neither of us said we thought johnny marr was writing the songs, so i'm not sure where you're getting that point of view.

modest mouse used to be a very basic group with very basic sound, even Good News had a lot of the basic sound/group feel to it.

i think we were both saying (at least i was) that johnny marr's style of playing doesn't seem to fit well with the style that is/was modest mouse.

I thought the album was shit for a long time but after listening to stuff like Moon & Antarctica then going and listening to it again..it's not that bad.

Led Zeppellin, The Beatles and Eric Clapton are all musical geniuses whether you like it or not. The 80's weren't amazing for music but I have no clue why you wouldn't mention U2, early Green Day, late Pink Floyd, and early Nirvana. Johnny Marr's been playing gutar since 82, so if you don't like Modest Mouse's new style, he's not the person to blame it on.

I have to disagree. I love modest mouse's new sound. I love their old sound too. I dont see why every one thinks that just because their music has grown more complex they can use that as a justification for insulting them now. I have been listening to them for years have all their albums and if you actually listen to the music you can hear that with each new album they become more complex so hating them for that is just hating them for following their own trend and being better artists.

Impossible for the best band ever to turn to absolute shit. They still have flashes of brilliance, but on the whole it's just not worth it.

They've been on sony for 3 records now and this is the only album so far that sucks. Not sure it's them selling out. I was going to say actually that moon and antartica is their most complex and quirky thing to date the new one is just boring, sounds like complete filler.

Nah this new one isn't complex at all it's actually really boring and repetitive. It has nothing on how mish-mash/next M&A sounds.
