I stumbled across this from another post (Martin Family Band) on the Arizona Irish Music board.... recognized teh Mandolin immediately. Walt and I used to be in a band together once upon a time. My thought was... I truly believe us folk musicians are all 1-step-removed from one another! LOL! Beautiful tunes on a beautiful instrument!!
Hi Emily, Great playing as always. Mary and I miss playing with you at Mt.Vernon. Dave McNew formerly of Itinerant band. Hi to Mom and Dad and the rest of your family.
@dbmcnew Hey Dave! Thanks for the message, my parents send their greetings. Yes, it definitely was fun playing, seems like a little less music at mount vernon than in the good old days lol, maybe that's my imagination. Take care! Emily
Very cool - I like this a lot. I've just gotten an octave mandolin and am wondering about your thoughts on the age-old question of pick direction when playing jigs. Do you play d-u-d, d-u-d, or d-u-d u-d-u? I've also read that some people use d-u-u, d-u-u. I would appreciate your thoughts on the matter.
@madhatful Yes...that is definitely an age old debate, personally I must admit I don't think about the pick direction at all--although for those that use DUDDUD it certainly makes sense with the timing of the jig. If you're careful to keep that 1..23 1..23 emphasis and rhythm in mind though you can get the same result with any pick direction.
what ever it is, YOU GOT IT, in spades woman....LOl.. wow, really nice.
