Nothing was more emotional for me then a story about a beat down, broken hearted shell of a man, through grief and guilt, feels all purpose in life has abandoned him, prepares for the greatest physical mental and emotional challenge of his life. All riding on the faith that a letter supposedly written from his deceased wife, confirms he may or may not get to see her again. The mere thought that he would be willing to risk it all, riding on the faith of a letter is simply beautiful.
4 people lost in a cursed town, summoned there by some sinister force and forced to face their own personal demons, their own personal hell in search for redemption, man i love SH2.
Found time to play it, and play very carefully! don't skip scenes and don't do anything else while playing! You are losing one of most beautiful love stories ever... and you'll choose your own fate...
The Silent Hill games are some of the finest games ever made. I don't know many other games that can provide such a compelling story that is told fantastically, through imagery and subtle dialogue. The games don't scream in your face for attention every ten minutes, it's subtle and it's mature. If you have never played a Silent Hill game, stop what you are doing, go out, buy it and prepare to transport yourself to Maria's special place... Silent Hill.
SH2 will always be the greatest survival horror game I've ever played. Nothing else can compare to the impact this game had. 3 is okay but it doesn't come close, and after 3 the series effectively ends.
In my Opinion the best of the series are Silent Hill 1 2 & 3 Thumbs up if you agree (im not telling anyone to thumbs up so please no hate comments lol)
I played this when i was like 10, at the time i didnt get what was going on, i just knew it was fucking scary, now i realize it was such a great story, and i didnt even know it.
@oldmanpudding69 i played this game when i was 12. i didnt understand anything as well. i had to read this faq from this guy from Gamefaqs who explained the plot. and man it had hidden meaning and stories to it like inception. amazing game !

@altermarvin21 In all honesty, I think the main reason why the Pyramid Heads you fight just before Demon Maria commit suicide after you damage them so much is because he decided to stop regretting what he did. I'd imagine that doing so would eliminate their purpose for existence, and why live with no purpose?
@jack920 Henry's a bad doer who's being punished by what he feels the need to be punished. He's subconsciously aware of what he did and Silent Hill helps him materialize that subconscious need for atonement.
You know how when you do something really shitty, you feel remorse? Imagine if that feeling of remorse was a monster trying to punish you for what you did. That's what happened to Henry. The psychological pain came out, tormented him and made him come to terms with what happened & move on.
@Ebvardh *blink blink* Did you play the fourth game? The only reason Henry gets dragged into the events of that game is because he moved into that specific apartment. After that he was marked as the 21 sacrament which pretty much sealed his fate. Silent Hill 4 is based off of Walter's subconscious, not Henry's.

You know, shattered memories is not that bad as everyone was writing here. Even without combat and blood and gore that game is good. I liked it anyway. I enjoyed the story.
silent hill is by far the best in the series,no other game could top that,but i only wish they re-released it on ps3 or xbox but they kept it the same like they didnt change ANYTHING!
Hello, im a huge fan of silent hill and started my own horror series influenced by SH, please check it out its called The False Awakening and the second Season is about to begin so this would be the ideal time to get interested :)
thumbs up if you played this when you were a kid and it took you ages to complete coz you were doing everything really slow and getting scared loads then came back to it in later life and pwned it and then understood the story line :P
@randomblahjoeypie I remember the first time I ever played Silent Hill 2, I played it when I was 11 so shortly after it came out and all I got out of it was that James murdered his wife. That was about all, now I play that game every so often just because I now understand how deep the story is.
Eh, this game shouldn't be touched. The graphics are fine. We all see what happens when Silent Hill gets an upgrade with graphics, it basically goes down the hill. So, no, I don't agree with the fact that thisgame needs updated visuals. It is fine the way it is.
Silent Hill was made to fuck with your mind... I love games like that... they don't make 'em like that anymore, that's the truth ._. If you like Silent Hill, you'd really like games like Eternal Darkness, Project Zero/Fatal Frame, the origianal Resident Evil series (not the crappy new ones that have no f*cking storyline and the same ending every time =_=), Haunting Ground (or Clock Tower) and Rule of Rose. Those are probably the best survival horror games I've ever played, but SH beets them all.
back when this came out i must have beaten this game like 100 times. my fastest time was 1hr, 33min. if you know where everthing is you can go really fast. but if you whant the best ending, you gotta get every sing thing in the game esspecially the video tape.
SH1 and SH2 the best of the best,when i was playing in SH2 by 11pm i was in psychiatric hospital and i was really scared as hell i must trun on light and get few deep breaths to calm down :] then i play again.

I've finish Silent Hill 1, 2, 3 and 4 and in my opinion this is the best Silent Hill ever. Now I gonna finish this Silent Hill again, but the SH2 Direct Cut. In this game you can play with Maria
silent hill 1 2 and 3 were made by the silent hill team, sh 4 was made by another team, also sh 5 and shattered memories, sh orginis also i think (not sure about that!) but by far the best sh are 1 2 and 3
@pajaritodelodio But i dont get why people trash origins and the others. 4s gameplay is ekkk and the story was amazing though. And Homecoming was overall decent im on origins right now and it seems great. I find 2 better then all so far but still people trash the USA team like they arent even trying.
@ZPM7 you think so? i thought SH3 was great, i mean the music is nowhere near as epic, but i thought it was a bit scarier than SH2, SH4 was odd, done differently i should say but it was awesome too, after SH4 i just about lost hope for Silent Hill, Homecoming was just resident evil 4 with silent hill slapped on it, it was never about action or curb stomps, and gore, the story and atmosphere ALWAYS take the cake in SH, so hopefully Downpour won't be a fuck over.
@JesusStrikesBack1994 3 felt watered down to me. The intelligence and symbolism were cut down to very basic ideas,, and Heather (that was her name, right?) never really got characterized, beyond 'stereotypical young/teenage girl'. 4 had no real plot to speak of, it was more like a series of Silent Hill area's lazily strung together. I can't remember the main character's name, but he was literally no one at all. He never developed any kind of personality. He was a cut-out.
@JesusStrikesBack1994 I haven't played any farther than that, though what I've heard is that pretty mucch everything else has been cash ins, though I'd include 4 as one. Silent Hill 2 is still one of my all time favorite games, and I consider it the apex of the series. It was intelligent, deeply symbolic, the characters were fleshed out and three dimensional, it was just really great all around. I wish they had stuck with what they did with sh2 when they made the other games.
@JesusStrikesBack1994 That is to say, used the town as a backdrop to tell a new story, instead of trying to tie together all the silly cult business from the first.
@ZPM7 indeed, but i always have a little bit of hope for new SH's, the only thing that has bothered me about Silent Hill Downpour so far is the music, it doesn't sound like silent hill to me, but eh maybe i'll get proved wrong

c'est quand même fou que tous les com se rejoignent à savoir que c'est le meilleur auqulel ils ont joué ... silent hill 2 est une expérience spirituelle auquelle on ne sort pas indemme on est marqué à vie, à la fin on a envie de crier tout ce qu'on a dans les trippes tout se qu'on refoule depuis des années ressort d'un coup tel un un coup de poing c'est inévitable tellement fort ca fout les boules... silent hill 2 ...

silent hill 1 2 and 3 were made by the silent hill team, sh 4 was made by another team, also sh 5 and shattered memories, sh orginis also i think (not sure about that!) but by far the best sh are 1 2 and 3

@pajaritodelodio But i dont get why people trash origins and the others. 4s gameplay is ekkk and the story was amazing though. And Homecoming was overall decent im on origins right now and it seems great. I find 2 better then all so far but still people trash the USA team like they arent even trying.

@ZPM7 you think so? i thought SH3 was great, i mean the music is nowhere near as epic, but i thought it was a bit scarier than SH2, SH4 was odd, done differently i should say but it was awesome too, after SH4 i just about lost hope for Silent Hill, Homecoming was just resident evil 4 with silent hill slapped on it, it was never about action or curb stomps, and gore, the story and atmosphere ALWAYS take the cake in SH, so hopefully Downpour won't be a fuck over.

@JesusStrikesBack1994 3 felt watered down to me. The intelligence and symbolism were cut down to very basic ideas,, and Heather (that was her name, right?) never really got characterized, beyond 'stereotypical young/teenage girl'. 4 had no real plot to speak of, it was more like a series of Silent Hill area's lazily strung together. I can't remember the main character's name, but he was literally no one at all. He never developed any kind of personality. He was a cut-out.

@JesusStrikesBack1994 I haven't played any farther than that, though what I've heard is that pretty mucch everything else has been cash ins, though I'd include 4 as one. Silent Hill 2 is still one of my all time favorite games, and I consider it the apex of the series. It was intelligent, deeply symbolic, the characters were fleshed out and three dimensional, it was just really great all around. I wish they had stuck with what they did with sh2 when they made the other games.

@ZPM7 indeed, but i always have a little bit of hope for new SH's, the only thing that has bothered me about Silent Hill Downpour so far is the music, it doesn't sound like silent hill to me, but eh maybe i'll get proved wrong
