Very nicely done. As many others here it reminded me of the same era and the same TV programmes the first time I heard this track. Thanks for uploading.
When I heard this album after a few attempts, i realised the transistion between these two songs is fantatstic and that one really only works with the other. So I was hoping someone would put them up on Youtube together. Luckily you have fufilled my wish, and gone the extra mile with a great video to go with it. Thank You.
In my opinion one of the best videos on youtube.I have this album by Boards of Canada, and I must confess I only really listen to these two tracks.Bocuma and Roygbiv flow very well together. The music (for me) really captures the feel of some old PBS nature/educational program, especially in the first half. You put together an interesting collage of images that compliments the music amazingly. I can't get enough of this one.Thank you.
aaaah like minded people... good vibes all round. Its true, the feeling this track gives you... I fear it may ACTUALLY physically take me back in time to me first school if i listen to it too much :) Great vid dude!
I don't think BOC sampled music from those NFBOC films. I think they used vintage synths or vintage synth effects to capture the flavour of sounds from that period. If I'm wrong about this let me know
I was born in 88 so I never was really exposed to those old nature videos in their prime. But after Boards of Canada i will never look at them the same way. Especially the music...
The nostalgia that this track conjures is just so overwhelming. I believe Boards of Canada took their title from the Canadian film company responsible for those nature films that used to run in the UK on Saturday afternoons in the 70's. I remember they featured loads of dreamy red sunsets & one of those boats with a huge fan on the back to explore reedy lakes. No other track I know evokes such a strong connection with good times past.
Boards of Canada outdid themselves with this song. They are now their own Nemesis! Can they outdo themselves and their own virtuosity in crafting a song better then this????
All my respect, because this song just bypasses any sense organ and just goes right to your heart!
ofcourse the inclusion of bocuma as the intro elevates this piece & provides context which has been captured perfectly with the countdown clock
it is possible however that some synthesis of the two - cherry-picking the best of the other - would provide the ultimate visual accolade in every way worthy of one of bocs greatest musical mind-trips
there is a similar video of roygbiv that employs advertising footage of mid-1980's vintage that - whilst highly creditable must be deemed the less satisfactory version of this remarkable musical work of such tantalisingly fleeting brevity & inspired perfection as it doesnt achieves quite so successfully the poignant effect of transporting us back through a portal in the minds eye to that younger , brighter & better televisual world of a future that is now behind us
It surely is one of the strangest and mesmerising tune's I've ever heard and the visuals are spot on. I wonder where the hell BoC get their samples from?!
aahh! i immediately thought the same thing! i always wanted to hear more music like that. i didnt realize it until this BOC album, and it filled the cravings id had since elementary school, watching all those old educational tapes.
I like so much the association of Bocuma and the BBC clock of the late seventies. I feel it as a perfect metaphor of nostalgia and time passing. Yet, I'm French...
Phil90125,you're a genius..thanks so much, absolutely love BoC and totally agree with what you've done here..had a flashback of most of them especially Picture Box and Scene...I've a warm feeling in my belly now!!
Many of these comments are spot on: I mean in terms of these old BBC vignettes washing you over in a strange wave of nostalgia. We once had similar clips issued here in Canada: by none other than the National Film BOARD OF CANADA. I'm sure this great duo knew what it was doing in choosing its name.
Type in "Canada Vignettes - Delta Plane" for an idea of what I'm talking about.
Fantastic, this is exactly what i thought of when I first heard that track! I think BoC deliberately went for the whole 'schools tv' sound on the first album in order to evoke memories of childhood (at least for kids of the 80's like me!)
I find it amazing how an album can make you think of musty-smelling classrooms, messing about on swings, drinking dodgy-tasting milk out of little cartons..
totally. remeber the freaky music during near & far? star wars: return of the jedi sticker album, transformers, 4 tv channels, tim and tobias books, long summers that lasted ages, ewoks, dogtanian, phillip schofield in the broomcupboard, sinclair spectrum, 20p a credit in the arcades, peep-peep and the boy who fell to earth...
This is really special. I dont know why, but whenever I hear this song, it always reminded me of something like this - you pulled this straight out of my dreams. Brilliant.
I can confirm that I pulled these clips from old BBC and ITV schools programmes from You Tube. Looking at it now I see how the timing is all off and how some of the clips hang around too long. But hell as a second attempt at this thing I still like it, although I can't rule out a "Special Edition Directors Cut" at some point.

Seamless intergration of the visual quality of each clip (if you found all these videos on youtube much applaudes for making this) Only negative opinion i have is that BOC's music, which is so effortlessly timeless and beautiful seems to loose some of its potency when anything remotely policical is used in conjuntion with it.
