Love it! Open G is my favorite alternate tuning! Enough of that though.. Is that a Schecter Pete Townsend Tele? Looks and sounds great. Just thought I'd ask.
I got into open A and G about three years ago after 40 years in Standard tuning. I was working on R Johnson stuff etc and wanted to dig into one open key. This of course led to Keith and then I found your amazing videos. I've really learned a ton coming here. Thanks!
If you search for Miami of London clips from 1994 you'll see this is A as I mentioned. Watch for the transitions from the verse using a simple bend on the low e string. I guess Jaggar was happy singing in A and there are many advantages to guitarists.
I've seen live videos where Keith is using the "g" tuning tuned to A. That's how I play it. YOu pick up open notes on the low string. This helps a lot.
Great version, learning it slowly...I know you get a ton of requests but I'd love to see you do Loving Cup by the Stones, and maybe Sister Luck by the Black Crowes....? Such beautiful songs...
Thanks again for your posts. Always look forward to them....
I used to joke with some of my high school friends that Keith Richards was a "human riff". Just plug him into the wall and he'd play! We meant that in a flattering way actually!
It sounds pretty damn right in the 'G'. Also, wasn't most/all of KR's work on Exile in open G anyway? It would stand to reason that he kept it that way on this bona fide stones classic. Absolutely one of the great album openers in history!
Hey priv great video . In the intro r u just playing the 3rd and 4th frets of the A and D strings and moving your index finger up to the 4th fret and keeping your middle finger on the 4th fret for the end of the intro or r their open strings you hitting as well? thx
I don't know if it's the right tuning, but it sounds alright, and it's easier for me to do it this way than it is for me in standard tuning. So...I'll go with this one. I play better in open-G anyway.
Heh PT that's right on the money - in the pocket. I'm sure it's open G. There is also a guitar in std tuning doing bass runs and also a third (I think) which is std tuning.
@WWPotter974 Exactly what I have been writing for a while. Right on the nose. low "E" stays the same and the rest is open g. Also two standard tuning guitar parts on lead by Mick T at the end and one more rhythm part by Keith!
I will guess this is the proper version, but how would I know? Now I am completely confused. I have guitars laying around in alternate tunings, capos everywhere...it's a total mess. I have to learn new fingerings, too. You never cease to amaze me. Thank you!
love the shine of this guitar :)

rafaultimate69 3 weeks ago
@rafaultimate69 This version is open G with the low E string staying at E rather than going down to D.

For what it's worth, Wolf Marshall's Stones transcription book also lists the same tuning with the low E string on and tuned to E.

I tried to post a link, but guess you can't do that. The search will get you there though.

@word67 If I had a dollar for every song Keith played differently onstage than he did in the studio, I'd be...Keith Richards.

Hi PT - try using open G but leave the high E string tuned normally to E. I think that's it.
WWPotter974 5 months ago
@WWPotter974 The high E string? That would give you 6th chords, though. Hmmm...

@jeffj257 Just those two, not hitting any open strings in the intro.
