My 05' RSX owns 2.4L 2010 Avengers with a K20A3. It's called a balanced vehicle.

  • @weatherman001 I've never had my car Dynoe'd, but check out my newest RSX movie, I can hit 0-60 in 5.7 seconds, and that is just with I/E/H/and a Reflash. If I had to guess, I'm only making around 160 hp at 4700 RPM's so it's not much to cry home about, but it's a fun little car to drive back and forth to work on a daily basis.

Honda engineers put vtec at 5800 rpms for a reason, I was worried about doing it for awhile cause my dad blah blah blah... but unlike american cars it can stand these rpms without mechanical failure. I wouldn't do it all the time and beat the piss out of it. Just wait till the car is at normal operating temp and use synthetic oil.

  • Well if you have a Vtec you're losing because Vtec only kicks in at 4500 rpm but if not you should bring your engine to just a fraction under redline anyway because you're still sitting in horse power and sometimes torque up in higher revs

  • I didn't think that this video would get so many views when I put it out there, plus I did it for my friend Chance who lives in N. Carolina, he wants an RSX really bad, but he's only 18 and no cash ;-)

    My next video is going to be more movie based it's almost done, maybe one more week or so and I will get it out there. I added some mods to the car since then though, I added CAI, Exhaust, Header. So you will see a before and after with minimal mods.

  • rsx are not that expensive any more. you can find a decent one for around 8-9k in my area. and i am talking about rsx-s.

  • He obviously didn't red line it, but still quick for a 4 cylinder! I would have liked to have seen him red line it through those two gears!

  • He has the Base RSX manual, the Base verson has a completely different type of vtec, it only has vtec for the exhaust profile instead of the Type-S which has vtec "i-vtec" for the intake and ehaust. Which is why you feel the extra "pull" when you hit the vtec engagement points at certain rpm points in the Type-S and not in the Base.

  • Having the base brings up certain problems, but most of which you miss out on since you have the manual. I used to own a automatic Base RSX before I bought a Type-S. One problem you might have is using the Short Ram. The short ram pulls air directly from the engine compartment which means it is hot. Colder air is much more dense and produces more power. What type of exhaust and headers are you runing? I used to have a Greddy Ti-C exhaust on my Base, and liked it so much I have one on my Type-S

  • I have Megan Racing Cat back exhaust system on the car right now, and Megan Racing Headers. I heard that about the short ram after I put it on my car which really pisses me off! Now I have to try to sell it than go out and buy a cold air intake for it. Any suggestions on the type of CAI to buy for it?

  • AEM makes a good CAI for the RSX. If you want to keep the SRI, AEM makes the V2 SRI, which gives nice power and you can also pick up a heat sheild for it. It is what I have in my car and I like it alot. With CAI you run the risk of hydro-locking, since he intake literally comes out of the engine bay under the car. On my car I have Greddy TiC exhuast, AEM V2, and DC sports headers w/ CAT delete. Unsure what power results, never been on dyno. I am about to send my ECU to hondata to retune.

  • is it ok to push the regular RSX like that? i have the base Celica (yes yes FAR different from an RSX & teh VTEC) but the GTS model has LIFT (same thing as VTEC) and its ok to rev high. I've seen kids with the base models throwing rods revving to just about 6-7K...

    so, point is, is it ok to rev that high on a base model w/o vtec?

  • Sure do what ever you want just dont red line it too much or going to start having problems with the motor.

  • Turbo it and your good to go. ya you should shift at 7k rpm for sure. i got a type-s and i shift at 8300 lol

  • Yeah, a turbo sounds like a great way to get gains in torque I will def. look into that. I wish I had my camera with me the other day, I had the car upto 110 on the highway and she still wanted to climb fast, I had to let off, :O LOL

  • Ya the rsx-s doesn't start making its real power until about 7400 rpms.  You have to shift deep (8200) to get the most out of the car.

  • You should shift a 7 every time but the type s motor(k20a2) has stronger pistons and rods. You should get hondata k pro and build the motor for boost.

  • take it to 7100-7200 rpm. you wont hurt the motor its made to rev. high.

  • the rev limeter is set to 6500 rpm so he cant go to 7100 unless he takes the rev limiter out
