Other than Skalland winning I wonder how much of this was a pure script and how much was just a 5 mminute meeting and they let it flow, right down to not knowing the finishing order. If it was letters I would bet back then Skalland would have won a write-in vote as in those days people actually hated the heels. WWF put all the best personalities as heels and it got muddled about 1985-86.
Hard to imagine that a plot involving no wrestlers at all from 1977 could be getting so much heat from the crowd . Just a really fun moment to relive .
When I was a kid, I couldn't believe what a MANIAC he was on TV, GREAT!!! He was the first person I saw with a pierced face......long before it was trendy!!! Captain Lou was a trend setter!!!
Lou Albano was GREAT!!! I was amazed, as a child, at what a complete maniac he was on TV!!! The guy was a trend setter......think about it, who pierced their face back then???
One of the greatest injustices in the history of our great nation. That Captain Lou would be denied what was righfully his haunts those of us with any sense of fair play to this day.
The fact that Classy Freddie Blassie came in 4th only proves, once & for all, that wrestling is FAKE!!!!!! All Hail The "King of Men" Freddie Blassie!!! Rest In Peace oh Great One!!
The fact that Classy Freddie Blassie came in 4th only proves, once & for all, that wrestlign is FAKE!!!!!! All Hail The "King of Men" Freddie Blassie!!! Rest In Peace oh Great One!!
I remember this as the greatest piece ever. It was built up for weeks, every Saturday. Each of the "Big 3" were great. Skolund sucked! He was noboby! Just listen to the remarks .... priceless!
@kpflo123 Agreed, if anyone who should have gotten it on the merits of accomplishments as a manager around that time should have been either The Grand Wizard or Captain Lou. I think Superstar Billy Graham was still champion (before getting beat by Backlund), and I believe Captain Lou had tag team champs in The Valiants? Regardless though, it was great Saturday afternoon entertainment just to see the manic ravings of The Captain, Blassie, and The Grand Wizard. Skaalund was just plain BORING!
i miss the days when managers were important in wrestling. WWE alone gave birth to so many great managers: blassie, wizard, albano, fuji, humperdinck, hart, heenan, slick WCW had harley race, jim cornette, dangerously,jj dillon, percy pringle, ellering. ECW had bill alfonso, and james mitchell.
I dont see any guys right now making an impact like these managers did. james mitchell is still around but hes not in the spotlight-should come back to TNA. Truth Martini also needs the spotlight.
I wonder if vince could have fathomed how big and what turns his career would take back in the great year of 1977 the height of coolness in the history of america.
I miss the good ol days too

Wrestling fans are so uneducated. Albano, Grand Wizard, or Blassie should have won. They were all more accomplished managers than Skaaland.

Less than ten years later, this angle was repeated with Albano being the one conked on the head by the trophy via a jealous Bobby Heenan.
