@thatfruitarianchick Joke is, I avoid eating too much meat/fish... but I'm not trolling, I just feel the "Fish and the environment" is a completely different issue to "Fish for health". Is it not?
Otherwise we may as well say bananas are worse for us than potatoes (in the UK where I live) because bananas have to be shipped in and potatoes can be grown locally! :)
Thanks for the video. I always thought it was cruel to hook an animal in the mouth, but didn't do anything about it. Now my ethics have evolved further and I do my best not to harm our animal friends.
@LloydChristmas777 thanks, I am really coming from an ecological perspective. I am a biology systems major, and I can not express enough to people how dire and bad this situation really is. I would do more videos if I weren't in school and working my @ss off. I should have more after christmas break...check back in :)
@hoppimike Get something better to do than troll on videos like this... if you seariously are just going to clog your ears and ignore the facts about how animal products effect everything negatively, then keep your ignorance to yourself.
Additionally, it's not MY fault we drained the oceans. I know that sounds bad but what I'm saying is when mankind was a smaller presence on Earth, fish would have been an important food source as we often lived near the sea (for that very reason) and fished with spears and later nets and rods. We relied on the ocean for our food. The problem now is OVERPOPULATION AND MANAGEMENT OF THE OCEANS, not the fact that human beings like to consume fish as it's a part of our evolution.
@hoppimike I agree, we used all sorts of food to survive and proliferate. At this point in our existence it is time we evolved again or we will not survive as a species. We are not and that is this issue. Every major science organization is predicting major ecosystem collapses beyond repair by 2050 based on our current fisheries and livestock usage. If you have eaten fish in your life and participated in the fisheries that exist now-it is indeed your fault for choosing to support it.
@hoppinmike, This is the problem-ignorance. That is just the tip of the iceberg too. They are not totally different things. Humans capacity to exist is dependent on their capability to not destroy the environment they live in. You can awaken now. I have plenty of scientific studies for you to read if you would like to educate yourself. Thanks and good luck.
@hoppinmike, perhaps you should learn more about the ecosystem before you so boldly claim that fish stocks do no affect your health. I will put it as simply as I can, if you harvest all of the fish out of the ocean you upset major ecosystems. The ocean is in the process of dying because of this. If the ocean dies, humans will soon follow. It is that simple. The ocean is 70% of our planet and responsible for the majority of our oxygenation and weather systems-amongst other things.
@victorbigdipper Yeah, but this video was supposed to be about whether the CONSUMPTION OF FISH was good or bad for the health of the human body. That is a completely separate issue to whether the stocks of fish are depleting in the oceans.
The reason you may be scared to tackle the former point is that fish is quite good for you xD
@hoppimike I am not scared to talk about it all. You seemed to have missed my point. Your health is no longer just an issue of personal choice as to whether you get some omega-3s or not. We are dealing with a global fisheries crisis. It should not even be an option until the oceans have recovered. Check out the center for disease controls warnings about how often you should eat fish and which types. It is one of the most contaminated food sources humans consume.
@hoppimike based by the rampant consumption of fish and the ongoing media touting of it as health food, despite the serious conditions would show otherwise. I am glad that you know this however. I will do a video soon on the state of river and lake fish...check back in for some more good info
@hoppimike who is you guys? it is just me here, and that is my point entirely, the two are not separable. If you are interested in further information, I recommend the "human impact reader" put out by Oxford University, edited by Andrew Goudie. The earth's biosphere is one total organism. The reason why I called the video as I did is that there are people who only look at their particular health. The health of the greater whole is of much greater importance. Thanks for your response....
I can see we are not going to see eye to eye on this!
Whether a food is beneficial for the human body is a completely different concept to whether it is ethical to consume, or whether it's consumption is good for the environment.
Ok... this might be interesting! I'm going to give you a hypothetical. Let's imagine that fish stocks are fine, that the planet can easily handle our fishing. Let us imagine fish have no souls and feel no pain. Are fish good for us now?
@hoppimike If you think we are not going to see eye to eye, then why are you wasting time on this? I really do not have time for "what ifs." Sorry, I am expending my energy on what is. My entire point is that there is a much bigger picture to look at here beyond health or even ethics, and we need to open up our reductionist and myopic thinking. Thus the ironic title. Best wishes Mike.
@hoppimike I can see by other forums that you are on that you state that you eat fish occasionally but identify yourself an ethical vegan or vegetarian?? I can understand you stance better now. Thanks, Victor
In some small way awaken the idea in people's heads that it has nothing to do with how an animal is treated(of course it does but for sake of argument) this has to do with our very survival. Most people are so self-centered that I believe this is the only thing that will turn the light on. Scientist predict based on current use of livestock and oceanic ruin, we will begin to see complete ecosystem collapses no later than 2050. That is very soon, so why are the governments doing nothing??
Thanks Yanco & Shrila, I am a biology conservation student, and I can tell you first hand that we have NO IDEA how bad the situation really is. If we collapse the ocean ecosystem, we are dead. What people are not understanding, and our governments are acting WAY too slow on this is that we when we kill species and make the earth sick and out of balance; we are killing ourselves because we are but a small part of a large organism. We are like cells in a being. I am trying to in some small way tbc
@victorbigdipper I guess the rich are eating well & eating lots of sea food :-/ But this is all so sad, the world seems to be under attack from every angle, when is all this going to stop? We all need to do what we can to change things. Stop the money system and corporate greed and we would have won have the battle, just my thoughts and thank you for bringing this to our awareness. Everyone Please meditate or pray at the least on world change for the better.
Also, fish isn't a super-food: 1) it's not FOOD(to us primates) 2) Omega 3 is only beneficial IF you get too much omega 6. But why eat MORE fat to balance it out. The healthier solution is to eat LESS omega 6, less animals, more fruit, more veg, win, win, win.
2)Plants like fruit are the original food, and best food. The fruit-based diet "80/10/10" has proven itself as the most health-enhancing diet.
That makes me more than sad, all these .ucking and stupid humans, who are proud, to have caught a big fish, and all humans who dont get a fuck of animals... Man, I could cry cry and again cry.... I will hope, that 2012 is the end of money, and that all will change... I do hope from my whole heart...... Look and hear for this Drunvalo Melchizedek 2012 german 1/4, it is in english with german subtitle, and it has 4 parts....
extremely.....we are a world in deep deep trouble. It is not in a nebulous a hundred or fifty years...it is now. I feel driven to do whatever it takes to get my science degree and do work in the field.
thank you everyone, Mark me too i feel like I "have seen the light" and know I am on the right path in the sciences to do my part...less science and more clean up, but that is the direction. How have you been? I have been meaning to say hi...
I am glad to hear that Ben. I use to send salmon home to my mom and grandma back in the day. Never again. I had no idea how critical the situation is until I started school. It is beyond what people think. It is much worse. I could only put in a fraction in 15 mins. You tube just opened me up to longer vids after I posted this one...lol...
