  • NEVER take your videos off of youtube! Without these videos, there is no way in H_ll I could pass my college courses!

  • I learned more in 17 minutes of this than 17 periods of my chemistry class

  • @LordAlda it is actually 1-(Positive) and 1+ (Negative)

  • OIL RIG

Oxidation is loss, reduction is gain, of electrons.

To be honest the way you explained it, reduction is reduction of charge and there for oxidation state prevents me from even having to use OIL RIG.

  • That damn Bernie... Lost a good amount of coin to that sketchy fellow

  • Omg you're amazing!! My teacher sucks. I wish you were my teacher.

  • YOU LEGEND

FORGET PAYING FOR TUITION WHEN YOU CAN HAVE THIS

  • i love this guy and these videos. saved me from chemistry 1301!

  • cool.... but your voice makes me go all sleepyy... o.o Zzzzz......

  • @khanacademy Oxidation state is different than oxidation number.

  • i totally get oxidation now there was no explanation given at the unit we got at all thank you so much!

  • Im a college student and I plan on remembering LEO says GER for my test this week lol THANK YOU!

  • my chemistry teacher expect A's from all of us, when she cant teach at all.. its like writing a research paper without knowing the alphabet so this is letter A-F

  • I like every single of you videos alot, they are very helpful!

I watch them eventhough they are in english and I am a german student!

Much more understandable than the incomprehensable chemistry lessons of my teacher. Thanks to you, I start seeing the light at the end of the tunnel again! Thank you

  • You just get the perfect voice for teaching...while my teacher has the prefect voice for bed time stories...i just can't help sleeping through all of it...

  • lol, "Bernie Madoff'd". awesome.

  • I love you

  • i like the way he referred elements to people.

  • why is it hydrogen fluoride and not hydrogen monofluoride?

  • @LoveHDS It's implied by the lack of a prefix that would mean anything other than 1.

  • I love your voice :)

  • @vegasfilmsyeah Wieso das !? :D sag jez nich deswegen ! :D :P

  • So, tell me if this analogy works- we could say the US government has Bernie Madoff'd taxpayer money into the Social Security Ponzi Scheme!

  • Maddoffed baby!

  • I might pass my Chemistry exam because of you. Thank you so much, you're videos have taught me something in 15 minutes that my teachers would take weeks to teach. (Recommended you to my fellow chemistry buddys ;) )

  • redooced haha

  • Great videos. has helped me a lot. ( small sugestion for those who find it hard to remember leo ger.

O.I.L - R.I.G (oxidation is loss - Reduction is gain) :) it helped me

  • You just got Bernie Madoff'd! lmao.

  • I was so hocked on your videos I almost forgot to Subscribe! Sorry.

  • thanks.. i couldnt understand redox from the text book but in 17 mins i now get it. THANKYOU!!!

  • hey great video, i learned a lot

  • LEO

    says

    GER

    :)

  • You all have been Khanized. Great video.

  • another way of remembering Oxidation and Reduction is:

OIL= Oxidation is loss (of electrons)

    RIG=Reduction is gain (of electrons)

  • Very good, nice video, keep it up!

  • Good explanation! Thank you!

  • ur videos are very helf full .

thnk u very much for making chemistry esier for us

  • ur videos are very helf full .

thnk u very much for making chemistry esier for us

  • I love the Bernie Maddoff reference!

  • I love the Madoff thing too. Great conceptualization!

  • OMG, I never managed to undestand Oxidation and Reduction in my school. But after viewing 5 min's of this video, I get it !!! Thanx a lot, Sal ;)

  • I really love the Bernie Madoff analogy.

  • @ctesebius wats bernie Madoff

  • bernie madoff stole my electrons! haha, nice video

  • Outstanding videos! Thanks a lot!

What tools do you use? what software and hardware?

  • OIL RIG ;)

  • I got dizzy

  • How about a video on some hard ones like:

    Mn+2(aq) + BiO3-(aq) --> MnO4-(aq) + Bi+3(aq) (in acidic solution)

    and

    2Zn(s) + O2(g) → 2ZnO(s)

And then some videos on how to work out the names the of chemicals?

  • I also was taught OIL RIG as a mnemonic. Oxidisation Is Loss, Reduction Is Gain.

  • What about

    OIL

    RIG

  • whoa whoa man ur confusing me by saying oxidation and charge. oxidation number should write like this +3. and charge like this3+.

  • Chemistry would be easier if 17th century scientists had assigned the reverse notations to their electrical experiments, we'd have none of this 'electrons are negative' bullshit.

  • i read my college level chem book 5 times and did not understand oxidation-reduction reactions.

you just made life so much easier.

    thank you.

  • @ohhgeeme Oxidation is increase in nuclear charge on electrons. Lets say any atom has an oxidation state of +1 which means it has 1 electron less than protons. Thus these more protons will attract less electrons in an atom with greater force which is the increase in nuclear charge.

Reduction is decrease in nuclear charge on electrons. -1 means 1 electron is more than protons. Atomic size & shielding affect is increased thus decreasing nuclear charge. Therefore nuclear charge 1+>1-

  • Nigga you should be proud of yourself.changng the world 1 vid. at a time.

  • thank you. youre doing more good than you realize with these videos. youtube needs more members like this

  • dude. thank you. so much.

  • this rocks i learned more from you than my dumbass chem teacher

yay for passing midterms!!! (hopefully lol)

  • thank you sooo much! my chem teacher cares more about hockey than actually teaching lol

  • I'd just like to say thanks. My scince teacher can't teach for jack, you saved me for my exams

  • That's pretty cool of you to take it upon yourself to get this stuff by yourself, personally I use it for revision.

    Good on you mate.

  • LMFAO @ bernie madoff ponzi scheme

  • i love u man!! thanx for helpin me ace my exams!!

  • Oil Rig works better:

    Oxidation

    Is

    Loss

    Reduction

    Is

    Gain

Also, I suggest that you call it 1- (negative) or 1+ (positive) instead, because it gets confusing.

  • Plus (+1) and minus (-1) are math terms.

  • lol @ bernie madoff analogy

  • yeah that made me crack up
