  • Lots to appreciate here - I love that crackin' snare nailing down the tempo.

  • I am soooo sick of this song!!! But i love R.E.M, wonder if they got sick of this also?

  • peter buck is starting to morph into jimmy page in looks & he is of a similar great talent as well

  • Jesus...

How can the camera have missed 8:47 completely?

  • Does anyone remember when R.E.M. was on The Today Show before this, singing the same song...Losing My Religion? Thanks :)

  • Attractive...in all the ways!

Plus I like how he dresses himself, so elegant!

  • i LoVe!!!

  • BEST BAND EVER

  • R.E.M is da best band ever

  • I don't mind seeing them on NBC. If it was FOX News, though...

  • somehow, I can't see REM agreeing to play on FOX News...

  • OMG I love these 3 guys!!

  • they rock an low profile gigs are more there scene deliverin there message to those can make difference big up to them if i made it big id still be happy doin my local

  • oh an if center of newyork is the local id be screwed from the start

  • ¡Genial! ;)

  • hey whatever...theyre still making music and touring all over the world - who cares where they perform even if it is the today show cuz theyre still fuckin awesome

  • This band are great so shut the F*** up when u say "What are they doing on the today show?" They are still better than you . . . are you a world reconisable artist with numerous awards and three houses? NO (If you are i apoligise!) and untill you are you can't critise so shut up/

  • hey they still are making good music and touring strong - and so what if they perform on morning tv theyre still fuckin awesome

  • i think in this time hes sang this with weeping in his eyes( sory for my bad english)

  • That's because he realizes he's on the Today Show, and he's thinking "My God, has it really come to this?"

  • why? is the "Today show" something wrong?

  • I like his voice a lot. It`s not what I would consider your typical 'singers' voice. More like just how the guy would talk.

  • In all caps (except I can't because of Youtube) -- It doesn't freaking matter if they invented Indie/BritPop/Pile of Crap or w/e. All that matters is that they pwn. Stop arguing and post comments like "Please have another concert," or "Continue making great music," or SOMETHING!

  • IF MATT LAUER SAYS THEY ARE THE FOUNDERS OF INDI ROCK THEN THEY ARE....i GUESS I BIPPED YOU!

  • haha what ever lad

  • I LOVE REM andmy ittewl dreams

  • they're not the founders of indie rock.. indie rock was first called britpop and it started in england, and they're not british, plus the founders of britpop/indie are Oasis, Blur, Pulp, The Smiths, Joy Division .. however this band is truly amazing my respects to them! cheers

  • R.E.M. was formed in the early '80s, a decade ahead of most of the fine bands you mention. They ARE the founders of "indie rock." But you're right, they are not British!

  • quit making up mixed genres... britpop/indie? that makes no sense.. indie is not supposed to be "popular"

  • hahaha, indie is supposed to not be labeled not unpopular.. indie = independent... it's makes no sense what you're saying, so because you have an indie/unlabeled band you won't want to be known and succeed. i'm making up genres. britpop was a movement that rised in england againsn't Grunge bands that were getting into UK, and they were unlabeled so it was a british movement, pop for using old guitar sounds for melodies, and indie for not having a label.

  • ...Oasis was formed in 1991 and Blur in 1989 so you're off base with those two. Joy Division was formed in 1976 but they were part of the post punk movement, nothing close to britpop. The Smiths arrived in 1982 and Pulp in 1978 although no one gave a rats ass about Pulp until the early 90's. R.E.M. got together in 1980. Since we're in the colonies and this show is based here I'm sure the reference is intended for American "indie/alternative" bands. That's my two cents...

  • genre's are too vague to define when where and how they started. nice try though

  • i dont think they can believe they are doing this... i feel sorry for them, they aer far better than this!

  • stipes voice sound deeper there, he probably had a few ciggies the night before!:L:L

  • ♥♥♥♥

  • Every member of the band is thinking...what the fuck time is it????

  • Comment removed

  • I'm sure they don't care just as much as I do, if not more.

  • Sorry.. I was a bit cranky the other day.

  • I thank the heavens I went to UGA

  • Watching this on TV the other day is how I heard about REM

  • his voice probably hadn't warmed up yet, as they probably arrived at NBC around 5 am and performed at like 8:45 in the morning...

  • Has Stipe gained a little weight?

  • His voice hasnt changed at all. I just saw them live on November 16, 2008 and I can ensure you guys that his voice was the same. I don't know what happened with Michael Stipe in this performance for NBC

  • And here they are singing their big hit single "Losing My Religion".

Which is basically about the lengths they are going through at this very moment as captured by our ultra-modern technology.

"I think I thought you try"

    that was just a dream

  • fab

  • Better than anything you could achieve in your entire life though.

  • Go waste your life away on some retarded computer game if your going to call one of the greatest bands ever "shit" . You don't deserve to even be respected in public for that.

  • Is that Ann Curry blissing out to the mandolin line at 4:22 to 4:24? So what if Al Roker isn't into it! ;-)

  • so what if he's old, he's been around for a long time and been making quality music that it seems to defy age......

Every body ages and that's including u, bonehead !! What's important is that age didn't wash away his talent period.

  • hey just because hes a fag doenst mean hes a bad person or singer. freddie murcury was the biggest cock lover on the planet but he as the best band singer that ever lived!

  • Who cares if his voice changes because he is old? its still a classic regardless and if his voice pitch does change over the years, im sure he will work with it to still jazz up the song to its immortal "kick-ass" state.

  • wot a fool u sound. stipes voice hasnt changes a bit since 1980. Engadge brain befor posting such dross next time.

  • a little bit funky version...i think

  • I saw them live when they came to Vancouver. Losing my religion sounded great. Awesome Concert

  • Thank you SOOOO much for posting this!!!

  • Michael Stipe must be sick of singing this song.

  • but still, the song is one of the best songs ever written!

  • he hates this song, its their smells like teen spirit

  • this is his fav to play checkeredshoes

  • Whooooooo! Shake it Meredeth!

  • the guy from 1:04-1:08 looks creepy

  • totally! hahaha

  • Al Roker doesnt seem to be enjoying this at all...

  • Great memories!! We were there that morning. Came across them by accident, we just followed the sound echoing off the buildings!!!!

It was a dull damp Tues morn but the music and sound was electric!!
