Was reden sie heutzutage? Was redeten sie einst?
@alaenoctis One big problem would be solved in the Catholic Church if they allowed priests to marry. I beg to differ that this would not create a problem with the priest or his congregation. Take a look at the Coptic Christian Church from Egypt. Their priests can marry. Their Church was founded by the Apostle Mark. Catholicism was from the Apostle Peter.
@aknotz, What do you mean? That celibacy has anything to do with pedophilia? Not really! In some rites the marriage of priests is permitted, as in Eastern and now converts from Anglicanism. The solution to this evil is a much more rigorous selection for candidates for the priesthood.
The problem of child abuse also exists among married Protestant pastors and rabbis, as well as between parents, teachers, coaches. It takes a much broader discussion to solve this problem.
Não entendi o comentário. Quem trabalha no Vaticano? Padre Reginald? Eu? ;)
É legal ver alguém interessado em outros idiomas e tentando escrever em português
(It's nice to see someone interested in other languages and trying to write in Portuguese. Here in Brazil who don't know spanish very well speaks "portunhol", lol). By the way, you study Esperanto, isn't? Do you know Interlingua?
And this is the greatest problem: if someone loses (and now we have almost lost it) if someone loses this connection with the whole history of the Church, something [important] is lost. And if someone is not able to open the books of Saint Thomas, or also Saint Augustine, or of the Church, or of the Councils, and to understand Latin, he is shut out! He is kept at a distance. He is lost, and this is my dilemma, since, still, our whole history has been bound together with the Latin language.
And if we read the daily Roman official notices, [they contain] a different type of speech, a different tenor of mind, the Romans speaking differently thus than we do today. This is the problem. Therefore, we have to think about it, which I enjoy doing, (that is) to consider what are we saying today? and what did the Romans used to say? and what would the Romans be saying if they were speaking now.
He says, the Romans did not have the concepts which we have today. Therefore we have to sweat and labor to render, in some other way, [these] concepts. This is the difficulty.

Pessima? Haudquaquam. His Italianate pronunciation is very easy to understand. If he were to speak Latin with a FRENCH accent he would be incomprehensible.
Pessima??!! This is medieval/church pronunciation. Latin has been spoken this way for centuries, and in many ways it is more authentic than the reconstructed classical pronunciation. The guy has been studying Latin for decades and isn't likely to have pronunciation problems.
I agree that italianate pronunciation is perfectly acceptable as it sprung out from the church and has been prevalent especially during the middle ages. However, even by that standard, his pronunciation is deplorable. Pay attention to the vowels, they're nearly all diphthongs instead of pure vowels, and they're the wrong pure vowels. I'm not saying people have to speak Latin perfectly with whatever system they choose, but if you're supposed to be the "Master of Latin", you would expect more.
