i cant wait to see my friend's quartet perform this. The emotion that is conveyed through this peice is phenomenal and astounds me every time i here it. this is the pinnacle of quartet playing.
Their intonation is superb and the committment each player gives to every single note is amazing.
You can really hear the Bartok influence on this. If you didn't tell me this was Ligeti I would have never guessed that. Amazing piece and a beautiful performance!
Amazing recording of this amazing Ligeti 's String quartet! I already know it for many, but it always makes me emotional and shivery - it is like a force of nature one can't stop!
??? Well in defense of Ligeti, at least there are coherent motivic lines which are somewhat manageable to follow. You hear chords reinforced although they are highly dissonant
As I always say: If you like obvious arts like Michelangelo and Boticelli you'll prefer Bach or Mozart. But if you like comtemporary art like Duchamp, you'll prefer Ligeti or Varèse.
Maybe so, but it's condescending and wholly inaccurate. It also betrays a less than profound appreciation of culture. Ligeti was very respectful of his antecedents and disregarded the totemic approach others (Boulez?) took in judging music and other media. Also, Duchamp is hardly contemporary!

Gyorgy Ligeti, not Gyorgi.
He's Hungarian, not half-Russian/half-Hungarian

Is this Allegro grazioso - Vivace, capriccioso - A tempo?
Is it called the first movement?

The beginning makes me think of Ligeti. But yeah, Bartok is definitely in there somewhere!
The group's intonation was impeccable - which is saying a lot considering Ligeti's harmonic vocabulary. And their theatricality was great too!

Really one of ligeti's early works but you just got to love the gritty sound he gets from the quartet...and BTW an excellent performance

That is so utterly untrue. I am awed by Michelangelo and yet I love Ligeti. I adore Mozart and yet I love Kandinsky.

Yeah, I know, I like Mozart too.. It was just generally speaking...

Ok, Ok! My comment was unfortunated! It was just almost a joke... I don't really think that way.
Geez... People take life too serious....
