@weissman2000, the Javelin is a top down, death from above, type weapon. This looks like a side attack weapon. The weak spot of tanks, fox holes and buildings is the top hence why the Javelin moves like it does. The Japanese look like they just upgraded a RPG/LAW.

Not the same class of weapon, the ATM-5 is smaller & cheaper in order to conform to Japan's pacifist defense budget (1% of GDP). The defense budget of the US is a whooping 5% of its GDP; they could afford $100,000 missiles down to squad level.

It's cool, but too expensive. Old RPG-7 is more cost-effective.

It doesn't matter whether the tank is completely destroyed or just has a little shipshape hole in it's armor. Anyway, the tank is neutralized. So, why we should pay more.

Yeah, Javelin has good guidance system. But in most cases the best guidance it's accurate eye. It hasn't any failures inherent in electronics.

But I don't say that Javelin is useless.

@R87A lol. I rather prefer the Swedish AT-4 CMS. It only cost $400 US. The Rpg-7 cost $300 US. Difference. The AT-4 CMS can go though more armor than the Rpg-7. It is also very simple to opreate. Greater range. As well as being the only infantry held anti-tank rocket that can be used in a closed quarter without killing you. The Rpg-7 need to have space to fire unless you want to die painfully and slowly.

The FGM-148 Javelin is better than Type 01. The reason why FGM-148 Javelin is expensive it is because missiles could penetrates hardest inside tanks, apc, ifv, & aifv amount of hottest degree temperatures. The FGM-148 Javelin could lock on enemy war machines that tried to hide it. The person would lock on it then missiles will flew up then come down & hit the top the tank which is turret. Now I'd be interested in seeing what the Type 01's range is in comparison to Javelin, as well as warhead size. Still, looks like a nice weapon on the level of the French Eryx, but with variable angle of attack and fire & forget guidance.

Secondly, majority of the "Japanese" technology is simply commercialized pre-existing technology developed else where, i.e. 3DS, OLED, some however are indigenous, like Bluray.

But make no mistake, Japanese technology is not the best, nor necessarily the latest, or the most advanced.
