" have 'em on Death Row searching for an Interscope" "sparkle like Irene Cara" "verbal vegetarian, squash beef with Ice Cube" "breathe heavy like an old man" "soft like Tiger Woods"...so many sick lines on this song.Classic Common !
@jazzriff To me it's not outdated. The real meaning of a classic. To me he is soft.Golf is a soft sport,it's boring.Dude destroyed his marriage cuz he couldn't control his sexual urges, epitome of someone lacking in character.Character is what makes a man (one of the things). But hey you're entitled to your opinion.I was just pointing out lines from the song and you wanted to harp on the Tiger Woods thing, sad.
@dubbsway4life Nah man, you're absolutely right! I was just kidding, like, tongue in cheek, ya know? He is soft, weak in that area of his life...it was evident by his behavior, although, I don't stand in judgement. That line is INDEED a classic line, as many in this joint are...my all time favorite from Common. So, no beef bruh, I was just making a little joke...that's all.
@jazzriff NO beef @ all.I just thought maybe you were trying to make it into a Tiger issue instead of just focusing on the tune. It's cool man,no big deal.Just a misunderstanding.
exactly its basicallyno need for a chorus or hook just common spazzing out showing some of his lyrical talent over a sick beat. so many metaphors in this track. hungry was the perfect name for this track
Man i gotta get this album espescially for songs like this one, and the ones with black thought, canibus, De La Soul, and Cee-Lo second best common album to me
"My thought scheme was like my offspring now it's teethin'" Who the fuck comes up with rhymes like these? Simply too much creativity for these dumb fucks out claiming they can rap there these days.
Common truly defined what is meant when they claim that "Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone" (homage to my most favorite artist). It's lyrics of such nature that makes one respect and honor an artist. It's not always about directly dissin' the life out of somebody; putting a point across indirectly kills two birds with one stone: it puts the opposite party down AND showcases one's imagination, in the sense that this person is clever enough to come up with such material.
...It amazes me to a point of no return when he says "Have him on Death Row searchin' for an Interscope." It's not the "complexity" of the rhyme that I'm taking into consideration, rather the thought and creativity put into it.
Common has, for years, shown what he's made up of and what he's capable of producing, and has already been established as a great thinker and a one-of-a-kind artist, so there's really no need in showing praise to him in order for others to understand; HOWEVER, I will say this as I believe that not only did he kill a few artists' careers with this one, but stepped his status up to at least ten levels...
This is one of the few trax that changed my life....I thought differently about rap when I heard this....real talk. One of, if not, the best rapper in the game...
DAAAMMMNNN.. I let my boy borrow this album then, and still aint get it back yet... lol... common albums are the most slept on .. dude is the truth... I put em up there wit my nig Jay-Z...
I wasn't really feeling common's last album, Electric circus and BE, but those other ones are dope as fuck! especially ressurection, can I borrow a dollar, Like water for choclate, Finding forever, and this one
What? Really? I've been following him since "Can I Borrow a Dollar?". As a matter of fact, I had that and the "Soul by the Pound" vinyl with the remixes. I followed him all the way up to "Be", where I lost him somewhere. I liked Electric Circus more than any of his material with Kanye. His art suffered a lot from working with someone with a strong ear for hip-POP. Common used to comb through potently original beats from No ID, JayDee(J Dilla) and Questlove. Now look. 808's and Neptunes. WTF. lol
@igotssssoul I think it was because of some money too. Guy is getting older, so he took up some promotions for him and his family. Nothing wrong with that. I don't think he's a sell-out like some hip-hop enthusiast think.
@visionimagify Actually, Com's been well off and continued to thrive off of apartnments/real estate he purchased in Chicago after the Resurrection album. So the standard of living for him and his daughter have been nowhere close to desperate survival. Besides, there's multiple business avenues to chase paper, but music should never be used as the primary vehicle to pursue it. Anything less than pushing the envelope and a gimmickless honest expression is an insult to hiphop heads.
@igotssssoul it's called experimenting and trying different things, maybe it didn't turn out perfect, but how would you know the outcome if you don't try?
One of the best common songs ever. "Shit is so banging niggaz say it's gang related" My thought shceme was like offspring now it's teething" "Hold mics like a second nut until the second coming" Too fucken ill!!!!

So, wack niggaz be cool, with them, I stay cordial
Flowin room temperature, cats is presumed miniature
Like golf. Soft like Tiger Woods
And real nigga angles I've stood with ways that's geometric
