Do not blame the US troops for the failure of Market-Garden. Look to your own esteemed Browning and Montgomery for that. THere are several recent publications detailing how it was ill planned and carreid out. Hell, Browning went in and took up serveral glider for his own personal staff including a chef with a traveling wine cellar. Browning planned this like a fracking vactaion! Oh, lets not forget how he screwed the Poles and blamed Sosabowski.

Can't disagree with you: 13 gliders wasted on HQ stuff on Day 1. In defence (what little defence can be made), the plan was a rehashed previous plan (Op Comet). Far too many compromises were made from the original Market Garden plan - in the 7 days to prepare perhaps no-one paused long enough to notice how flawed the plan had become.

Market garden was a disaster all together because of bad recognission they thougth ther was reserve forces on the ground but it was The SS that was there not old reservists that was the main thing they dident suceeed.
