Talk about missing the point. Nobody wants to take your car away dummy. What people want is the OPTION to walk instead of RELYING on a car to complete the simplest task. Kids to be able to socialize, get to the theater, ice cream stand or football game without parents having to constantly chauffeur. People to be able to congregate in a social meeting place on a Friday night like a square(or piazza), without having to drive home drunk. You'll still have your car, you'll just put less miles on it.
i didn't miss the point i would just rather drive. I've been in Europe for the past 6 months with public transportation and its ok but I would still rather drive in the US.
@DimitriNakos But you did say "f*** all you people trying to take my entertainment".
You'd rather drive. Great. Now how exactly would a traditional neighborhood stop you from doing that? I'm a HUGE car enthusiast myself but also enjoy the freedom of choice in transportation. While the U.S. suffers from being the fattest and most oil dependent country in the world, you'd actually fight for the status-quo. You must be fat and lazy.
Stop crying over my opinion. And no actually I'm fit and keep active thanks for worrying. You shouldn't attempt to put someone down when you are trying to sway their opinion it's makes it rather ineffective. The only benefit I see from public transportation is less horrible drivers.
@DimitriNakos So you did start the dialogue with "f*** all you people trying to take my entertainment", which was absurd to begin with and still fail to explain how that's going to happen by returning to traditional neighborhoods. I'm not trying to sway your opinion, only your own research and observation will do that. If you're going to START a conversation with f*** you instead of constructive input, expect similarly infantile responses.
@Bills350Z You are absolutely correct. We need town squares, "centrums", people friendly spaces, our society has gone mad, we accomodate cars instead of people! This is madness. We have destroyed our buildings, our heritage, our cultural identity, for this sickening sprawl. Thankfully we have saved South Beach and some of our Art Deco bldgs here in South Florida. We still need cable cars, sidewalk cafes, parks, trees and people spaces. We need a New American Revolution! Support new urbanism!
The problem isnt the car or efficiency, the problem is unchecked, unregulated overpopulation with births gone haywire exponentially in the last 100 years.
This country had half the population in 1950 that we do now and that exponential growth is the root cause of all of the problems today, every one of them.
If aliens observe earth, they probably presume cars are the masters and people are a strange substance spat out when they have outlived their purpose.
at some point in the past in america we had to slow it down keep the 50's model and let the rest of the world alone. then we could have given us more time to live better here.
isnt the econ gonna crash, isnt the globe warming, what about marshall law and everyone being fukd? soon old mother fukers who drove big cars and who still do, soon
It's hopeless, right wing nuts can't change their habits so we are doomed to live this way for a very long time until the rest of the world pulls the plug on us.
we want more space, more room to drive our cars, not all of america can be like new york. building up has never been much of an option, ever since we sought to keep going and push native americans back. america will never be fixed. til we get fuel efficient, eco friendly flying cars... but it's gonna be 2010 and we're still stuck on the ground, pumpin' the same damn gas as 60 years ago :D
i dont see the problem of sprawl being solved anytime soon.. anytime a very dense city center is formed the cost to live there grows so high the average person cannot afford to live there.
you can expect to pay the price of a medium sized house for an appartment here in vancouver.. thats insanity.
hard to invest in major transit projects for what the city wil be in the future. by the time trains are needed the city is filled and building would be massively expencive and disruptive
In Vancouver BC, sprawl is controlled by geographical boundaries. South is the US border, North are the mountains, West is the Georgia Straight and East can go only as far as Hope. In Vancouver's situation, they are best to condense and quit paving over fertile farm land.
kinda fun, here in Sweden u can get a train or bus to get almost everywhere, all bigger cittes and smaller towns have wither trains or busses
Sweden is 4th largest country in Europe so I guess thats good
Yes people complain here busses usually only comes once every hour and not after 2 am but still, better then in US where there are no trains in many cities and towns like LA
Old sayings during American wars...say goodbye to the farmer's son who went to france! Something sorta like that...:)
