

  • i also find it amusing. since obama became pres. the world wants to see what BLACK is like are you serious? when bush was elected did the do white in America cause i know some other skinned races that are doing really bad as well. like were alwating on a free check and have baby daddies.. GET over CNN and get real everyone is diff and stp trying to group a race.

  • I'm not optimistic at all about the future of this country, like you know?

  • I would advise those who want to see these type programs discontinued, to please send an email to CNN AND Ms Soledad. As long as ratings are through the roof though, we can only expect to see more of this garbage. Some negroes are so glad to be featured on tv, they'll say and do anything. What's next, black faces and white lips?

  • Amen, my sister! I agree. I am tired of this bull. This is a classic example of "blaxploitation." Black people know what they're going through in this racist country and other races don't care. So what's the point of the show? It is as if Blacks are trying to gain some type validation from the good white folk. See Massa, I go to school. I take care of my family. I have a job. We have nothing to prove to anybody except ourselves. I couldn't care less about what Mr. Charlie thinks of me.

  • PS I am a 20 somehting white guy who grew up in a mixed neighborhood and school, the longer we all focus on divisive crap and differences the more problems we have as humans!

    More kudos to you miss!

  • You are seriously my hero. I love your opinion. The whole thing is they are dividing us by race when we are really divided by class.

  • I am Jamaican and I am pissed by the sterotype.

  • hell yeah im haitian and in tried of it lol

  • They are using social psycology to drive discord between the races

  • I don't think this show was for us black people. I think it was for white people to get a look at how black people live. I think the show only presented the problems and the negative aspects of the black community. There weren't enough solutions. I think Spike Lee would have done a better job.

  • Greetings,

As you know, Black in America 2 is scheduled to air on July 22 and 23. Apparently, a lot of black viewers said the show was suspiciously tilted towards the negative, and BIA 2 is supposed to highlight more positive activities taking place in the "black community."

I also read that CNN is currently putting together an *Hispanic in America* special that will be aired later this year (maybe November).

By the way, I'm a *Creole in Boston*, but not nearly as cute as you. :-) Peace.

  • I totally agree. The Black in America documentaries are perpetuating the black stereotypes. All you see are drop outs, the jobless, baby mama drama, jail birds and poverty. It pisses me off to think they hired soledad o'brien who is not even black to represent the black experience. She's obviously telling the stories from the only perspective she knows and has been living which is the white/other experience. I seriously dont think she even knows any black people. And now there's a part 2??WTF??

  • Whites did us a favor by bringing us to America. I don't think I would like Africa. Too much war over there.

  • UMMMMMMMMMMM. r u black

  • You look totally South-American Native. I`ve seen some Natives from Peru and Bolivia and you look just like them.

  • Can i ask you people something? How many of you knew that Soledad Obrien was "black" before her special "Black In America"? And how much black must one have to honestly be considered black?

Im not trying to be rude-i just find it comical that CNN would use a person with very little black in her to be a spokesperson for black people. Her dad was white, her mom was part black, part cuban, her husband is snow white. She grew up and was raised white. How is she black?

  • How is she black...idnk but may be it is just a philosophicle thing like im white but i act black soo may be im black too

  • I think CNN used her as a buffer. She is a "safe" black. Not too black to scare people off as the "angry black woman",but black enough to have some credibility. Its a shame really.

  • i guess people choose what they wanna be

  • you go girl!

  • creolelnDC, you are attractive.

  • Personally this attention at times catches me of gaurd like huh! Finnished studying for my exams, this young brother got A's working on my post graduate and now people think I am going to be the next great Politician. No my admirers I want to open a Medical practice in Portland plus a Botanic herbal store with my potential future wife; that might be any lady out there.

  • Speaking of black people and sushi, every time I go out to the sushi restaurant the white people in there think I am coming in to rob the damn place! lol I bullshit you not, last time I walked in there to order one lady almost choked on her drink and the other dropped her chop sticks lol I think its cause I was wearing all black I dunno, but yeah this video made alot of sense and you said alot of stuff I have been saying for years, keep up the good videos

  • They don't do that to me. Because when I enter the sushi restaurant they aren't any white ppl where I am because I live in Japan. Where sushi comes from.

  • i like sushi

  • you know?

  • Uh oh, they pissed her off!

  • There's really no such thing as Black. Its that we have melanin in our skin. "whites" just lumped us together fortheir own economic gain. Melanin is a very important factor in dealing with the sun's UV rays.

Without melanin you're more liable to get skin cancer and die :c (

  • Why didn't they do a being white and racist in America and let's see what the real conversation would be.

  • Comment removed

  • We come in more shades than the spectrum dear visit Africa and you shall be blown away.

  • I share your pain.

  • Thank you, my sentiments exactly. The CNN Black In America is annoying. Its not because I am embarrassed to be black but it just seems weird.

  • funny how all of a sudden American got interested in black people after Obama was elected!

  • Personally I do not like the attention. Let us forcus on south America, drug cartels destroying people.

  • lmaoooo...

    VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV

  • You are not black.....we can tell by your skin color..you are mixed with something....so dont speak for real black folks!

  • You are crazy.

  • Define what a "real" black person is, pinkwrapbub.

  • I'm black and agree with everything that was said. Are you saying Obama is not black? I am not American, but I do recall America's 'one drop rule'.

  • My response was for pinkwrapbub.

  • By the way, I love sushi - lived and worked in Japan too. I am still black, as are the members of my family!

  • my hair is like hers and my skin is lighter ... im not mixed im haitian

  • I agree with you 100%

I'm 13 and I'm black (never had sushi but I LOVE CHINESE FOOD!!) and I don't talk like that lol. I live in the burbs (we moved from the city) and all the black people around me are ghetto fabulous and its just soo frustrating!

*sigh* I noticed that in that CNN special and many others that they mainly go in the South...

    HMMMM......

  • Sushi is the BOMB! good, expenxive sushi, though not mall or drive thru sushi..yuck

  • I feel you sister, I'm at an arts uni and I'm the only black woman on my course (who actually speaks in the lectures) and because I'm articulate and opinionated I "have to" "defend my blackness". I am who I am, I represent me, my heritage, my views. Fuck those confining boxes called stereotypes that keep people in their comfort zones. I defy those shitty expectations. I'm African.

Oh, and I also eat sushi.

  • I love sushi too and im black..i swear that tv special pissed me off. Not every black person is the same i wish the media would stop acting like we are DAMN

  • ME TOO

I am the only blakck girl in my entire major (fucking utah) and i am ALWAYS defending my "blackness"

  • you're kinda sexy

  • Me, too, pretty Black sister! : )

  • ::: 5 Stars :::

  • omg!Thirty, black, with no kids, engaged, and I eat sushi!! Someone contact CNN we are spreading! And I have a degree too!LOL I totally agree with you!

  • I liked the Black Women & Family but I did NOT like the Black Men segment. It was like black men were either really positive or really negative. It seemed extreme.

  • "Might as well dance like they do in the McDonald's commericals" lol.. you are too funny. You know the person who made that CNN show about being black in America was probably 55 years old and white. You would think they would ask someone "should we run this?" within the CNN group.

  • It pissed me off too! They act like we have been in hiding or invisible all this time.

  • YOU ARE FINE!!!

  • You said,"let people do what the hell they do". You are absolutely right. But then, there are people who feel ignored when some of the real in issues in America is not being addressed. Then, the CNN comes forward to talk about it in a proper way. I am not saying it was a perfect show either. But,at least they have tried their best. As long as they get it right for this issues in America, they can also do the due for all others next time. Just my opinion.

  • This video was great. It's ashame that CNN couldn't have showed all types of AA's in America. The message should have been choices determine more about how you'll live in America then race. But I guess they wanted to just pump up the we're all losers story so that some others can feel superior to blacks.

  • you're absolutely right. but the society likes to corner off black ppl like some separate entity - like you have to fit certain quotas and characteristics to be black.

  • yea someone who thinks like me

  • you are amazing!!! you should have your own show. and i agree with everything you siad

  • LMBO. I'm sorry, but you're hilarious. I will watch this video later for the seriousness of it, AFTER I get off work. Peace =]

  • I think the American culture puts too much emphasis on appearances. WAYYY to much. But on the other hand what is your education system doing about it? From what I see and hear not much. Kinda like enforcing the notion that the moon is made out of cheese

  • omg..i couldn't agree with you anymore,I agree with you 100 percent like I am 17 years and opposite of the people they were defining in their little documentry..

You mad a great point about how the people they were definig would not be watching in the first place.

  • Finally! I thought I was the only one who felt this way, to Hell with the false representations they show of us! I eat sushi too and I am proud of it!

  • I am a sushi FIEND Been eating it since I was in third grade and I am black

  • Well said. I was wondering the same thing. What's the point of an entire national series on being 'black in america?' One goal that I see through that is 'divide and conquer.' CNN will never make a series on "being white in america". The so-called whites are in most part from Europe (britain), so why not make a series on them? Answer: to keep them united and make us bicker and argue over nothing while they go bombing countries to divide the spoils of war among them.

  • But there is such a strong history here, specially in the south, somethings u can't get past and some people are really closed minded....BLACKS AND WHITES....it a issue with AMERICA.....I hope I didn't offend anyone if I did...it was not my intention and I am sorry! Good luck people make this country better! PLEASE!

  • Hi, I get it! And I know that being stereotyped is something that makes people angry!

However, that's what you see. I am sorry, you see it coming from blacks. Coming here to the US form Europe ( were I had tuns of black friends from Africa) The black people, I knew were different, they shared smiler morals and the way they approched life. Being here in the States its hard to get that from black community (not everyone!!!!!!!)

  • The thing is you knew they were'nt gonna talk about nothing real like, why we let white folks pick our heroes or why are there only negative images portrayed, or rewriting school books to tell the truth etc.

  • You tell 'em my sister! Why they so worried about us. You too tough

Soledad O'Brian and CNN thumbs down!

You remind me of Stacey Dash

  • lol.........

  • Girl you was so onnnnn point wow! and by the way 1:04 was espeically funny.lol

  • Very, Very good video, TY for sharing ur insightful thoughts.
