Not sure exactly what you mean by the 2nd sentence, but it sounds like it may be a preamplifier problem (ie not the Dual). What input are you using on the amp?
I have a Dual 505 not sure of the model, but I have audio issues. I have a new needle on it but i need to turn the volume almost to max to hear anything. Are the RCA red and white cables shot at the connection to the unit or the tips that plug into a receiver?
does it have pre-amp ?

Make sure you have an input labelled 'phono' - if you dont that would explain the "tiny'' sound problem.

@Douverwynn Have you got it plugged into a Phono input on the amp ( as it needs the boost that gives rather than a standard auxiliary or the like)?

@jkennan I'll try the phono plug. I seem to recall I tried that too but I can't remember
