  • There have been many Scrooges over the decades from Fonzie to Captain Picard to General Patton just to name a few but this one captures the feel and spirit of Christmas.Full of atmosphere i couldnt think of a Christmas without it.I saw it on TV as a child in the early 70's and is my favorite version. The black and white 1951 version with Alistare Sim comes in second. When you fall in love with a movie you bond with it i think and no other version or remake will ever be better that that one.

  • For my family isn't Christmas without this movie.

    best Chrismas movie ever

  • Stumbled onto this one well after Christmas...I know. However, I must say that this is my favorite Christmas Carol movie hands down. This, more than any other, reminds me of Christmas. Such a great movie and fantasic songs. To this day I am not sure why it's not popular like it was when I was a kid. They played this every year back then. Such a great tradition. Love this movie so much.

  • Scrooge gets cast into Hell. LOL

  • Omg albert finny is funny at the end of this video lol. "Take your infernal Merry Christmas with ya..." =D

  • Best movie to get me in the Christmas spirit. It's the music for me!

  • FINNEY PLAYED EBENEZER, POIROT AND WARBUCKS IN THREE DIFFERENT LOOKS! I CAN NOT RECOGNIZE HIM IN THOSE THREE ROLES!

  • @veganisextremelygood Albert Finney is a genius! A truly brilliant, chameleonic character actor.

  • I absolutely love the story of "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens. Charles Dickens was an extremly gifted and brilliant man who made his novel come to life. May God bless Charles Dickens.

  • BEST VERSON EVER!

  • @modrenwarefare I agree-this is the only version that's truly magical. My second favorite version is the Patrick Stewart one!

  • @audgeyp oh yeah Patrick Stewart is awesome too Happy Holidays to you

  • @modrenwarefare thank you, the same to you! C:

  • @audgeyp No Problem i love this time of the year coco, snow, christmas, hanukkah, its a fun time. Well have a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year! You are so kind.

  • time to watch this! best scrooge EVER

  • "Begone from here and take your infernal merry Christmas with yah!"

    Albert Finney owns

  • this is a classic.

  • This version sucks, the best one had George G. Scott as Scrooge.

  • @federalwarhawk wrong.

  • I can't believe somebody uploaded this!! I just missed it on TCM. I saw the end, with the catchy song "thank you very much", and had to see the rest. Thank you very very much for posting this film!

  • It is my favorite too. I remember when my Mother took me and my sister to see this many years ago. We cherish the memory and the movie. Thank you for posting this great film.

  • I just watched this last night. :) Its kind of a tradition for me, my 2 little brothers, and my parents to watch this every year near Christmas. Its definently the BEST Scrooge out there!!!

  • Thank-you, 1s2watchonxmaseve, so much for posting this wonderful movie with the wonderful Albert Finney!

  • The best!

  • Thank you very much, thank you very much, that's the nicest thing that anyone's ever done for me! (Uploading, that is). I've been watching this since I was a little girl and I only have it on VHS so again, thank you and Merry Christmas!

  • MY FAV ALSO! I THINK I WILL LOOK FOR THIS TODAY!

  • Thank you - you saved my Christmas when my Scrooge DVD was corrupted and wouldn't play! I watch this every year and it's part of my Christmas buildup now. Great editing of all the episodes too - thanks again!

  • My favorite version, too! I actually saw it in the theater when it was initially released. I was 11 years old and his stuck with me ever since. One of the best Christmas morning transformations of Scrooge ever filmed! I wore out numerous VHS copies before it came out on DVD. Kudos to Alec Guiness too for his delightful portrayal of Jacob Marley.

  • Well he gave him the day off.

  • Thank you so much for put this up. I have been looking for this for ages. Many great British stars. thank you, thank you.

  • I will never get tired of watching this. I can still remember laying on the sofa watching this after the birth of my second child. He turned 25 yesterday!!!

  • I believe THIS one was the first to be in COLOR, .. . would that be correct? All older film versions that I've seen have been in black & white .

  • Obi wan is in this????? Fat

  • I love this one, but as a fan of musicals anyway, I'm probably a bit biased. The only other one I love as much is George C. Scott's adaptation of Scrooge!

  • My family tradition with this movie is to watch it on Christmas Eve and try to find the almond in the rice pudding!! Best scrooge ever!

  • This Is Filmed In 1969

  • Long Live Charles Dickens!!!!

  • RIP Charles Dickens

  • HUZZAH!!!!

  • FTW

  • OMG!

  • LOL

  • Long Live Santa Claus!!!!

  • HO-HO-HO!!!!

  • YAY CHRISTMAS SOON!!!

  • Sound is low, turn the volume all up.

  • This is my favorite Christmas movie...the music is wonderful and so is the actuation by its players...the best. Merry Christmas to all its viewers and God Bless You All.

  • My all time favorite Christmas movie . I "discovered" this film at a small Art Film House that was once in Charleston , S. Carolina . They had European films every month and this was shown there only 1 Christmas season . I was blown away by the production , the music score , the actors and just EVERYTHING about this film was terrific .

  • By far the best scrooge

"Be gone from heere an' take your infernal merry christmas with ya!"

  • is there all the parts?

  • Damn. The 1800s must have sucked for a bunch of creepy animatronics in a window to look like the best toys ever

  • @1994moviebuff Well remember they didn't have no iPods or computers back then, so such a thing was a BIG deal.

  • always puts me in the Christmas Spirit!

  • @FacckUtube yes, seasons in the 9th lair abyss basically~ but thanks fur throwing salt in my wounds :P

  • Out of all the adaptations of a Christmas Carol, out of all the endless "Scrooge" films, this one is the GREATEST of them all.

Thanks so much for the upload.

  • it is good but it is also a complete WRIP off of Oliver!

  • In my personal opinion this is the best Scrooge movie EVER and one of the best Christmas movies of all time. The best version of the Christmas Carol. I will add this one to my DVD collection. Happy Holidays everyone!!!

  • @LLaneroSolitario17 Same To You

  • Comment removed

  • @LLaneroSolitario17 I agree! The one from 1950 was good too ( that one was a non-musical though ). I'd place it second along this. And there's also a good animated version from like 1972 ( I think ? ). All the other versions I've seen, apart from THOSE three, are pretty bleh I think .

  • @LLaneroSolitario17 how can it be the best movie ever but only one of the best chritmas movies

  • My friend is gonna be in this paly!

  • My family and I saw this in the theatre when I was 6 years old. It has been our favorite version of "A Christmas Carol" since. After my mother suffered a strokeseveral years ago, I always made a point of showing it to her late on Christmas eve night. In fact she demands it!

  • Watching this movie at Christmas time has always been a tradition in my family, it's such a great version. Thank you for posting this!

  • Time to watch this again! Thanks for sharing this! Merry Christmas!

  • my dads always singing "i hate people..." haha hes just trying to be funny.okay, maybe he half means it.haha

  • @ 3:01, that's a big no-no. lol

  • THANK YOU... for taking time to put this on YT...

  • *Alistair Simms

  • This has been my favorite version of Scrooge/Christmas Carol ever. Thanks for sharing!

  • Amazing.

  • xD for this play at school im an urchan

  • I remember watching this growing up. The BEST "Scrooge" by far! Everything about it, from the acting to the scenery! Thanks so so much for bringing back such fond memories of Christmas!

  • I watched this as a kid and loved it, and was just looking all over the internet for "A Christmas Carol" instead of "Scrooge". Glad I found it; I plan on watching it this Christmas for the first time in nearly two decades!

  • TCM channel december 19th and the 23rd 2011.

  • ... the BEST !!!!

  • Love this version. Lots of people seem to under-rate it. Thanks for the upload, can't wait for Christmas.

  • I cry every year when I see this film. I love it so much.

  • I LOVE Christmas! I started decorating already! :o)

Merry Christmas everyone!!!! And thank you for this movie, I really like Albert Finney

  • @yomie100 thats what i like to hear! haha

  • It is a truthful & compassionate masterpiece of redemption & hope, exposing the worst & the best of humanity. Charles Dickens gave an endless gift with "A Christmas Carol" that shows what is truly important. This exemplary version, "Scrooge", honors the story & the message & amazingly adds to it with lively, emotional, & powerful music. Dozens of versions exist, & few are musicals. This one could not be improved upon in any area. God bless us, everyone & Thank you 1s2watchonxmaseve .

  • This is my favorite Scrooge! I love Christmas

  • @keith4291 dude your a f-ing genius I completely agree

  • It's almost that time of year again! Even with the horrible economy and the overall gloom of the world today, we still have a movie like this to give us that heart warming holiday spirit!

  • Bizarrely, Albert Finney was 13 years younger than the man who played Scrooge's nephew!

  • the best adaptation of a christmas carol.

  • the best adaptation of a christmas carol.

  • Not too keen on musicals, but this is one I can watch every day... 5★'s O.o

  • Hahaha I also watched this with my mom when I was little and she sang me the songs. I think it's the best version there ever was and I watch it about fifteen times every year and still cry at every one!

  • This is my favorite! Thank you for posting it!!!

  • the volume needs to be much louder on this!

  • This is the best version of a Christmas Carol and I have a few versions.....lots of Christmas tapes......watch them all year long.

  • Well,I only found this version quite by accident,in a 'bargain bin' in my local Woolworths about 6 years ago, paid less than a fiver for it on dvd.Sadly I have now knackered my copy 'cause I played it on average about once a week, lol.Absolutely LOVE it,it is the definitive 'A Christmas Carol',at least it is for me.Finney was outstanding as Scrooge,& the supporting cast were tremendous.Anton Rogers,Molly Weir,Dame Wendy Hiller & so many others.Must go out & buy a replacement soon.Bah,HUMBUG!

  • best christmas move ever

  • The tall blonde caroler boy is the guy I know babysit for

  • thanx for posting this, great movie!

  • this one is my fav too

  • This is my favorite version of the Dickens classic, and I have little doubt in my mind when Mr. Dickens penned the novel that he invisioned this in his brain. Albert Finney as Scrooge from old to young, and back again, without the aid of much makeup, is absoloutely brilliant. And how can you not love the cast of Alec McGuinness and all the wonderful songs? This won Finney the Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for that year!

  • this film is sprinkled with magic dust..amazing..albert finney..legend

  • BEST VERSION

  • @Shanniquitie AGREED!!

  • this is the only scrooge movie that makes xmas.

all other scrooge films should be taken away,

    100% classic this very film.

  • @portalsounds ... best ever!!

  • @portalsounds INDEED!!

  • the ultimate festive film, christmas just aint christmas without scrooge. the best adaptation of the dickens classic, he would be soo proud of this. been watching it since i was 8 or 9 and never fail to watch it on christmas eve. Albert Finney and Alec Guiness, absolute genius and a must have at christmas, such a shame it dont get shown on tv anywhere near enough, the ultimate classic!!!!

  • This is my favorite Christmas film of all time, thank you for uploading it.

    Merry Christmas everyone! :)

  • This version is my most favorite. Thank you for posting this.

  • I love how this song gets you excited for the rest of the movie!!

  • superb film, the ghost scenes are amazing

  • without a doubt the best, the greatest. Tops not only all other Christmas carols but all other Christmas shows. I can say this because I generally detest musical but worship this movie. No one compares to Albert Finney as Scrooge or Alec Guiness as Marley. I can't believe this is never played on TV yet we are force fed Jim carrey destroying not one but two classics.

  • @Available8063 It is played on TV...just very hard to catch... When I first watched this movie on my Grandfathers lap it was on tv ...TCM will air it today............Record ! Have a Merry Christmas!!!

  • GOOD AFTERNOON !!!

  • Dickens would be proud!!

  • Thanks for posting !

  • This has always been my favorite Christmas movie. I always look for it on tv and they dont play it like they use to. It always puts me in the Christmas mood. Thanks for the movie. I watched it over and over again all day!!

  • I just found out that Finney won a Golden Globe for best actor for this. Well deserved. He should of gotten an oscar or at least a nomination as well.. the fact it was made in england probably had something to do with being snubbed

  • YESSS! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS!

  • In 1970 I was a Brownie (8 y.o) and instead of a Christmas party our troop went to Radio City Music Hall to see the Rockettes Christmas Extravaganza. This was the Movie that was featured. It was Magic! ....Years later, I was surprised to discover that Albert Finney was only 30 at the time amazing.

  • My mum;s favourite. she watched it every Christmas. She died last year aged 99 and this was the last thing she talked about. Bless you for posting and a very merry Christmas.

  • this is by far the best adaptation of A Christmas Carol. Music and all.. so nice to find people who love it with such warm memories of childhood christmases as I do.

Note... this was one of the first major motion pictures directed by a woman, which is why it got very little attention publicly in 1970. Thank God it has gotten it's recognition from all of us now.

  • Thanks for uploding

  • Does anyone know who did the illustrations in the opening credits? I am having trouble finding out the name online-thank you!!

  • This is my favourite version :)

  • @groupiesrule-my fave, too-by far.

To me this is the only version with a totally convincing cast. Best Scrooge, best Marley, best Bob Cratchit, Tiny Tim, spirits of past, present, and future, etc..

  • This is the best adaptation of a Christmas Carol. I remember as kid watching WPIX out of New York in the late 70's and catching this. loved the songs and the actors who portrayed Dicken's characters. don't know why people seem to knock this version. it's the best

  • THIS WILL BE AIRED 3 TIMES IN DECEMBER ON TCM THE FIRST ON DECEMBER 10TH AT 9:30!

  • @voiceofelijah2012 what does TMC stand for i forgot

  • @modrenwarefare turner classic movies

  • this is one that even if you hate musicals will suck you in and open you up, last christmas I watched this on christmas eve by myself it ended exactly at 12:00 am and for a brief brief moment I stood up and felt that unconditional love for the world.

  • I saw this when it first came on in 1970. I believe that it was part of the Hallmark Hall of Fame. Although I was only 6, I was enchanted. Although it is not very popular, it remains my favorite holiday movie! Thank you for sharing it here!

  • watch this every xmas eve with my family... after seeing this vid i cant wait now

  • our family tradition had been to watch this movie the night we put up our Christmas tree...make a big pot of homemade chili...and hot chocolate....i now enjoy doing the same with my grandchildren....

  • I have always believed that this is the best Christmas movie. It gets you right in the spirit!

  • Oh thank you so much! I'm stuck on an overseas contract away from my family for Christmas and this movie has always meant SO much to me. I never thought I'd find it this year! I was so devestated when I forgot to pack my copy.,,,,

  • I took my Mom to see this in 1970 when I had just turned 18 and she was 52.

We walked out with great joy; I will never forget it. It was only George C. Scott's version in 1984 that ever topped it. I shall watch it again this year; Mom is long gone, but I am so very happy that you posted this. Thank you very much.

  • @grindlbebe

    Such a touching story

    Enjoy :)

  • @grindlbebe that was an awesome thing to go do, this was one of my favorite version, that song,,thank you very much,, every now and than would get stuck in my head lololol
