A little country like Israel DID need the draft, but now that it grew so much and now that defense is now more about technology than men with rifles, the draft may be less necessary.

Actually with limited soldiers with the all volunteer military, soldiers are treated better and are not as expendable. With a draft the soldiers have less rights and with a limitless supply of soldiers, the soldiers become expendable.

Drafting young people is not right either. If the military wanted the best soldiers, they would draft 30 year olds. Men & women physically peak in their 30's and are more mature. I'm not saying that 18 year olds are not mature, but the vast majority are not yet.

Kids after a certain age can drop out of school, can be home schooled, can get a GED, etc. Schools serve a basic need of education.

Taxes are used to pay for defense, roads, etc that are needed in a society.

The military draft/national service is used by the state to enslave the people. An all volunteer military proves effective and works. People drafted in the military do not work. Don't use WW2 as an example because most would have volunteered if not drafted.

I am an Israeli conscience objector. I refused to join the IDF because I believe in non-violence and internationalism.
