same thing happened on the clk-gtr. this is a different race series. the clk-gt1 crashed at france during the 24 hours of le mans. this video is the american le mans series which happened in the states. same category of cars though. the clk-gtr ended outside the track barrier while this 911-gt1 ended up inside.

@seismica Still wrong the clk gtr raced in fia gt series while the clk lm raced le mans. both were almost the same car but the lm was very heavily modified. thats why one is called GTR and one is called LM due to the series they were in. the CLR was the failed replacement of the LM

Actually the CLK GTR raced in the FIA GT championship in 1997. Then Mercedes took the car to Le mans. The CLK GTR was adapted into the LM to cope with the endurance. It was faster than the CLK GTR, so after their failure at Le-mans they replaced the GTR with the LM in the GT championship. The LM was the successor to the GTR.

The CLR was an adaption of the CLK LM for the LMGTP class, because in 1999 only Mercedes entered the GT1 class so it was discontinued (I think it has made a return since).
