I have some old scales that my folks had & left me with, all sorts of stuff from way back, toastie pie makers that can be cooked on a camp stove or fire, a meat grinder the one that you fasten down & wind the handle its made of solid steel, and my dads hand saws & tools that'll last forever when maintained properly. I have all sorts of stuff that my kids say get rid of that junk, my reply is no way it'll still work when your x box, electronics die. Cheers.
Well im glad to see im not alone when it comes to feeling like a million bucks when I find a great item like the tortilla press I got for a dollar....Funny thing is I use alot of my hand powered stuff now...
Wow, you took the thoughts right out of my brain! I've adopted the same mindset as you have. I'm no longer interested in the newest gadget on the market. Most of what I purchase now is in preparation of the future. It's great to see that a lot of folks are catching on. Thanks for posting!
i completely understand your thoughts..i go in stores and i get depressed beyond words..i cant help but to look at the
CRAP being sold and think ...WHY...would anyone want this stuff? i only buy necessities now...and do not enjoy getting "stuff" meaningless worthless junk from china...doesnt make my life easier, better or less complicated...it will however make you a slave.
That was great. Thank you for putting that out there. Its good to know I,m not alone. This could cause the calapse of mega corps world wide if it caught on, an added bonus.
You are SOOO right! We must stop shopping as entertainment also, and not only because we can't afford so much senseless shopping any more. There are better ways to amuse ourselves. The term "quality of life" needs to be redifined, IMO. It used to mean, in great part, the good times we had with friends and family. Now it's become dependent (psychologically) on the amount, and type of possessions we own.
Your not crazy, I'm with you 100% I was at a canning store and almost bought a 50 dollar food processer for jelly and jam, but decided not to, right after I went over to the thrift store, lo and behold, found a manual one for $3! I wasn't even looking and it is brand new. I want to get a beehive, when I tell people that, you can imagine the looks I get. My b/f even wonders who I am and what I've done with myself, he thinks I'm nutz! He is wondering why we've got a yrs worth of food stored up.
Your boyfriend will learn to appreciate your frugal ways and your stored food when things get bad. Or better yet, dump him! There are plenty of great guys who are into the preparedness movement who'd be glad to take his place. If I were a little younger, or you were a little older, I'd volunteer myself!
Thanks Vention, your sweet, I'm kinda thinkin about it?! I mean, about making a change in my life that doesn't include the beau.. Kinda getting tired of carrying the burden for the both of us.
LOL these vids are great. . .I cant remember the last time I bought something new. Even our clothes come second hand. . and I get complements. Over the summer I was sooo excited to find boxes of canning jars at nothing prices...people dont remember how to really live. These jars are now full of peaches, tomatoes, juice and jam...that stocked not only mine but five other families. Incredible changes in my kids. they get excited now to go out and help, or for a movie night. good change for us. lol
LOL, it must have been divine intervention that I found your vid. (found ya though supa). I loved this one. You and I could be best friends. I go to several auctions a week and I understand 100% your joy over the saw and lanterns. It's about the only way I shop these days.
I recently got a battery operated radio that has fm/am/weather/emergency as well as CB channels. I paid a whole $1 for it. It's my new precious. :o)
I really enjoyed this video. I felt the same way last week when I spent $150 worth of organic seeds for next year. I felt richer than ever. Forget about stocks....buy seeds!!
HAHAHA! Thanks for posting this video it's a much needed positive outlook on the looming economic collapse. We'll be ok as long as we get rid of our existing debt though. I have caught myself looking at planting seeds in my back yard or solar electricity...renewable energy sources that we could use for ourselves...
great vid brother, i've been thinking along the same lines, i want to go live with the amish for a couple of months. they don't have juice and they seem to be doing just fine...
i'm not saying i agree with their theology cause i don't know what it is.... but i think they have it closer to HIS intent than "civilized society" has.... IMHO
people have lived for thousands of years without all this electric crap... i like it... off the grid living... quick unplug me... oh yeah i'm already mostly unplugged, still have the internet...LOL
ha! I have a saying similar to "WWJD?" - except mine is: How did the cavemen survive? I often use it when someone's trying to debate me on the issue of "want versus need".
Did You ever hear anybody ask ... What is it that "The Terrorists" really want? Like the so called "Insurgents" in Beirut. How dare them for resisting a foriegn army, that's invaded their country! They must be reading the playbook written by those dirty rotten french guys in the 40's. I hear the German army called them terrorists too.
LOL - I use this same argument whenever someone tells me the insurgents are terrorists. Were the N.Vietnamese? Were we insurgents when we conquered N.America? Nah - it's always "the other guy". When S 1959 passes, watch the new dawn of modern McCarthyism emerge. EVERYONE will be a terrorist and you may even get a food voucher for turning in your neighbor!
funny - in 1943 when income tax was instantiated, they said the same thing in reverse - if you spend your $ in the economy you're helping fascism (in reference to you should save your $ to pay your NEW quarterly income tax).
It's "funny" b/c everything is backward now. spend to fight terror. We're in debt, so let me print off some stimulus debt 'er I mean checks - go spend those too! LOL
I have been experiencing the same with my buying habits. Great motivation. Think I will go plant some extra beans today.

bought a simular saw a couple of weeks ago mines got the front handle too , people kept saying that will look nice on the wall but im using it .
you can re-sharpen the blade unlike these modern throwaway saws that saw could last a 100 years best wishes

Think I could put another handle on mine as well. People kept asking me if I was going to paint a picture on it lol.
