uhmm.....what if there is no sun?how did u guys regulate the power?did u guys use fuel to kick start the engine and solar power to keep it steady? did it ever land? lol
oh man if this really works its gonna be amazing, no doubt we can make it to the moon with no problems, even to mars if they can just figure it out how to store the energy.
@cool2t Well, an electric engine does not need to be kick started, solar power is not steady at all so you need to rely on batteries for power management. If there is no sun there are two options: 1 you fly over the clouds, 2 it means it is night and you did some miscalculations with your route and flying schedule.
If it works... it's not that amazing at all: it needs an incredibly light structure fore an extreme wing surface (for the panels). In other words, it has no real usefulness.

great! I wonder why this plane can fly in such slow speed.
Solar plane should use battery as additional power at taking off.
When it flies high above cloud, enough sunshine will come to the solar cells.

that plane must be real light cause those 4 propellers dont seam to be giving in much thrust

I would love to ride in a quiet and graceful plane like this.
When the first airplanes took off, could they have imagined how fast planes would evolve?
Could they have imagined then, what planes look like today and how frequently we use them?
After your flight today, it will be even more interesting to wonder what changes will occur in our near future.

Nice video. By the way: the engine sound at 1:12 comes from a car and not from the solar airplane of course. ;-)
