Latin should be taught in all schools from an early age. Sounds weird, I know, but It is one of the mother languages of English and makes English easier to understand, read and spell. Three things that society is rapidly losing.

It is my belief that we can achieve the goals we have in place. Also I believe students need to spend less daily time in school. The human brain can hardly concentrate after 20 minutes thats not over do it. And if you want to see the results look at Finland as well as the some of the other Scandinavian countries. They spend hardly any time in school yet they have the highest test results and literacy rates. Something needs to change and it needs to change now!!!!!!!
The U.S has a failing education system simply because it does not have the budget to make a good one. We spend way too much money on things like the military when we could be using a large chunk of that money on improving the education system. We need to pay teachers more for doing a job most of us underestimate and degrade. We also need shrink class size so that students cannot just get by because the teacher hardly notices them. Thats make class sizes at largest 15 students instead of 30. Then
@phatmatt1176 10 Yrs? Most people who go to school that long become doctors.. The majority of students go to school for 4 yrs or less.
A degree can make a difference , especially since most manufacturing jobs are gone and are never coming back. My degree can be applied to international careers, so if I can't get a job here, I can always go abroad.
all we have to do is get rid of how the media showing how cool being a rapper they think they can be like them, why do you think europeans, and asians are smarter, because they listen to techno music and that doesnt show anything bad, its all about dancing
its not the system..its the kids!! Kids these days think studying is not "cool" Going to parties, doing drugs, is what they call "having a life" I blame those rap songs, it just brainwashed all the kids, and u know what will happen when someone like Lil wayne becomes the idol of millions of young adults.
Listen i am from the UK it is the same here. You can have the best teachers but if children dont want 2 learn u cant make them. I agree the US/UK have a trouble with media teens, American idol, reality TV Britains got talent. Kids think that they can b famous by sleeping with an athelete, make a porn tape. Look at the role models Paris Hilton,Kardashians, Carrie prejean,Octomum. I have been to the US for ayear, I found u guys nice & friendly.
A prominent judge was asked what we, as citizens of the countries of the world, could do to reduce crime and disobedience to law and to bring peace and contentment into our lives and into our nations. He thoughtfully replied, I would suggest a return to the old-fashioned practice of family educating there kids and not these corrupt govt
@Emrald70 if u think the US is "pressuring" its kids to study endlessly then what are the Asian countries doing? I think the US is not pressuring its kids enough. Kids these days wasted too many time.
You have so many TV channels. Why dont you create 10 more, Each for one standard. Educate students at Home. Make it fun. Give scholarship to good poor students. Make Exams regulated, controlled, and make it mandatory. Make schools Optional, Or may be only 100 day an year. Award Good teachers.
Create a World around Education. Make a national movement, Involve parents.
lol, well, I think we are going to the opposite side, there's been educational programs cancelled, actually. Now it's harder than ever to even get to college, ridiculously priced, and extremely elitist, if you don't go to school your parents go to jail, schools are full of leeching parasites. when the average grades go up, they raise the standards more and more, 'till it just goes down because students can't keep up.
Some do over eat, Some are Stupid, Some taking drugs, some are paranoid, many single parents, Kids carry gun to schools, Losing young parents to war, Economy crumbling, unemployment in rise, crime increasing, War cost increasing, Healthcare sucks, Ageing population, Young terrorists lurking
Save the HOME. Create citizen to take care of you and your country.
I am a public school teacher and this report is dead on! If you think your children are getting a truly quality education, you need to do some research. Most of the kids in my class can't put together a coherent sentence, don't go anywhere, don't do anything of substance, and don't speak well, however, they all of them want to go to college. Neither they, nor their parents, have any idea of what it takes to not only get into a good college, but graduate from it as well. This is no joke.
I usually like Lou Dobbs, but this comes off more like a marketing ad for the education and student loan industries. The guest us from the ETS! Do you want fries with that?--and when you get home you've got 5 calls from Sallie Mae.
My high school in California was absolute garbage.
In class, it was common place for kids to actually do nothing (literally to just sit there and not do papers in front of them), while the teacher just sits there, maybe saying one time for them to do their work, but not actually lifting a finger to help the kids.
It's not just the kids, it's the people in general in the schools.
I could talk to a man one on one or look on the Internet once, and I'd learn more than I did in school.
heck yeah...i think its the one size fits all approach of the public schools thats messing up our system. going through the motion of spitting some processed content thats part of a standard curriculum and telling the students to spit back out at them in the form of tests and hws....youre right, we need think of different styles of teaching and students need to be exposed to different styles of learning.
This is just terrible. I cannot believe this is OUR education system. We are economically on the verge of becoming a third-world country. This is a CRISIS!
Or maybe Lou Dobbs is fear-mongering as a way of advocating increases in federal influence over American education. Though these problems are real, the solutions offered are either not up to par or are actually part of the problem.
American school system is famous for its primitivity in Europe ;)
But it´s also very different to other systems and you need a lot of money so you can visit a good univercity.
In Germany there are jobs you can only do if you study at a university (medicine, law and many more) but if you wanna learn "normal" jobs like electrician you have to go to a company ( eg. Siemens, BMW ) and ask for a education.
If the take you you have to do a 3-4 years long education/training.
During this training you get money and it increase every year. When you finished your training you can go to any company which searches people for the job you have learned.
You don´t only work at the company when you train, you also go to schoo. For example 2 weeks work 2 weeks school 2 work 2 school and so on.
During the training you get less money than later when completed the training and you can call yourself e.g. a "real" elictrician.
The US education level can be improved. It is better than other nations because it has a working space program, nuclear arms program and stealth technology. Other nations do not. Your statistics for comparison lack a strong correlation with inferences to the level of quality of the education system. Yes many of the lead designers are foreign born however the birth of the project idea is American made.
Your response makes no sense. Space program? Stealth technology? What the hell does that have to do with the public educational system? See this is what they were talking about in the video. You are EXACTLY the problem they pointed out in the video. The stupidity is absolutely amazing.
America is cheating it's children out of a good life and a fullfilling future by these indoctrination stations but, people are too stupid to do anything about it so year by year and day by day there are more casualities from this so called "education" they'd have you believe is "perfect" I'm talking about college as well as stupid public schooling.
Its not that Americans are stupid, its mostly just the quality of the education they are receiving. Compare the quality of the teachers at private schools to the ones under the teacher's union in public schools.
I'm with you purple!!! I teach special ed. Since I have moved to teaching middle school I have moved to co- teaching with regular ed and I am shocked at the deficits in learning. Being forced to teach to a test binds our hands.
It's not the other countries getting smarter, it is the standards of USA getting LOWER.
Politicians try(NOT) to make it better by throwing money at the schools. That means a better stairway. Nice, all the schools now have better STAIRWAYS.
And the culture of the USA says that highly educated people are bad. There is something very wrong here.
Nowadays children of the USA believe that they don't need to go to school to have a good life. They are sad people.
What about those PARENTS who try, but have children who STILL struggle.
No two children learn alike. Yes, parents must be highly involved, and many aren't, but they aren't the only reason. No Child Left Behind has murdered any sensible solution to this mess. When we try to raise scores by teaching subjects that are 2 grades ahead, kids tune out and give up. Parents need to realize this - stop blaming teachers, and start raising hell with politicians who think they know what's best for all.
This video is real, despite no car health problems i got my college degree in two feilds from a good university, even tho i knew they dont teach what u need or grade right and most taxes go to officials not schools, and as of last week its been 1 year since graduation and guess what, unemployed ever since! watch my vid on educaiton vs school
World is getting smaller every day and Americans no longer can compete with smarter outsiders. The educational system of United Estate is flailing the American people. I believe this was a plan by British. I truly believe America will become the biggest third world country in the world before it rise up again which I do not believe it would happen in the next 20 years if our planet still exist. Hollywood is the reason of our present and future misery. Hollywood is the Satan's headquarter.
Satan's headquarter?? A plan of the British??WTF are you talking about?Do you think that's what happen??WAKE UP!You,americans do this to yourselves.Your technology is advancing, despite the growth of stupidity. And that's because no one cares to learn and listen anymore.THAT'S the real problem.
ps im kinda drunk so my english suck. just wanted to add this fact as well. we spend more then the top 20 something first world countries on defense to support a foreign policy that is not only failing us, but is robbing our people through corporations and every kind of scum-sucking lower life form under the disguise of a human entity life form known to our virus of a sciecies. this may sound extreme and that is fine. tesla was extreme. once i learn how to spell i am going to take over the world
My brother and room-mate is a science teacher. There is no absolute answer to the education system. We can apply some tools which are laying right at our feet and have proven to be successful. For example, look at the study on Singapoure Text books in L.A. inner city schools. Mathmatics went up 40%. Additionally parents and our youth is just as lost as our education system. We could emulate Finland and invest tons of money in quality teachers (Not that all our teachers are bad).it's a huge issue
buckfush12: finland has a good education system, but it is also a small country. The US has the largest educated population in the world; the third largest population in the world. china only has 50% of their kids going to high school and india is just really bad. It is easy for small countries to educate their kids, but the US does the best it can considering its size. although, we can do more.
Parents benefit enormously by having a full grasp of the scope and context of current educational realities so they can understand where their kids are at any time in their learning curve and how best to help them overcome obstacles.
Give your child the skills they need to succeed. 10 minutes in the evening on a consistent basis can yield phenomenal results. PREPARE them for success now rather than later.
The main problem the U.S education system has is the amount of money(I think its usually about $30000-$40000 per year) people have to pay for college education. In Ireland its free(the universities are paid by the government) apart from an entrance fee thats usually 800-1000 euro.
This is a problem - a "disaster" - if we assume inequality is inherently bad, and if we view the nation collectively. But if we accept the value of a meritocracy, and we compare our wealth to our ancestors instead of the wealthiest Americans, we'd see that there IS NO CRISIS.
Alarmists like Lou Dobbs make their money by scaring the public. It works because you accept his premises.

Then

@braveheart1779 theres no guarantee 10 years of college will get you a job!

I have been to the US for ayear, I found u guys nice & friendly.

the US educational system is pressuring its' kids to study endlessly and pass standardized tests s the SCHOOL looks good
schools everywhere are cutting Recess and lunch and increasing the homeowrk load just so their students get better test scores than other schools
if u want ur children to do well u should teach them a wide curriculum, try to make it interesting and let them be kids once in a while

Politicians should allow teachers and other professional educators to make policy. School is not the same as a 50 year old politician remembers it.
I lived in the US for nine years. I really love the place, but I have to say that spelling and grammar seems to be an 'optional skill' in America.

'No child left behind' - is morally and educationally negligent. Some people in my country are grateful they had to repeat the 8th grade or whatever.
It may be socially difficult at first for the child but it is educationally responsible.
'No child shall..' ENCOURAGES kids NOT to work, not to learn but they STILL expect a college placement.
When I am in my 80's these kids will be running the country. I don't want an uneducated moron telling me where I can put my wheelchair!!

RyanLeeParis 2 years ago 2
heck yeah...i think its the one size fits all approach of the public schools thats messing up our system. going through the motion of spitting some processed content thats part of a standard curriculum and telling the students to spit back out at them in the form of tests and hws....youre right, we need think of different styles of teaching and students need to be exposed to different styles of learning.

RedJoker 2 years ago
During this training you get money and it increase every year. When you finished your training you can go to any company which searches people for the job you have learned.
You don´t only work at the company when you train, you also go to schoo. For example 2 weeks work 2 weeks school 2 work 2 school and so on.
During the training you get less money than later when completed the training and you can call yourself e.g. a "real" elictrician.
I think there´s not better system in the world.
RedJoker 2 years ago
Maybe it should be noted that Institutions of higher education in Germany usually do not charge any tuition fees. Same in France.

Kroger43 2 years ago
Your response makes no sense. Space program? Stealth technology? What the hell does that have to do with the public educational system? See this is what they were talking about in the video. You are EXACTLY the problem they pointed out in the video. The stupidity is absolutely amazing.

Its not that Americans are stupid, its mostly just the quality of the education they are receiving. Compare the quality of the teachers at private schools to the ones under the teacher's union in public schools.

World is getting smaller every day and Americans no longer can compete with smarter outsiders. The educational system of United Estate is flailing the American people.

It is easy for small countries to educate their kids, but the US does the best it can considering its size. although, we can do more.
burger1376 3 years ago
Thats not actualy how you compare statistics.
the US education level is below the standards of the western world and size has nothing to do with it.
US education hasnt been this bad in the past
and our (Finnish) education wasnt the world's finest till huge reforms by the academia.
point being, you can do it too.

in many areas.

1916r 4 years ago
The main problem in the US education system is the incredibly low wage for teachers.
fatmanprime 3 years ago
This is a problem - a "disaster" - if we assume inequality is inherently bad, and if we view the nation collectively. But if we accept the value of a meritocracy, and we compare our wealth to our ancestors instead of the wealthiest Americans, we'd see that there IS NO CRISIS.
Alarmists like Lou Dobbs make their money by scaring the public. It works because you accept his premises.
