It's Funny. I listen to incredible cats like Richard Bona ( my present day favorite)who have more chops, and tricks than Jaco had do Teen Town, and then I listen to Jaco do the same song and I realize that Jaco had a sense of time and pocket that even cats like Bona just can't quite get. Jaco was the greatest for more than just chops, Jaco was simply a musical miracle!
I could listen to Jaco and Peter for hours, they're so tight it's sick. Zawinul's left hand bass is clashing with Jaco in the E jam starting at 6:00. Rick, I've been following your stuff for about 5 years now. Can't thank you enough for your video and audio clips. Where in Reading was this? I saw Peter Graves and Word of Mouth in some Reading hotel ballroom at 2003 Berks Jazzfest.
@django772 Glad to be of service! I'm not sure which venue WR played, it may have had something to do with Berks Art Council. Will try to find out... I will be posting more from this show later this year. Thanks
Great clip! The performance is as expected from this legendary band, and it's a real treat to see the band-members so happy and excited when greeting the audience after the show is wrapped up. This was without doubt a blissful time in the lives of all four. Thank you for posting.
This sound of this video is wonderful .... Peter Erskine on drums sounds killer with Jaco (although Jaco commented in a British tabloid that quote "he had a funkier foot "than Erskine ! Jaco always had tongue firmly planted in cheek(maybe ??) ..... Re imexiled remark re Shorter falling a little short of the mark . I agree to point ... For consideration :Weather Report were LOUD ! live .... the soprano is notoriously hard to keep in tune ..it would have been murder to improvise over ...

Jaco at the top of his game, before the alcohol, drugs and mental illness. Thanks for posting this Rick.

I'm sorry, but Shorter falls somewhat "short" in this performance, and I think Jaco is kind of pissed. Jaco is the best however.
