  • try to remember that this was the finest of modern beginnings to the rebirth of the recorder.

  • sitting with the original recording :

das alte Werk, musik und ihre Zeit, Blockflötenmusik auf Originalinstrumenten um 1700, released 1966

  • Superbe. La Pavane Lachrymae de Van Eyck est magnifiquement jouée par Frans Brüggen. C'est magique!

  • This piece, played by Bruggen, brought me to playing the recorder, 30 yars ago. Now I have arthritis in my fingers, and I can't play anymore.

Thanks for bringing back this moving experience back to me.

  • @markspentray I am so sorry. I offer you my internet-condolances.

  • @markspentray Aww...I can't imagine not being able to play! It must be a heavy cross for you to bear. :(

  • @markspentray I just started to play the recorder 6 months ago and couldn't imagine not being able to play. It gets into your soul and becomes apart of you. I hope that one day you will be able to play again.

  • @queenbunny76 I agree..music is still in his heart (markspentray)..bless him! I play too..must practice more!!

  • I forgot!!!! AWESOME MAN,

FRANS BRÜGGEN IS A MUSICIAN WHO IS NOT AN ARCHEOLOGIST BUT A GREAT ARTIST (!)

    LUCIANO BERIO.

  • Lovely stuff.

  • Some persons have more to lose than others, obviously the genius are genius!!!...

the recorders players are recorders players (smokers or not)

  • Van Eijck + Bruggen = celestial music

  • and now he doesn't play anymore and hates the recorder. How sad.

  • He doesn't hate the recorder. Only decided continue his music carrer like director. But his orchestra are wonderful... Thanks Frans.

  • Read this from the interview for goldberg magazine:

"I was invited to the United States by the American Recorder Society because I had been chosen (...) Recorder Player of the Millennium [more laughter]. Isn't it strange? You can't get away from it. I told them I didn't want to go and they didn't understand! I have chosen a new life. I didn't tell them this, but I'm telling you now, the truth is I can't stand the sound of the recorder any more "

  • Yes I have the same Interview. I talked with him the last month, about this comentary in goldberg magazine and other topics It was his respond:

...I choose a new life like director, I was boried of playing the same repertory again and again, and, I don't hate the recorder is only the past of my life, and certanly I don't want to talk about my past... this is the true.

It was his own words, choose your better decision.

    Leah

  • This is why we need more good modern music written for recorder.

  • no, we need more contemporary music played by "period" instruments

  • @frankfitzpatrick Have you checked out Markus Zahnhausen's work? It's 'modern', full of special techniques, but fantastically virtuosic. Try the Jahrezeichen, it's good stuff.

  • Here is the great master of recorder in the world. Until now, nobody can play like He.

Loor Y gloria to Frans Brüggen, cualquiera uqe diga que es el mejor del mundo es un farsante. El mismo Walter declina de si para decir que como Frans Brüggen no hay mas.

  • i have no words for this... far too perfect....

  • Great great great!! Thanks Van Eijck, thanks Brüggen & thanks vgpa. 5 stars ( 2 times) :-)
