Sears Tower elevator ride (to 103rd, non-stop)

The ride was slow, probably because it's too windy. To prevent the cables from snagging on each other on a windy day, most elevators have a controller that will reduce the top speed of the elevator. This is true for that tower in Dubai.

Not so for the Skylon Tower (Ontario, CN). I've been there when it was calm, and windy. Same speed. The counterweight and cables are behind a shield, so the wind doesn't get to them. The ride isn't very smooth when its windy.

You Can See How They Slowed Them Down. They Used To Do 2000 FPM, But Someones Ear Drum Popped, So It's Limited To 1100 FPM, And The Ride Went From 60 Seconds To 2 Minutes.

the elevators usually travel at 18mph and takes 60 seconds to get up there. the elevator was probably at half speed because of the winds. so it takes ABOUT 90 seconds to get from top to bottom or bottom to top

Half speed because of the winds? When I went up in that tower back in 1990, they would not even let us go past the 60th floor because of winds. It seems that they wouldn't be making that trip at all. That did seem a bit slow. I would think the ending of that cartoon would coincide with the arriving at the 103rd floor.

It depends on how tall the building is. If it's 10 floors, then yeah it's pretty fast, but if it's 103 floors, in my opinion it's kinda slow.

i was in the tower in 99 and 00 and there was no video, and then i went last week and those stupid birds popped up, and this video was slow too, cuz it doesnt take that long to get to the 103rd floor

Out video was over on the 70th floor...... Then it started over for just a second then they turned it off....They closed the tower just after we went down. The winds were very strong that day as we could feal the tower moving........ I thought it was fun but there was a old lady complaining to the security lady that this is dangerous...Oh well....

They play trance music in the elevator and have an LCD display of the builing with a dot that shows you going up or down. They have fiberoptic lighting that is like heaven and all the lights are turned off (Except for a few dim blue lights).

That is actaully slow. 1,600 feet/minute equals 18 mph. The fastest elevator is in the Taipei 101 in Taiwan at 3,300 feet/minute or 37.5 mph. They go from the 5 to the 89 floor (observatory) in just 37 seconds. The Taipei 101 observation deck is about 100 feet lower than the Sears Tower observation deck though. But the Taipei 101 is actaully taller than the Sears Tower. Watch a video of the Taipei 101 elevator and you will see how cool it is!

Is this elevator slow or what? The elevator is usually at the 103rd floor by the time the cartoon video is finished but in this elevator, the elevator is only at around floor 60 when the cartoon finishes.

Yes, I remember that when I was at the Sears Tower in February 2000, the cartoon was over when we were in 99th floor (yes, the 99th floor, the 103th floor was closed that day). I was surprised to see that in this video, the cartoon was over at floor 60 while in other Sears Tower elevator videos I see that the cartoon is over when the elevator gets to 103rd floor.

What the this elevator is sooo slow like go to Eureka tower Australia and it is faster and that building is a smidge smaller.
